As I maneuvered through the maze of the ship, uncaring about where I went, I hastily swiped the tears from my cheeks. Zorvak feared me. A dangerous female, he said. A powerful weapon, he said. I glanced at our hands before catching his intense stare once again. “You said I was dangerous. A weapon. You fear me.”
“No!” he said in a quiet, forceful tone as he shook his head. “I am worried about you. About what my people will do when they find out. The scientists alone would be hard to stave off.”
There was a tense silence while he waited for me to say something. A moment later, I finally went with, “Who’s piloting the ship?”
“Autopilot.”
I searched his face, trying to discern his feelings. I didn’t trust what I felt. Were they my feelings or his own? “What are you doing here Zorvak? Do you really want me to go with you to Ulaya?”
Yes. His fingertip traced the outline of my lips before moving to the curve of my jaw. A tender gesture that set me on fire.
Are you sure? Just a moment ago I didn’t even think you liked me.
