Bad Boss by Brooke Page (13)

“Choose already,” Scooter whined.

The sun was on the horizon, and it was our final turn. I’d slammed three Red Bulls throughout the night and was wired. After coming down from the rooftop, Craft and I had switched places a few times throughout the night, but now we were both sharing the chair. Sitting on his lap, I was hunched over, staring at the list of utility players. “How about, Wyatt Clampson?”

Craft pierced his lips and nodded. I smiled, then told Cody to write it down.

“Congrats, Mack Daddy, you officially have the worst fantasy baseball team in the history of our league,” Sean teased.

“You’ll regret that.”  So I was a bit over confident in something I knew nothing about, but if I’d learned anything while working for Craft, confidence was key to success.

I stretched and tossed the booklet on the floor, giggling at the silly nickname Sean called him. By how Craft’s eyes found the ceiling and his jaw clenched every time he called him that, I could tell he wasn’t a fan of the name either.

Craft laughed at Sean. “We’ll see what happens.”

As I wiggled from side to side, he ran the palm of his hand up and down my spine. I closed my eyes, loving the perfect amount of pressure he applied.

He’d kept his touching friendly, nothing more than simple caresses to my legs and thighs when he was sitting on the floor. I was fine with it. I had exploded with lust enough at the mercy of his hands for the night.

Around three, he took off my chucks and massaged my feet. Normally I hated when my feet were touched, but something about seeing Craft massaging them made me smile. Not only because he was amazing at it, but because I felt a sense of power having the leader of a multi-million dollar company focusing intently on my feet. He must have felt confident in my mood toward him after the rooftop. It was childish of me getting upset over him denying me for my own good.

“I should get home,” I yawned. His hand wandered, his thumb pressing into my shoulder blade. “God, that feels so good.”

“Let’s go back to my place,” he whispered so only I could hear. “I’ll give you a good rub down.” He winked and I glared at him.

Ignoring the playboy comment, I nodded my head. If he could give me full attention with his hands, my weekend would be made.

“I’m going to go to the restroom first.”

He had dark circles under his eyes, but the blue still sparkled when he looked at me and nodded. How he looked exhausted yet delicious wasn’t a quality everyone had.

I checked out my own appearance when I found the bathroom. My makeup had done a decent job staying in place throughout the night, but could use a touch up. After using the bathroom, I fluffed my hair and headed back out, only to overhear Cody talking.

“What’s with you and the girl?”

“What about her?” It was Craft. I’d recognize that no-nonsense tone from anywhere.

“You’ve never been so into a girl. You worshipped her all night. You even let her pick your least favorite pitcher. What’s she got on you?”

“Stellenos isn’t my least favorite pitcher. Garcia is.”

Cody paused. “Yeah… she picked him.”

Craft’s words were mumbled as if he covered his mouth. “Yeah, she did, didn’t she? Must have dozed off when she picked him.”

“Or you were too busy staring at her tits. Are you feeling alright? This is really weird behavior for you. Pussies never hold you by the balls.”

I heard Craft sigh. “She might file a complaint on me.”

“What? Oh, I get it, you’re trying to sweeten her up so she doesn’t make a big deal about you fucking her in your office,” Cody laughed. “When are you going to learn getting it in your office only gets you into trouble?”

“This might be the time,” Craft laughed as if it were all a big joke.

Cody snorted. “I do love how she calls you Mr. Craft. You’re such a dick with the whole ‘employees can’t be on a first name basis’ shit.”

My stomach clenched with betrayal. I thought we were having a decent time. He’d opened up throughout the night, but now, it felt like he was taking it all back. Did he lie to me about everything? Was he only trying to be close to me so I wouldn’t tell HR he seduced me in his office?

Anger took over, and I stomped passed Cody and Craft.

“Ready?” He asked sincerely.

“I’ll catch a cab,” I snarled, heading for the door.

“She might have overheard you,” Cody said under his breath.

I spun on my heel. “Yeah, I did. Don’t worry, Mackenzie, you won’t get a complaint from me, in fact, you won’t ever have to see me again.”

The few guys that were left only watched with wide eyes. Had no one ever stood up to this asshole?

Craft didn’t say anything in response. I huffed, more pissed off that he didn’t have a response. Fed up with them, I marched to the elevator, repeatedly hitting the down button. I hated that I had to stand there while they all whispered, Craft standing in the kitchen next to Cody like a fucking moron in shock. He’d never been speechless, and the one time I wanted to scream and bark at him, have him say something hurtful back, he chose to keep his mouth shut. It was easier to hate him when he was being a dick.

The elevator finally opened, and I dove inside, not bothering to look back. Once it closed, tears welled up. I actually thought there might have been more to Mackenzie Craft than the full of himself asshole who controlled his empire.
