A Court of Ice and Wind (War of the Gods Book 3) by Meg Xuemei X (23)

Princess Rose

I swam in the natural spring creek.

My royal guards stood outside the door to make sure no one, especially angels, would disturb me.

The bath chamber was indeed one of the Dragonian’s best works in providing a luxury bath for the royal family members. I could imagine how sour the engineer race had been since the angels had taken this city of wonder from them. Some of them were bitter enough that they would do anything, including forming an alliance with me, to take back Atlantis.

The lingerie I wore covered part of my breasts and my thighs. It wasn’t modest, but it was easy to swim in.

No one would see me in it anyway.

Rain bombarded the roof. We Mysthians loved the rain as whimsical music from Earth Mother. I shifted to swim in a butterfly fashion, and a sudden wind blew from the skylight, sending down a sprinkle of rain. I twisted my torso to look up. The skylight, over a hundred feet up, was shut. Where had the wind and rain come from?

King Agro had said only he and his brother had access through the skylight, and he’d promised that he would never breach my privacy since there was no need for him to sneak up to observe my bath. He’d also mentioned that if the high prince dared to invade my personal space and come to watch me, he’d have a reason to behead his brother. King Agro had then dismissed the prospect. “Don’t mind the prick. He lost his sexual appetite toward any female two millennia ago.”

“Then he’s into males then?” I had asked.

The king had snorted. “No, he prefers to stab them.”

That was before I’d found out that I’d awoken the high prince from his sexual hibernation.

I turned to swim sideways and studied the sealed skylight.

I was alone in the Spring Hall, yet I had this feeling that I wasn’t anymore.

A puff of wind wafted a scent my way—pine in the winter, aged fine wine, and new leather in the rain.

I swallowed. The high prince was here with me. I just couldn’t see him.

He’d cloaked himself, as he’d cloaked himself and me in the king’s study. King Agro had walked past us, carrying a gold box with a chastity belt inside that was meant for me while the prince and I had stared right at him, less than five feet away.

I sharpened my senses and focused on finding the direction of the male scent.

He was perched on the north beam near the ceiling, which was a good spot to spy on me.

Ever since I’d discovered that I brought out the sexual hunger in the high prince, I’d decided that he was my mark.

He was universally feared and full of dark secrets.

He carried great powers, some of them hidden even from his own kind.

I’d tested other angels, especially the guards sent by the king and the high prince. None of the guards could make themselves invisible. They didn’t think anyone could, though they bragged to have some sort of device that could cloak their spaceships.

I strained my ears to catch any noise the prince would soon make, even a faint fluttering of wings or a heavy breath, but the prince remained quiet.

Hadn’t he realized he could never have me? I’d been promised to his brother. If he tried to take me, he would humiliate the King of Angels beyond repair. They would wage a civil war against each other. The prince commanded a small army; the king’s horde was larger.

If I could drive them to war, the Mysthians and Dragonian would fight whatever was left of the angel armies and have a better chance to win. First, I needed to fuel the prince’s lust.

I would seduce him, but never allow him to violate me. If he soiled me, not only would my reputation be ruined, but the king would have no need to keep me other than to display my head on a spike.

I glanced to where the high prince had cloaked himself, glad that my prey had finally come.

Watch, but you can never touch. When you touch, you burn.

Angels had no moral code, but somehow my instinct told me that the High Prince of Angels would not force himself on me, at least not in the beginning.

So let’s flame his lust and see how he handles it.

It was going to hurt like a bitch for him after awakening from long years of sexual apathy and inactivity, only to realize he could never get release from the object of his lust.

Burn!

What if his control slipped? Then I had a surprise for him.

I had put an Angel Shocker on my wrist, a nasty device made by the Dragonian. They’d rewired some of the weapons carried by the rogue angels they’d captured. The Angel Shocker was test-proven.

If the prince dared attack me, I’d shock him to kingdom come, and the king could come pick up his unconscious brother and fulfill his wish of having the prince’s head on a plate.

So, Prince Seth, come to me. I won’t disappoint you. I’ll be full of surprises for you.

I stood up, my lingerie hugging my body and showing every curve. I casually brushed my fingers over my nipples that poked against the flimsy material. I heard a rasp near the skylight, and I gazed down at the swell of my half-exposed breasts, wondering what the prince thought of them.

Slowly, I treaded toward the stream bank on the opposite side. To get a better view of me, the prince would have to move.

We would see how he was going to manage it while I was on full alert.

As I expected, he moved.

He might be the most skilled angel at flying so quietly. The sound of the pouring waterfall near me and the spattering rain on the ceiling also worked to his advantage. But he couldn’t cover the sudden wind current caused by his movement, no matter how subtle it was. Also, his pure male scent grew stronger with flight.

He could smell me, but he didn’t know it worked both ways.

I was a daughter of the Earth, with inherent, highlighted senses. It would be fun watching how the high prince was going to cope with his new excitement.

I leaned on the streambed with a knee bent. It was a seductive position, yet not too bold. However, I didn’t plan on being subtle forever. My hand slid to my breast and cupped it. I gave it a light squeeze and let out a faint moan.

I could feel the angel holding his breath. Hiding a cold smile, I played with myself, kneading and twisting my nipple between my thumb and forefinger.

The angel’s arousal in the air grew thick in my nostrils.

My lips parted in surprise as heat rose and spread between my thighs. I was aroused by my enemy’s arousal? That was just great.

My hand hesitated on my breast. I should not go further. I should stop.

The air was charged with the angel’s lust, as well as mine.

As if driven by a blinding force, my free hand slid up my inner thigh, slowly and with purpose, to give the angel time to savor, to anticipate more, and to let him burn.

Come to watch me bathe? Now suffer.

My hand reached for my sex.

The air rippled. I could almost hear the angel’s silent plea for me to go faster and show him more.

I indulged him, but not because I was nice.

Lust slammed into me, but I stayed in control. I wouldn’t loosen the latch in my mind.

I was better than an angel.

I decided to go a little further, to stoke his thirst and hunger, and let them rage. I would stop before the fire that had licked me became too hot.

I opened my leg.

Had I heard a gasp from the high ceiling? Not so subtle and sneaky now, was he? The high prince had forgotten about his supposed invisibility.

I wasn’t experienced in sex, but I was well educated in every aspect. Mysthians were known to have a gift in the art of seduction. As the Princess of Mysth, the gift to sense, give, and receive pleasure was natural to me.

In sex and war, there was no fair play.

My slick sex was exposed in his direction. I brushed its pinkish folds up and down like fondling a violin’s strings. I had meant to tease and taunt the angel, but my touch brought a shiver of pleasure, and the knowledge that the angel was watching made the flame leap higher and hotter.

Then shame came, colliding with my lust.

I wasn’t supposed to be turned on by an angel, yet my will and reason failed to reduce the heat between my thighs. It was as if the angel had sent his heat down to caress the channel of my sex. I could feel the weight of his gaze from above. I could feel his urgent need to come near me.

Suffer more, angel, I whispered to myself in a weak, vicious voice.

I inserted a finger into my moist heat. I let it go all the way, as deep as possible, then pulled it out and went in again, slowly at first before I built up the pace.

I caught a glimpse of my reflection on the water—my face contorted into a look of rapture. I didn’t fake my pleasure. The angel would have known a phony one, and that wouldn’t have the same effect.

I thrust two fingers inside and moaned louder. My legs bent to a more erotic position and my toes curled at the pleasure.

The hall became warmer, not from the spring water but from the sparks of fire on the angel’s wings. His arousal was burning him. His control was slipping.

His torture, my delight.

How badly did he want to replace my fingers with his cock? I knew it was large. I’d felt it when he’d pressed against me in the king’s library.

The image of the angel’s big, hard cock thrusting inside me wildly played in my head. Before I knew it, I had let out a string of sultry moans. I snarled at my primal female need as it blatantly craved the angel’s dick.

Angels had exceptional hearing, so the prince must have heard it all, despite the pouring waterfalls and rain.

Fueled by my own desire, I almost called out to him and demanded he show himself, so I could see him naked in front of me. That was only fair.

What did his cock look like?

I bit back another moan.

Rumors had it that all angels were well proportioned and that they could go as long as they wanted. One of the angels’ inside jokes was that: they conquered more beds than worlds.

They would never conquer Mysth, nor would they conquer my bed.

The heat inside my sheath became unbearable; it would only cool off when the prince thrust his hardness inside me. How would it feel when his cock first glided into the channel of my heat, and then thrust in frenzy?

My back ached as I pulled my fingers all the way in and out of my heat.

I sucked a finger to taste my own juice. It tasted like lily and honey.

A trail of black lighting sparked across the hall, accompanied by a ripple of warm air.

The skylight opened, letting in a sheet of rain, before it slid close again.

The scent of faint pine in the winter and sunshine lingered in the air, while the angel’s male musk in the rain faded faster.

The mighty High Prince of Angels had fled.

I laughed.

Princess Rose

Prince Seth hadn’t shown up anywhere for three days after he’d taken flight from my presence in the Spring Hall.

He didn’t attend his brother in court and the angel guards he assigned to “protect” me had no idea where their boss was.

I wasn’t worried that he’d gone missing, that he might be wounded somewhere and holed up, or even gotten struck by lightning when flying. Well, getting hit by lightning was most unlikely for him since he was the prince of lightning. My concern was that he was my target and I couldn’t afford to let him slip away.

Besides, my time was short; I couldn’t wait him out. So I went looking.

I was informed that he’d returned to Atlantis a night ago and had been in the arena, where angels dueled for fun, for gambling, and for training.

Soon, I realized that everyone had known that the high prince was in the ring. The guards shouted to one another. “Prince Seth has started fighting and training again!” As if their prince had been a lazy ass for centuries.

The arena had three surrounding walls and a half ceiling, which allowed angels to enter and exit from the sky. All sorts of weapons—swords, daggers, maces, spears, bows, etc—lined two sides of the walls. They were the weapons earthlings favored. None of the angels’ advanced weapons were on display.

Was this demonstration mocking the weakness of the earthborn since weapons made of earthly materials couldn’t hurt the angels? Yet they chose the earthling weapons for sports.

When we arrived, the audience was comprised entirely of angels.

My royal guards and I were the only ones without wings. I ignored the stares and fixed my gaze on the two angels parrying in the ring. One of them was the high prince. The duelers used their own swords, which could cut into anything, including their own flesh.

When they’d invaded Earth, all of the angels had brought swords that had been forged on their original planet. Their swords were works of art as well as lethal, with ancient angelic runes etched on the blades.

My army would need the same swords to cut through the angels.

The Dragonian rebels had been trying to forge the same weapons, but they didn’t have the material. The few swords they’d captured from stray angels were not sufficient; they needed to mass produce their own. Their scientists were studying the molecular structure of the angels’ blades, but the Dragonian rebel leader had requested that I find intel on the elements.

The angels battling in the arena were brutal forces. Their muscles rippled as they swung their swords. Their leaps were graceful and vigorous. Had they not been my enemies, they would’ve been a magnificent sight to see.

I watched their moves, trying to find their weaknesses.

No other race on Earth had this chance to observe angels fighting among themselves, yet I had the privilege as the future queen to the King of Angels. I needed to take advantage of it before my privilege expired or was confiscated, and that would happen soon.

My royal guards paid close attention to the angels’ every move as well while watching my back. This was an excellent case study for them. I could see my captain, Hector, was itching to fight the angels.

The other angel in the ring had cropped reddish hair. He was also tall, but leaner than the prince. Surprisingly, there was warmth about the redhead, especially when he faced the high prince, who emitted nothing less than icy menace.

The angel guards, who had followed me into the arena, commented among themselves.

“Isn’t that Ephraim?”

“I heard he arrived yesterday after the battle in galaxy 741. He requested he be reassigned to the high prince.”

“They’re old friends.”

Ephraim wore a vest, and Prince Seth was topless, his sweatpants hanging low below his waist with a dusky trail of golden hair leading down his trousers.

I tore my gaze from his navel and the enticing path of his lower hair and refocused on the fight.

The prince brought down his white, wide sword; Ephraim sidestepped and hauled his blade up to meet the prince’s.

The sound of impact was deafening.

The prince snarled like an animal and increased his speed. His friend picked up as well. The two became blurs.

My guards started speaking telepathically among themselves.

The angels’ strength and speed are greater than ours, Lion said. He was Hector’s second-in-command.

We can match theirs, Lexa chimed in. We just need to push ourselves harder.

If they come from the sky, another guard said, it’ll be difficult to hit them from under.

Find their weakness, Hector snapped.

The telepathic forum went silent. My guards’ painful doubts echoed mine. Could we pick up the sky race’s superb fighting skills? Could we really defeat the angels?

Given enough time, we probably could. Mysthians had remained as the fittest species on Earth for an eon because of our ability to adapt to our own use the advanced traits of other predators.

We had less than two months to go to war with the more powerful species, a species who had dominated two-thirds of the Earth in a week.

They could have laid siege to Mysth and taken the twilight realm by force, just as they had overthrown Atlantis and brought the Dragonian to their knees. But the Mysthians would burn with Mysth and leave them a land of ashes, despite my emperor father having considered surrendering to the angels.

So the angel king had decided to take a “higher path.” He would take over Mysth through marrying me.

I wondered if my people would still be making merry music when their princess was between the angels’ teeth. Music had never died in the twilight realm. My people used to sing and dance in the enchanted forest, where the blooms lasted forever until the sun slowly set. Then the starlight shone and fires lit out merrymaking.

The harsh sound of crossing blades dragged me back to the enemy’s territory.

I met Prince Seth’s killing glare as he kicked his opponent’s sword aside.

He had tensed at my entry, but had refused to acknowledge me until now. Until he could no longer help it.

He returned to battering his parrying partner.

So aggressive, darling, I thought tauntingly.

His friend staggered back under a sequence of heavy blows, a surprised look on the angel’s face.

A vicious giddiness rose in me. My effect on the high prince remained. I should move closer to his proximity and screw him up more.

I strode toward the center of the arena in brisk steps and my gaze didn’t leave the prince. I wanted him to feel the caress of my stare. I wanted him to feel its weight and heat. With that, I enjoyed the luxury of ogling his body—both his massive shoulders and broad chest could serve as a comfortable pillow. I blinked. How did the idea of a pillow get into my head?

My gaze dipped lower and swept over his taut abs. Without my fingers on it, I already felt how firm it was. His whole body was hard and beautiful.

This was a male with unmatchable powers.

I forced my eyes to move up, but it served me no better.

As I stared at his tanned torso corded with muscles, I suddenly had an urge to taste the sweat glistening on his smooth, hairless chest.

My breath caught. I shook off the unwanted image.

I mustn’t get myself tangled up while taunting him. The aftereffect of my bath scene was still fresh in my mind. I’d intended to burn him, and in the process, the fire had licked me as well.

I stood at the edge of the ring. The prince sent me another baleful look while locking his blade with his opponent’s.

He knew my intention. I flashed him the sweetest smile and fanned my face as if the weather was too warm. Yes, send my scent his way. Screw him up mightily! We would see how he handled his sudden lust in the middle of dueling another angel.

He gritted his teeth, his hair swaying as he moved. Then he held his breath. I could tell that by the way he pressed his sensual lips into a thin line.

With explosive strength, he pushed his blade forward, breaking the dead lock and sending the other angel flying several yards away. The angel’s wings shot wide to stop the fall.

Would the prince flee again? He’d lose face then.

He couldn’t hold his breath forever, either. Angels didn’t need as much air as the earthlings, but they still needed it.

With a shout, Ephraim charged the prince with a renewed, blunt force, and the prince twisted his sword and thrust toward his friend’s chest while his outrageous gaze roamed over me. I held his piercing, menacing eyes with a pleasant, lazy smile. That, I knew, drove him madder.

Earlier, my warriors had sunk into dismay when they couldn’t pinpoint the angels’ weakness, when they’d doubted how the Mysthians could fight these superior beings without the great, offensive earth magic.

Now I realized that we might not need the destructive magic to trample the angels.

Lusting after me was the angel prince’s weakness and my weapon. If I wielded it with timed precision, I could deliver a fatal blow to the enemies’ hearts.

If the Mysthians had to go down, we’d drag the angels down with us to the deepest pit of burning hell.

I wasn’t my emperor father. For me, extinction rated better than slavery, but I would not bring my people to extinction. I had found the angels’ weakness in their mighty high prince.

While I pondered the next execution of my plan, a crowd had gathered around me. Most of them were female angels. Like me, they preferred to stand near the ring to get a better look at their prince and receive his smoldering gaze, instead of sitting in the cold seats.

Angels weren’t a shy race and they had no concept of subtlety. The females fixed their blatant stare on the prince’s naked torso, roving over every inch.

During my short stay in Atlantis, I’d heard gossip. The angels had speculated how long I would last. The angel females had resumed their age-old bet: whoever could keep the high prince’s interest would win it all. I’d also heard that, even before he’d lost his appetite for sexual intercourse, that no female had ever held his interest longer than a night.

He’d never fucked any female twice.

I wondered if it would cause a riot when the angels found out their prince’s lust for me. I wondered if I could hold his interest for more than one night under a different circumstance—when he could easily have me.

I instantly scolded myself for entertaining that dirty thought.

But didn’t we all love a bit of challenge?

I could see it wasn’t just for the sake of challenge and bets that the females wanted to get their claws on him. Prince Seth exuded arrestingly sexual appeal, even in the middle of the battle, and even though he hadn’t had sex for ages. Maybe now that his lust had been awoken and roared like a beast, all females had heard it and responded.

I found myself not liking the way those females ogled their high prince.

He was my prey. I wouldn’t appreciate anyone poaching him before I pounced and brought him down. As I looked around the crowd, I realized my competition was great.

However, there was one difference: they’d go after the prince, but I’d make him come to me.

The dueling angels’ blades clanged again.

The prince fanned out his wings. He was the only angel who had golden wings adorned by a peacock-blue tipped fringe.

The females gasped at the display, and a couple of them pressed their hands to their hearts.

I snickered. A bit too showy, wasn’t he? He’d taken notice of all the females gawking at him. Was he trying to make all of them drool over him so he could have his pick? Was it possible that after I had awoken him, he would lust after every female that moved?

Then why had I even awoken him?

A sour taste hung on my tongue. If so, the fatal weakness I had found in this angel was no longer a vulnerability. If so, my plan to swing him as the weapon to divide the angels’ house had failed before it started.

Every Mysthian believed that the great earth magic dwelled in me. I had gone through quite a few crises so far, yet hadn’t felt a stir within. My people had put their faith in the wrong one.

I had no destructive magic to go against the angels.

I hadn’t found the Forbidden Glory or any useful intel for my allies.

The weapon I’d thought I could use turned out to be a dud.

What else did I have?

My heart contracted in my chest with bleak fear.

Just then, Prince Seth struck his rival with wings that flared black lightning. That was the most magnificent, yet terrifying, sight.

Ephraim fell backwards and tumbled down with a thud, his white wings limping and dragging on the ground.

The high prince had knocked his friend out cold.

He didn’t even spare the fallen angel a glance, but trained his scorching, savage gaze on me.
