Possession: Blue Line Book Two by Brandy Ayers (2)

Six Months Later

Lexis

Peeking out her window, Lexis couldn’t help the giant smile invading her face. Just like always, there he sat at the corner of Maple and Spruce lanes.

Officer Bryan Coy.

The man drove her to distraction, that was for sure. That body, she knew, even under the bulky police uniform, was cut like a diamond. His eyes were green and sparkled with intelligence and mirth. The lips that she imagined doing very naughty things to her body on a nightly basis. The auburn hair that she desperately wanted to bury her fingers in while he feasted on her.

At first, he had only come to enforce the traffic laws on their street a couple of times a week. But since about the second week, he’d started coming every morning before Ashton went to school. Through a little artful questioning of the local gossips, she discovered that he had been stopping in their neighborhood before his shifts started every day. And when he worked the overnight shift, he ended it with a patrol of her neighborhood.

How Lexis had held off this long without giving in to his advances, she didn’t know. She’d been using her well-stocked toy collection damn near every night, and for the first time in her life was getting bored with her buzzing buddies.

But if there was one lesson learned after the debacle with Ashton’s dumbass sperm donor, it was to make sure men worked for what they wanted. If they weren’t willing to put in the work, they weren’t worth her time. Which might explain why she hadn’t had anything other than battery operated lovers in the past six years.

God damn, she needed to get laid.

It never bothered her before that all her orgasms were self-induced. But since Bryan, it bothered her greatly. She needed a Bryan-induced orgasm more than she needed to breathe. And she knew she would give in soon. But it was so fun watching him work for it. Just a couple more days, and she’d finally cut the poor guy some slack.

Stepping out onto the front porch in her sleep shorts and tank top, Lexis made her way down to his squad car with a cup of coffee. His window rolled down while she was still ten-feet away.

“Woman, you should not be coming out here dressed like that. Are you trying to drive me crazy?” The pain and frustration in his voice were evident. She had it on good authority he had not partaken of the easy pickin’s at the Blue Line since that first conversation.

And yes, she was trying to drive him crazy.

Not stopping on her journey to his window, Lexis put a little extra oomph in her walk. She’d caught him watching her hips and ass more than once in the past six months, and wasn’t opposed to him looking his fill. Not at all.

“I just thought you might like some real coffee, instead of that gas station crap you always have. But if you’d rather I go back inside, I’m okay with that.” She stopped about a foot from his reach and feigned like she was turning back to the house.

“Now I didn’t say that; bring that hot stuff over here.” Bryan smirked at his own remark, obviously thinking his double entendre was cute. He would be right.

Lexi padded up to his car and handed him the mug full of coffee.

He took a sip, never letting his eyes leave hers, and hummed his appreciation. “This is great. Good to know you make a good cup of coffee. In case you were curious, I make a fantastic omelet. I’d be happy to demonstrate for you anytime.”

Damn, his voice made her pussy weep. Deep, and filled with so much promise for the dirty talk she loved to hear while a man was pounding inside her. Ugh, she needed to just give in to him. Lexis wasn’t exactly sure why she was still holding back; she just knew that when the time was right to let him in, she’d know it, and she still felt as if she needed something else from him. Some hint that this was more than just a challenge to get into her pants.

“Hmm, I will keep that in mind.” She started walking backwards again, needing to get her day started and wake up the kiddo. “Will you still be here when we leave for school?”

Bryan nodded his head, keeping his eyes trained on her as she retreated to unload her car from the party the night before.

Normally, Lexi liked to unpack her supplies as soon as she got home from a job, but she had been exhausted after finishing up the previous night. Working three jobs and raising her little boy was starting to wear on her. But she couldn’t leave the samples in the car during the day, or the trapped heat would do funky things to the rubber and plastic. She tugged open the trunk of her used Ford Focus and pulled out the two suitcases on wheels that contained her kit. It had cost her over four hundred dollars to get started with her business, but she had more than made up for that over the past two years.

The luggage was big and unwieldy, but not heavy. She wheeled them up the sidewalk, and was just about to lift them onto the porch, when one of the wheels went rogue and sent the suitcase careening to the grass, where it popped open.

Shit.

She knew she should have invested in new travel cases months ago, but she had thought she could stretch these a little further.

The sound of a car door slamming shut made Lexis’ head pop up, dread sinking into her stomach. Horror and embarrassment raged through her, as she saw Bryan’s tall body jogging across her lawn to help pick up her mess. No, no, no, no. He couldn’t see what had spilled out of the case. She’d never live it down.

“Don’t worry about it, Officer Coy. I can take care of this.” She tried to angle her body to block his view of the dozens of dildos and vibrators strewn across the grass.

“Don’t be silly, I want to help you in any way I can. That is my job, after all. Serving the community.” Despite hearing the humor in his voice, Lexis couldn’t find anything to laugh about in this situation.

She wasn’t ashamed of her side gig. It was fun and brought in great money. But she also didn’t go around talking about it either. His large shadow fell across her face as Bryan halted next to her, unmoving. Her heart pounded in her chest and she squeezed her eyes shut in humiliation.

Next to her, air hissed out of Bryan’s mouth. He kneeled down to the grass, and picked up a seven-inch purple dildo, the shaft covered in little balls that rotated and vibrated when the right button was pressed, and a little butterfly protruding from the base that would flutter and stimulate the clitoris. It was a best seller. And for good reason.

“Fuuuuuck.” He picked up another toy, this one smaller, meant for anal penetration, and held them both in his hands. “Um, Lexis, there something I should know?”

“This isn’t what it looks like.”

“It looks like you have a bag full of dicks that just exploded on your lawn.” Bryan was obviously making an effort to hold back the laugh that was probably begging to be let out.

“Okay, it is kinda what it looks like. But I swear I’m not some crazy nympho that needs all this stuff to get off. I put on shows. It's one of my jobs. You know, single mom and all. I have to make money where I can. And this brings in a lot of money.”

A deep growl seemed to make the air around them vibrate, and Lexis looked up, expecting to see a dog or wolf or something nearby. But no, just Bryan, looking at her like he could kill something with his bare hands. She glanced down at his fingers wrapped around the dildo to the point she thought he would snap it in half. Which he probably could.

“What kind of shows are you putting on with this stuff?” His voice held a hint of violence and danger that Lexis had never heard from him before. Bryan was usually calm and funny. Dirty, yes, but funny. But this new possessive edge made her stomach flip-flop.

And then she realized what she said to set this reaction off. Her eyes widened, and heat spread across her face. “Oh, god, no! Not that type of show.” The nervous giggle bubbled up from her throat totally unbidden. “I sell them, to women. Like perverted Pampered Chef parties. I do birthday parties, bachelorette parties; last night was a divorce party.”

Bryan’s face relaxed a little. “So you don’t… use these on yourself… for men?”

“No!” The burning in her skin let her know that her face would be bright red with embarrassment. But the more she thought about his reaction, the less funny it was, and the more pissed she got. “I can’t believe you think I would do that just to make money. You thought I was a prostitute or something. Letting guys get their rocks off while I”—she glanced around at the mess before them, picking up The Beast, a giant twelve-inch flesh toned dildo the girth of a coke can—“fuck myself with this thing on a stage for them?”

She waved the dildo around, and it flopped side to side in front of Bryan’s face. The thing was more novelty than anything else. Few women actually wanted something that ginormous inside them, unless it was attached to a man.

Bryan’s face had drained of all color, and his eyes were round as saucers and filled with regret. “I don’t know. I just heard you say you put on a show with this stuff, and the thought of any guy getting to see you like that made me want to punch something. I’m sorry. If I had thought about it for a minute, I would have realized you would never do something like that.”

Lexis grabbed the toys from his hands and shoved them back in the bag, along with the rest of her scattered wares. Despite his apology, her blood still boiled that he would think her capable of something like that. “And even if I did, it would be none of your goddamn business. You have no claim on me. A little flirting at the curb does not give you the right to get pissed, even if I am shoving fake cocks up my cunt seven nights a week for a bunch of lecherous old businessmen.” She stood, holding the stupid fucking defective bag together as best she could, while glaring down at a stunned Bryan. “You have no say over what I do with my body. Fuck off, asshole.”

She turned, ready to stomp away from stupid fucking Officer Bryan Coy and escape into her house, but she didn’t make it very far. Two thick, hard arms circled around her waist and lifted her from the ground, causing the bag to go tumbling down to the ground, once again spilling everywhere.

Now it was Lexis’ turn to growl. “Let go of me, you temperamental jerk.” She kicked and bucked, squirming against his hold on her.

“Lexis, shut up and stay still for a goddamn minute. I knew you were full of sass, but this little temper of yours surprises me.” Keeping one arm firmly around her waist, Bryan snaked the other up over her chest, cupped her face in his hand and turned it so that her cheek rested against his lips. “I want it to be my business, Lexis. I want you to be my business. I don’t want any other man touching this body, or seeing you touch yourself. I want that, you, for myself. You’re right; I have no say over what you do with your body. But I keep hoping you’ll let me do all the things I’ve been dreaming about. Just give me a chance. I can’t promise I won’t sometimes be a possessive jerk with you, because you affect me in a way no other woman has. But I swear, I’ll treat you right. Just give me a shot. Please, say yes. Go out with me.”

The fight seeped out of Lexis’ limbs, and she slumped against his chest. Maybe she had overreacted a little. And maybe she’d been stringing Bryan along for too long. The man had the power to hurt her, though, and that scared her. “Are you just trying to get in my pants? Because if that is all this—”

“It’s not. Maybe at first it was, but after talking with you, seeing you with your son, it’s more than that now.” The pleading in his voice made Lexis’ chest ache.

“I know we flirt and tease, Bryan, but please don’t do this if you don’t mean it. I can’t handle a broken heart right now.”

Bryan nuzzled his face into the curve of her neck and shoulder, giving her quick, chaste kisses along the sensitive skin there. “I mean it, Lex. You’re all I think about. Just let me prove to you that I’m a good man. That I can be your good man.” His warm breath skated over her skin as he whispered his intentions. The sincerity in his words, mixed with the scent of coffee, mint, and his soap, weakened her walls.

“Okay.” It had been six years since Ashton’s father walked out on them, the day after she got her positive pregnancy test. Six years of no dating, holding every man at bay, doing nothing but caring for her son and her parents. Lexis wanted something for herself, damn it. She wanted sexy-as-sin Officer Coy to herself. “I’ll go out with you.”

Bryan tightened his arms around her waist, and his hard length pressed between her ass cheeks. “Finally.” The curve of his smile ghosted against her skin, and Lexis’ pulse kicked up a notch.

“If you don’t mind, I need to go inside and get my son ready for school.” The last thing she wanted was for Bryan’s arms to let her go. But as much as she would love to spend the rest of the day giving in to this man in every way, she had a five-year-old to get dressed and out the door.

“I suppose I need to get to the station, too. But first I’m going to need your phone number, so I can call you later tonight to schedule a date that will knock your socks off.” He still hadn’t let her go, instead running his nose up and down the column of her neck.

“You have some stiff competition to impress me, Officer Coy.” His body went still behind her, and the slow, seductive trail of his nose against her skin halted. “My dates before Ashton consisted of dive bars and fast food joints. Since Ashton, it has been all bounce houses and yet more fast food.”

The chest pressed against her back rumbled with laughter, and the tension from Bryan’s body gradually relaxed. “Damn, so I have to come up with something better than bounce houses? I’ve got my work cut out for me.” He laid a soft kiss against her pulse, and she could’ve sworn she felt the slightest flick of his tongue against her skin. “Don’t worry, I’m going to treat you like the queen you are. After this date, you’ll never be able to say no to me again.”

His words equally warmed and scared the shit out of her.
