Alpha's Wolf: An MM Mpreg Romance (Northern Pines Den Book 4) by Susi Hawke (1)

Frankie

“I'm certain of it, Peter. I can get your men directly to Yvonne.” I blinked owlishly at the harsh glare from my monitor, suddenly realizing how tired I was. I glanced over at the bright red display on the digital clock across from me on the desk. Crap. Was it really 11:39 a.m.? Damn. That meant I'd been in the zone for about sixteen hours. Again.

“How did you do this, Frankie? And do you have a way to verify this information before we proceed? I apologize for questioning you, I am just quite thrilled with this news that you have give me. The Alpha will want to know everything, yes?”

The calm beta captain's voice was unusually animated after I'd given him the good news. Normally our conversations were brief and emotionless, so this was an interesting change of pace.

I yawned suddenly with the fatigue of the long night kicking in now. “Listen, Peter. I don't have a lot of information for you yet. I'm running the program now. The worm I planted in that text attachment I had your guy send from her operative's phone when they took out her hubs last month during our attack. That attachment was opened by the phone number that her operative had listed as being Yvonne's. That's all I can tell you at the moment. It will take hours for it to install the GPS tracker and to transmit back an internal snapshot of her phone and its programs.”

“When will you have more information, Frankie? I apologize again, but this is an urgent matter.” Peter sounded like he was getting really wound up now.

“Listen, Peter. I promise that you will be the first to know when I have more details for you to follow up on. This call was just to give you a heads up. I'm sorry, but I've been at this since right after dinner last night. I need to crash for a few hours while my computers talk to each other, to put it in simple terms. It's going to take all day, but it will be running while I sleep. No time will be lost, I promise. Peter, I will have all the information you need by tonight. I'll call you when I know more.”

“Call at any hour, Frankie. I will have my phone on me at all times. And please, get some rest. We need you fully recharged and with your head in the game if we are to finally win against the Alpha's sister and end this war.”

“You got it, Peter. I'll in touch.” I ended the call and leaned back in my chair to stretch. After I made sure that everything was working correctly, I finally stood. After a few twisting stretches, I made my way into the bathroom. After I'd quickly dealt with my heavy bladder, I washed my hands and scrubbed my teeth. The last thing I remembered was flopping down across my bed and passing out.

When I came back to consciousness, the room was dark except for the faint glow from my monitors. Each screen had gone into sleep mode, with the image of a little bouncing marble moving across the darkened screens.

After I'd taken a leak and grabbed an energy drink from the fridge, I settled back in at my desk. Paydirt. I had the alpha-bitch's ass! I went from screen to screen until I'd checked on all four programs that I had been running concurrently.

Grabbing my phone, I punched in the number to Peter's cell while I read the mass of information that had accrued during my slumber. There was discordant beeping in my ear. I held the phone out a few inches from my head, as a robotic voice informed me that my call could not be completed at this time. Checking the number, I tried again. Same awful beeping and robo-message happened again. I dialed the Alpha next, but got the same message. Shit. Had something happened?

Quickly, I dialed the number I had for Jules. He was a jaguar shifter who was now the de facto leader of the bear den's military presence. Rather than patrolmen and guards, he'd trained them to be soldiers over the past year since I'd come onto the scene.

Alpha Mikael had hired me based on Jules' recommendation after his sister had declared war on him and his den. Jules and I had been in the military together briefly, before I'd been moved into intelligence.

We'd maintained contact though. He was one of the few people who knew my true identity these days, and that was only because he knew me before I became Frankie the Fingers. Some idiot had named me that for my fast hacking abilities, and it had stuck. Unfortunately.

For the past year, every skirmish had been an attack by Yvonne's men on the den. Since Yvonne and her rogue packs weren't tied to a location like the bears were to their den, she had the tactical advantage. But that would end now.

My worm had taken over her phone the minute she'd opened that link in the message. I was also able to track her by GPS now, and see her email and social media accounts. My keylogger gave me the ability to see her keystrokes at the same time that I tracked her. It was really quite a neat little script.

I tried ringing Jules' house phone, since his cell also wasn't working. I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard ringing in my ear. Seconds later, I heard Jules' voice on the other end of the line.

"Hello?" He sounded tense, and the sound of crying cubs could be heard in the background.

"Hey Jules, this is Frankie. I can't reach anyone at the den, and I have news." I spoke in a rush, desperate to get the words out. "I can track her. The worm worked."

Jules sucked in a breath. "Frankie. Hot damn, is that ever good to hear. Where are you? How soon can you get here?"

"Do I seriously need to come there?" I asked skeptically. I didn't like to get face to face with clients. But it was different with Jules involved. He would work with me and still protect my anonymity.

"There was a big storm this afternoon, Frankie. Lightning took out the cell tower that services the area, as well as a few power lines. We don't have any cell service or internet, and it will likely be a day or two before service is restored."

My mind raced. "Well, you have a working phone line. Hold on." I quickly tapped a few keys and brought up the Mills Creek services. "Okay, yes. I can make it work. Do you have room at your place, Jules? I really don't want to be seen around town."

"I always have room for you, Frankie. Get that nerdy ass of yours in gear and get on the road. How soon should I be looking for you?"

"I'll be there in about three hours, give or take," I said after a little thought.

"Sounds good, my friend. I'll have a work area ready and waiting. A bed too, but knowing you, you'll probably be working more than you'll be sleeping." He chuckled knowingly in my ear.

"It's going to be good to see you, Jules. Listen, I know this goes without saying, but nobody knows I'm tracking her outside of you, me, Peter, and Mikael. Keep a tight circle, right?"

"Exactly so, Frankie. Keep it tight. Drive safe, I'll see you in a few. You have my address already or are you going to give me the courtesy of giving to you?"

"Of course, I have it. We really need to talk about cyber-security, Jules. It was ridiculous how easy it was to find you." I laughed, then ended the call. I had to get moving. The night was short and the drive was long.
