Bad Boss by Brooke Page (12)

“Kelsey, stop,” he sighed, following me down the stairs.

I kept my pace, not bothering to respond.

Did I have feelings for him? He was an astounding businessman in a marketing room. I admired him for many of his work qualities, and he was one of the most handsome males I had ever come across, but he was such a jerk. He freaked out over little things like coffee and parking spaces, USB ports verses google docs.

Then there was tonight, when he would genuinely smile at me. How his voice wasn’t harsh yet soothing. He knew how to please a woman, that was for sure, but I wasn’t the hit it and quit it type girl, so why did I give in to him?

Catching up to me, he put his hand on the door knob to stop me. “What is your problem?”

The accusing tone was back, and I was dealing with Mr. Asshole again.

I spun to face him head on. “I don’t just fuck people, Craft. That’s the problem. I don’t like getting used by people.”

He put his hand on his chest. “Use you? How the fuck did I use you?”

“You got me half naked up there!”

“So, you wanted me to! Are you mad I wouldn’t take my shirt off?” I pulled in my lips, not wanting to admit that was the origin was why I got upset. His head fell backward. “Jesus!” He groaned out of frustration. His eyes were blazing, and I was thankful for the post holding me upright from shriveling at his stare. “I know those creeps would eventually come up there, and they wouldn’t hoot and holler, they’d take photos and videos. Do you think you or I need that type of exposure?”

I hugged myself. A chill creeping up my spine at the thought of Craft and I naked, only a blur covering out our private zones on the front page of the paper. It would be a scandal, and one I’d never come down from, especially with how low on the totem pole I was in the marketing world. Craft would thrive from it eventually, but would get an earful from PR.

“Maybe you should get some new friends,” I whispered.

“Cody is my only friend in there. I’m only in it for the fantasy league.”

My lip stayed closed. I believed him. He wouldn’t associate directly with people who would bring him down, personally or professionally.

His jaw tensed. “Kelsey, if I wanted to use you, I’d have fucked you a long time ago. I wouldn’t bother to take pride in pleasing you, and I sure as hell wouldn’t have made you my assistant and kept you around for so long.”

A thickness formed in my throat. He was right, he had paid extra close attention to my needs. I tried to gulp it down. His words were extra personal just now, but my insecurities were beginning to play a part. “What about now? Will I have a lay-off notice letter on my desk Monday morning?”

The tenseness in his face didn’t relax. “Will I have a formal complaint written on my desk about my behavior?”

I sighed. “It takes two to tango. I’d be just as guilty of sexual harassment.”

His jaw relaxed along with the crinkles of his eyes. “I like to tango.”

A soft laughed escaped my mouth. I should have been mad at that comment, but for whatever odd reason, I thought I might erupt with giggles. This whole day had been outrageous.

“Besides, I’m sure you have a ton of sexual harassment complaints hidden somewhere,” I muttered, recalling all of the freshly fucked women who have left his office.

He furrowed his brows at me. “Why would you say that?”

“Because you fuck your interns as much as Hugh Heffner fucks his models.”

He clenched his jaw. “That’s quite judgmental of you to say.”

I raised a brow at him.

He bit his cheek and sighed. “I’m not saying I haven’t, but the numbers aren’t as high as you think they are. Women talk too, you know.”

“Not like men,” I muttered.

His lip quirked upward on one side. “No? So you wouldn’t be offended if a man denied you, but hit on your co-worker?”

“I’d have quit at life if I had that attitude.”

He held in a laugh. “Why do you think I kept you for myself?”

My insides warmed, but I shrugged as if I weren’t affected by his compliment.

“Odd, but most of these interns think they can sleep their way to the top. If one says they gave me a blow job in my office, the other thinks they need to, at least they think that will get them somewhere.”

I shook my head in disbelief, yet knew he was on point. The interns always tried to one up each other, especially with their relationships with Mr. Craft. “That’s disturbing.”

His eyes twinkled. “What? That they’d make up slut stories or that they’d give me a blow job in my office?”

I flushed, remembering the reality of what we’d done on both his desk and conference table. “Both.”

“Well, in case you were wondering, all slut stories are mostly false, along with me receiving a blow job, although, that is a fantasy of mine.”

“Slut stories?” I teased.

He smirked. “No, getting a blow job at my desk.”

“Well, it sounds like you’ve got a lineup of willing prospects.”

He studied my face, a calmness washing over me as he gazed. I thought he was going to touch my cheek, but he only caged me in, resting his hand on the pole I was leaned into. “I’m picky about who I let suck my cock.”

I shook my head and laughed. “You’re such a pig.”

We both laughed until the tenseness between us eased.

He licked his lips, never faulting eye-contact. It was hard not getting caught up in them. “You never answered my question.”

“Which one would that be?”

He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “Both. Your fantasy… and if you care about me.”

Taking a deep breath, I gave him a smile, then covered his hand that was holding the door handle. “I think it’s our turn to pick someone for your fantasy team.”

He frowned at my dodging his question. He didn’t need to know yet, especially when I didn’t know the answers.
