Possession: Blue Line Book Two by Brandy Ayers (10)

Lexis

The door creaked a little as Lexis pushed it open and stepped through into Bryan’s house. Strangely, she felt like an explorer discovering new lands.

Observe the natural habitat of one Officer Bryan Coy. See the movie posters lining the living room walls? This specimen enjoys action in his movies. The threadbare brown couch and lack of throw pillows signal the man’s lack of style but need for comfort. Interesting indeed.

Lexis giggled to herself as she continued through the house. Honestly, she was a little surprised at how clean the place was. He had shoes lined up by the door, and a few dishes in the sink, but was nothing compared to how crazy her own house could get.

The walls were all a dingy white, and she suspected the Bryan had never bothered to paint them when he moved into the house. Curiosity pulled her to the second floor. Five doors lined the long hallway. Two empty small bedrooms on the right, still bigger than Ash’s room though. A bathroom that looked like it rarely got used on the left, then another bedroom set up like a gym with weights, a punching bag, and a treadmill. So that was how he kept his body so fantastically ripped.

At the end of the hall, straight ahead, was the last door. It had to be his room. Her heart raced a little as she approached the door. A thrill of excitement zapped through her as she thought about lying down in his bed and covering herself in his blankets, surrounded by his scent. Slowly, she turned the knob and opened the door.

An amused chuckle slipped out. The place was bare. Walls were painted the same old white, and a king bed sat in the middle of the room, the box spring directly on the floor. A black comforter was balled up at the foot of the bed, but at least the sheets looked fairly clean. He had no tables or nightstands next to the bed, but a stack of mystery novels sat on the floor beside the right side. Huh. She wouldn’t have pegged him for a reader. Interesting that despite his career being one involving criminals and danger, he still enjoyed the same elements in his entertainment.

The only other furniture in the room was an Ikea dresser and a flat-screen TV with some picture frames sitting on top. Lexis smiled to herself when she saw not one of the frames matched. In fact, she was willing to wager he had bought each of the frames from the dollar store. She looked at each photo in turn: a group shot of Bryan and several other officers standing in front of the station, a formal shot of the chief handing Bryan a plague and shaking his hand, a faded photo of a tired looking woman that Lexis assumed was his mother, and a few of him with a smattering of people who looked vaguely like him, most likely the siblings he had told her about.

The photos, and the house in general, made Lexis a little sad. Bryan was such a larger-than-life man, both physically and his personality. He was funny, warm, smart. But his house reflected none of that. His house told the story of a lonely man dedicated to his job. Her heart panged with the desire to turn his house into a home. Fill it with all the love he deserved.

A muffled ping drew her attention away from the photos. Her purse still hung from her shoulder, and her phone was buried at the bottom of it. She sat on the edge of Bryan’s bed and dug out the phone. A text from Bryan filled the screen as she unlocked it.

Bryan: Find the house okay?

Lexis: Yup, I’m sitting on your bed right now.

Bryan: Don’t tease me, send me a picture.

Lexis smiled and scooted back until she laid her head on his pillow. Careful to fan her hair out in a way that said sexy instead of bedhead, she snapped a selfie and sent it off to him.

Bryan: Fuuuuck. It kills me that I don’t get to be there the first time you're in my house and my bed.

Lexis: The bed smells like you. It’s making me wet.

She wasn’t exaggerating either. Turning her head, Lexis buried her nose in his pillow and inhaled deeply. Spice, testosterone, and mint. Bryan.

Bryan: Don’t tell me that. I’m working a case, so there is no way I can run home and lick your pussy clean.

Another gush of moisture spilled from her body when she read his words. She really did need to get some sleep. But being in Bryan’s bed had her entire body on edge. She needed some relief.

Lexis: Would you think I’m a bad girl if I fingered myself in your bed?

Bryan: Absolutely. But lucky for you I love bad girls. I’ll still have to spank you when I get home though.

Lexis: Mmm I’d like that. I loved the feel of your palm stinging my ass the other night. I want to feel that again.

More turned on than she could ever recall being by herself, Lexis ripped off her T-shirt and jeans, then her bra and panties. She loved being naked in his bed. Knowing he had slept there the night before.

Lexis: Do you sleep naked? Is my naked body pressed against the same sheets yours was just a few hours ago?

Bryan: Yes. Fuck I want to see you naked in my bed so badly.

Biting her lip, Lexis debated whether or not she was brave enough to send him a nude selfie. Sexting was one thing, but naked photos had a way of getting out, even when she knew Bryan would never do something like that on purpose.

Bryan: It’s okay, you don’t have to.

God, he was sweet. Mind made up, Lexis arranged herself so the camera would pick up the bottom of her mouth, lip tucked between her teeth, down to just above her nipples. The result was a hot photo that really didn’t show more than a lot of cleavage. She sent it off to Bryan. While she waited for a response, Lexis slid her hand down between her legs, idly stroking her fingers along her slit. Her breath picked up slightly, her lips parting to let the little pants through.

Her phone dinged beside her.

Bryan: Fuck, you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Are you touching yourself?

Lexis: Yes.

She sunk her fingers between her pussy lips, rubbing on either side of her clit, priming herself for the pleasure she was about to give herself, but not wanting to get there too fast. She wanted to enjoy this solo session in Bryan’s bed.

The ringing of her phone startled her enough that her hand flew out from between her legs, as if she’d been caught in the act by her parents or something. Bryan’s name lit up the screen, and a wide grin lit up Lexis’ face.

“Hello there.” She knew he’d be able to hear the lust in her voice, and it turned her on even more.

“I only have a minute, baby.” Bryan’s voice was low, not quite a whisper, but obviously trying to keep from others hearing him. “I’m in the evidence room, so I can’t do anything about the monster you’ve woken in my pants. But I need to hear you come on my bed.”

Lexis moaned, her thighs now growing slick with the liquid desire Bryan never failed to elicit from her. “What do you want me to do, Bryan?”

“Put the phone on speaker and put it next to you on the pillow.” He waited as Lexis did as he said. “Now, put one hand between your thighs, circle your entrance with one finger, but don’t put it in yet.”
She did as he asked, and her hips began to pulse involuntarily against her hand. “Bryan, I feel so empty. I wish you were here to fill me up.”

“I know, baby. That needy little cunt needs to be filled, doesn’t it? But since I can’t be there, you need to do it. Put two fingers inside your sweet pussy, Lexis. Use your other hand to massage those delicious tits that I love to suck on.” His voice was strained and tight in her ear. The knowledge that she was the cause of such obvious desperation spurred her on, and she worked her fingers in and out of her sopping wet hole.

Moans spilled out from her throat between pants. “Fuck, that feels so good, Bryan. I’m so close.”

“I know, honey, I can hear it in your voice. You’re making those noises I love when I hit just the right spot and make you cream all over my dick.” His voice grew more urgent, deepening to a silken bass. “I thought about your cunt squeezing around me so tight while I was in bed last night. I jerked my cock raw thinking about all the ways I wanted to fuck you. All the ways I wanted to love you. And I’m going to do every single one of those things to you, sweetheart. I’m going to spend my life bringing you pleasure. Even now, it might be your hand doing everything, but it’s my words, my commands driving your body. Isn’t it, Lexis?”

“Yes, Bryan, yes.” The orgasm teetered just out of her reach, all she need was one more direction from the man who had captured her mind, body, and soul, and she would spill over that cliff.

“Curl the fingers inside your pussy so they rub against that patch of nerves that makes you crazy, and press your thumb against your clit, hard, and rub it in a circle.” Lexis did as he asked, and her climax bore down on her in an instant. She screamed and thrashed, Bryan’s voice urging her on, though she couldn’t make sense of his words, only the ecstasy hearing him brought her. She clenched her thighs around her wrist and stilled her fingers, letting the sensations barreling through her ebb away until she was a puddle of exhausted goo.

“Fuck, Lexis, that was the hottest thing I’ve ever heard. I’m going to attack you tonight the minute I see you.”

Lexis laughed and took the phone off speaker, then held it to her ear. “Can you at least wait until Ashton goes to sleep?”

“I guess I’ll have to.” Bryan was silent for a moment, and Lexis’ heart began to pound in worry. Would Bryan end up resenting her son? Because of course Ashton’s presence would prevent Bryan from fucking her whenever he wanted. “Lex, I like the idea of you in my house. I like it so much it scares me a little. I don’t want you to leave it. Just knowing you’re there, waiting for me, it makes everything seem better. I don’t think I’m going to last long without asking you and Ash to move in with me. Or I’ll move in with you. I don’t care either way. So just start thinking about that, okay?”

The thought scared and comforted in her in equal measure. Their relationship was moving so fast, like a cheetah chasing down its prey. But she found she had no desire to try to escape it. She would gladly lie down and let Bryan love her as fast and as long as he wanted. “Okay.”

“Good. Go to sleep, baby. I have to go do some investigatin’.” Lexis loved that she could hear the grin in his voice. The big, intimidating redhead was an open book for her, and she got the feeling he wasn’t that way with anyone else.

“Be safe.” Lexis yawned, and her eyes drifted shut before she was even able to end the call with Bryan. She burrowed down into his heavy blankets, inhaling the scent of his shampoo on the pillow. Suddenly, the thought of living with him after only a week didn’t seem so crazy after all.

***

Slowly, the thick sleep Lexis had been enveloped in faded away, leaving her more rested and relaxed than she could ever remember. The reason for that dawned on her as she opened her eyes and realized it was the first time she had woken before her alarm in years. Normally, she was a firm believer in the snooze button, and would hit it repeatedly before accepting that she had to wake up and get out of bed. Sleep was the best. She loved it with all her heart. Only the love of her son and his education could make her get out of bed in the morning.

Rolling over in Bryan’s giant bed, Lexis reached for her phone which had somehow wound up clear on the other side and at the foot of the bed. She pressed the home button to wake it up, but the black screen stuck resolutely. Pressing the button repeatedly, her sleep-fogged brain finally accepted that the thing was dead.

“Dammit.” Lexis searched the room for a clock, and finally found the red numbers on Bryan’s cable box mocking her with the late hour. “Fuck!”

Ash would be getting out of school in twenty minutes. She needed to pick him up,  get him home to do his schoolwork, and make dinner.

“Fuck fuck fuck fuck.” Lexis leaped from the bed, and picked up her clothes as she rushed through the foreign house. Hopping and trying to get her legs back into her skinny jeans, she nearly face-planted on the floor at the bottom of the stairs. She took one final look around the house to make sure she had everything, then raced out the door to her car.

Thankfully, Bryan’s house was actually closer to Ash’s school than hers was, so she arrived just in time for the bell to ring and kids to come racing out. Lexis exited her car and came around the front, watching for the dirty blond hair of her son in the sea of kids. Once he came into view, her whole body relaxed as she took in his smiling face. School could be hard for him sometimes.

Ash was smart, so smart it dumbfounded. But kids were cruel. It was a universal truth. They sometimes teased him about his hearing aids. The aids were hard to miss, sitting behind his ears. Lexis never regretted putting Ash into a typical school with so called normal kids. But she hated that she couldn’t protect him from the teasing and bullies.

“Hey Mom! I got an A on my spelling test!” The excitement in his voice was contagious, and Lexis pumped her fist in celebration.

“Awesome, kiddo. I don’t even know how to spell some of those weather words off the top of my head.” She told the truth. Who the hell knew how to spell cumulonimbus anyway? “This calls for a celebration. How about we bake cookies tonight?”

“Yes!” Ash threw his own fist pump in for good measure. The kid loved to bake. “Can we save some cookies for Officer Coy?”

Lexis’ smile grew even bigger. “I’m sure he would love that.” He really would. Knowing that Ash had thought of him even while he wasn’t around, would make Bryan’s day; she had no doubt. “And don’t forget, he told you to call him Bryan, so no need to keep calling him Officer Coy, okay?”

“Okay.”

An idea sprouted in Lexis’ mind at Ash’s request to save cookies for Bryan. His house had been so cold and lifeless when she was there earlier. She had only taken a cursory glance around his kitchen, but could tell it was bare bones. The take-out menus taped to the fridge seemed to confirm that he wasn’t much of a cooker. Inside the fridge had only held bacon, eggs and OJ. Apparently, the guy only knew how to made breakfast.

“Hey buddy, what do say we stop at home, get some supplies, and then go surprise Bryan with dinner and cookies at his house? Thank him for making our street safer.” Even as she suggested the idea to Ash, it grew on her even more. She loved the idea of Ash sitting at the island in the middle of Bryan’s big kitchen doing homework while Lexis whipped up her special homemade, and secretly healthy, mac and cheese.

“Yeah, that sounds good,” Ash answered from the back seat.

Lexis reached down into the cup holder and grabbed her phone just as they pulled into her driveway. She’d text Bryan to let him know they would meet him at his place for a surprise after he got off work. Her chest warmed and excitement grew as she imagined his reaction to having a home cooked meal waiting for him when he got home from work. She knew from the conversations they’d shared so far that he hadn’t had much of that growing up. And if she were being honest with herself, the idea of playing house with him made her own fantasies about giving Ash the family and father he deserved come true as well.

When she powered her phone back up after being connected to the charger for the trip to the school and back home, there were already three text messages waiting for her from Bryan.

Bryan: Can’t stop hearing your moans in my ear. How long do I need to have an erection before it becomes a concern and I should call the doctor?

Lexis laughed at his silly antics, and then ignored Ash when he asked what she was laughing at. The next two texts made the giggles die in her throat though.

Bryan: Do me a favor and don’t go back to your house. There is something weird going on with the guys that bought the house next door and I want to get to the bottom of it before you guys go back.

Bryan: Lex, did you get my last text? Please answer, I’m worried.

His last text had come in just a few minutes ago. She glanced over to the house next door and saw that the driveway was empty. Obviously they weren’t home, so that was definitely a good thing. She and Ash would just run in, grab a few things, and then head over to Bryan’s house. No big deal.

Lexis: Sorry, my phone died and I just got your texts. We’re sitting in my driveway and it looks like no one is home next door. We’ll just run in real quick and then head to your place. Text you when we get there.

“Okay, little dude. I’m going to grab some stuff from the kitchen. Do me a favor and go find your tablet, a pair of PJs, and a change of clothes for tomorrow, and meet me back in the living room. We might end up sleeping at Nana’s and Pop pop’s tonight.” As much as she loved the thought of staying with Bryan while he sorted out the mystery of her new neighbors, she thought it might be too soon for Ash. Plus, there was no place for him to sleep there except the couch.

They stepped from the car and a putrid smell overwhelmed Lexis’ nose.

“Eww, what is that?” Ash’s nose wrinkled up and he stuck his tongue out in disgust.

The kid wasn’t exaggerating for once, though. The scent of rotten eggs and burning rubber permeated the air. Lexis’ stomach turned, and it made her the slightest bit dizzy. Could there be a gas leak somewhere? They didn’t have any gas going to their house, but maybe one of the neighbors did?

But then she remembered the news the other day had done a special on the new fertilizers a lot of farmers were using and how local communities had been complaining about the smell, even miles from the source.

“I think it might be manure farmers use on their fields.” She rounded the car and tried to rush Ash along into the house to escape the smell.

He looked up at her with his big green eyes watering slightly from the smell.  “Wait, isn’t manure the same thing as poop?”

“It certainly is.” She couldn’t help the smile from creeping on her face at Ash’s twisted expression of revulsion.

“Gross.”

“It sure is, but apparently poop makes plants grow faster. Who knew?” They both giggled a little at her farming trivia tidbit. “Okay, let's hurry and get what we need, so we can get away from this smell.”

Ash nodded and zoomed off to his room to pack up what he needed for a night at his grandparents’ house.

Just as quickly, Lexis grabbed her computer bag with all her work stuff and placed it by the door. Next, she went to the kitchen and pulled out the ingredients for dinner and cookies, including any pans she thought she might need. She doubted Bryan had anything she required to do her level of cooking, so by the time she was finished, half her kitchen was packed in canvas bags and ready to be hauled out to the car. Looking at all the bags, she knew she would need more than one trip out to the car.

“Hey Ash,” Lexis yelled up the stairs. “I’m going to run some of this out to the car. I’ll be right back, and I expect you to be ready and down here when I get back in.”

“Okay, Mom.” How did kids manage to convey so much annoyance in just two words?

Just as Lexis reached for the door handle, a boom like she had never heard before rocked the house. For a moment she stood stunned, wondering what the heck the sound had been. Too loud to be a car backfiring. The picture frames lining her mantel rattled and shook, even after the sound died away.

But it was closely followed by a second, even more ear piercing explosion. Glass shattered nearby, and her house shook hard enough that she wasn’t sure it would hold, and made her stumble slightly. Reason kicked in, and she ran for the stairs, needing to get to Ash and make sure he was okay.

Her foot hit the bottom step, and another boom echoed around her, throwing her body back onto the floor. Her head slammed against the tile of the entryway, and her vision blinked out for a second. She struggled to stay conscious, Ashton’s screams from upstairs making her throat constrict.

Crawling on her hands and knees, pain screamed through her body, but she ignored it and kept moving toward the sounds of her little boy’s cries. But each inch that she moved closer, the pain in her body blurred her vision more and more. The acrid scent that had annoyed them outside now stung and bit at her nostrils, and her head ached and became too heavy to hold up.

She needed to get to her son. Nothing else mattered. Through the buzzing in her brain and the pain searing her limbs, she dragged herself closer to her goal. Unable to gather the strength to hold back the vomit rising up her throat, she leaned over slightly and let it loose across the floor before continuing on to Ash’s room.

But as much as she fought against the blackness overwhelming her, she couldn’t, and it soon took her under until she could no longer move, and the world around her blinked away.
