Snowed in with the Alien Pirate by Starr Huntress, Aerin Caldera (3)

Chapter 5

Jenny

"I demand your finest quarters," said the Commander talking at her back as though she were a common steward as she led the way.

Trying to choke back laughter, she imaged how well things would turn out if she failed to mention the water rationing policy she had on the ship, and that showers were limited to two minutes (or rather, could be, at her discretion). She imagined him pawing at the controls trying to turn it back on as the red flashing light indicated that his water usage was up for the day. Fucking unwashed savage, she thought with a grin.

"Sorry," she said, lightly apologizing as she led them down to the hall towards the unfilled guests suits. "We're not set up for VIP travel. Every cabin on this ship is the same size."

"Why am I not surprised," The Commander sniffed with derision.

A minute later Jenny paused just outside of door G-6 and quickly entered a quick succession of keystrokes that turned the faceplate a dark red color with the shape of a hand on it. She motioned towards the faceplate, "Please place your palm here and it'll code you for this room."

The Commander scowled as he reluctantly placed his palm on the glowing red icon. The door immediately sprang open revealing the same cozy space that Jenny enjoyed though this one was much cleaner.

All three of them received their separate rooms and each of them looked disappointed by their meager accommodations. Jenny reveled in their misery for she enjoyed the coziness, and the fact that it encouraged everyone to hang out in the common rooms which created a more inviting atmosphere during their trips.

Right at that moment however, she wished for the first time that she had at least a few larger rooms so the three men would stay away from everyone else. Of course then they would probably require their own personal chefs and masseurs as well; this of course would all be completely unnecessary anyways considering she was likely to murder them over the course of the next thirty days.

"Commander," said Jenny fighting to maintain an air of politeness before she parted ways with them for the moment, "I'd like to get underway immediately. Do you need to discuss matters with your crew before we disconnect?"

"Yes," he replied sharply as though talking to a dullard, "I want us to be underway in thirty minutes."

Jenny nodded curtly and turned to take her leave when the Commander cleared his throat loudly. "I haven't dismissed you."

She turned on the spot, her face livid. Since he'd come on board her ship he'd be nothing but rude, and while she expected a bit of difficultly when dealing with the Intergalactic Police force, he was just being ridiculous. How he'd lived this long without being murdered was beyond her.

But he wasn't even looking at her to see her internal struggle to stay silent. Instead he had turned to his escorts.

"Gather our things, and you," he poked one of the guards in the chest, "go back to the brig, and make sure nobody disturbs our prisoner until you are relieved."

"Yes Commander," his escorts said in unison as they each saluted their commander and each took off in separate directions. Did she image a hint of disgust in their voices as well or was she just projecting? As she watched them jog down her halls, she had the distinct suspicion that neither knew exactly where they were going nor was it likely that either would remember their way back to their quarters, but at the moment she didn't care.

The commander then turned to face her.

"You're dismissed," he said with a smugly condescending smile before disappearing into his room and sealing his door behind him.

Jenny shook her head in compete disbelief as she stood alone outside his door before impotently stalking off towards the bridge with her fists shaking in anger.

She burst onto the bridge, quietly ranting to herself, hardly realizing as the door slid shut behind her and her crew turned to look at her. "Miserly old fool!" she yelled, turning to stare at the viewing deck.

"Oh good, she's winding down," said Miles to Torres as he sat turning in his swivel chair to keep an eye on Jenny as she charged about the room aimlessly as though she were in a sadistic pinball game. "Everything okay Cap'n?"

"Brilliant," said Jenny shaking her head. She then took a deep breath and messaged her temples for a moment. She apologized and shook her head before she started in on their new orders about how they had been conscripted into prisoner transport.

"What kind of prisoner?" asked Torres. "Is he cute? Human?"

Jenny shrugged, "Soroyan? Possibly Kosst. I'm not entirely sure." She could feel herself blushing as she thought about how tall he had been, towering over them all as he casually swaggered about as though everything that transpired was just a small blip on his radar. It then occurred to her that she hadn't even caught his name. "He was- um... not entirely unpleasant on the eyes," she said, throwing Torres a knowing look.

"I suppose it could be worse," Miles said, breathing a sigh of relief. Jenny rolled her eyes as she strolled over to his chair and stole his cup of freshly brewed coffee and took a long slurping sip.

"Get your own cup," said Miles not bothering to get out of his chair.

Jenny glared down at him.

"Have Benjamin get you a new one. This one's mine," she said, turning to look over at Benjamin's empty seat.

At that moment the bridge door opened once more, and a very confused looking Benjamin walked in.

"There you are Captain. I moved my stuff back to my quarters... but there's some strange guy in a uniform down there telling me to," he raised his hands in the air in quotation marks, "get my scrawny ass out of there. I don't know why he was being so protective of the janitor's closet. Just thought you'd like to know."

"Something we should know about that closet, Cap'n?" said Miles with a small smile.

Jenny shook her head, "These fucking people." She placed her stolen mug back onto the captain's chair.

"I need to reset the permissions on the brig before I get yelled at again," said Jenny making her way back towards the door. "And this is my official notice that you all are hereby strictly forbidden from blah... blah... brig. Pass it on."

"Uh huh," said Torres licking her lips. "How convenient that you just happen to have to go back to the brig."

"And doubly convenient that Torres can't go with you," smirked Miles.

Jenny glared at each of them.

"You're both fired," said Jenny turning towards the exit. "Benjamin's in charge."

"Really?" said Benjamin looking excitedly at the captain's chair.

Torres and Miles burst out laughing as Jenny looked at the time above the door.

"We disconnect in twenty," she said and left the bridge with the door once again sliding closed behind her.

Jenny wound her way towards the brig taking the long route so that she could confirm that the Commander's troops were every bit as incompetent as Benjamin had reported. It took her no time whatsoever to find the guard that was earnestly guarding the janitor's closet, and she nodded earnestly encouraging him, despite the fact that he ignored her entirely.

Jenny mused silently to herself as she reached the landing to the brig, at least now she knew how the prisoner was able to disable a galactic military vessel. She looked around, checking to make sure she was truly alone, as she stood at the door into the brig, wondering what terrible deed he had done to require the commander to get him to Zeta R in such a hurry.

Curious to know she slapped her hand against the small control panel and the door slid open, and she found that both the cells were empty.
