JAKE
“What did the TBI say?”
Nix set his phone on the desk and leaned back in his chair. “It’s been declared a homicide. They’ll be calling each of us in for questioning. They’re looking into the Royals too.”
“You needed proof and now you got it. Tolito’s responsible, you know it. The threats are escalating. He knows more than we thought. We have a rat.”
“You’re right.” Nix let out a breath. “Pat never would’ve given Tolito information. Tolito is getting it from someone else.”
“Jake! Jake!”
At the sound of Jenna screaming, I stepped to the door and swung it open. Jenna came barreling in, followed by Dillon.
My chest tightened. “Where’s Peach?”
“They took her.” Jenna’s eyes were wide with fear. “Two men on motorcycles. One had a dice tattoo on his neck. The other had dark hair and a tattoo across his hand. We were outside when they drove up and tried to take us both. Liz kicked the guy who had hold of me and he loosened his grip enough I got away.”
“Fuck.” Dillon raked his hand through his hair. “They weren’t supposed to take her.”
My body moved across the floor in seconds. My fists grabbed his vest and slammed Dillon against the wall.
“Where the fuck did they take her?”
“I don’t know.”
“Why would you help that son of a bitch? He’s gonna hurt her!”
“He wanted to take you out. She was never part of the deal.”
I pulled Dillon forward and slammed him back into the wall. His head cracked against it and his hand went to the back of his head.
“You stupid mother fucker! You turned on your own brothers for a measly seven grand and now Tolito has Liz! What? All because I took what you thought was yours. She was always mine!”
I released my grip and swung. My fist contacted his face and the rage inside me unleashed. Another swing and blood spattered from his lip.
“I didn’t collect the seven grand,” Dillon spat out.
“What do you mean?” I pulled my bloody fist back from his face.
“I don’t know anything about the drug deal! Tolito and his crew cornered me. They wanted to take you out for what you did to Rex and Tony.”
My eyes narrowed on his. “What did you get in return?”
“My own life. It was me or you. I gave them your address. That’s it. I wasn’t willing to die for you and I knew you could handle yourself. You had a better chance than I did.”
The sound of Nix racking a shotgun pulled me from my interrogation.
Jenna sucked in a breath.
“We’ll deal with him later.” Nix nodded toward the door. “We need to move. Get Max and Trevor.”
Jenna latched onto Nix. “Maybe you should call the police.”
I shook my head as rage coursed through my veins. “We don’t have time for the police. It won’t be long before Tolito beats and rapes her. We need to get to her as fast as we can.”
“Where do you think he took her?” Jenna squeaked out.
My gaze shifted to Nix. “She’s gotta be at his clubhouse. It’s manned with his remaining crew, private, and already set up for his needs.”
Nix called the Kings into the courtroom. His heated stare narrowed in on each member. “Tolito took Liz. We need riders. We’re going after her. We’re riding armed, so if anyone says no, I understand.”
Max nodded. “I’m in.”
Trevor tapped his vest. “Same here.”
Axel stepped forward. “In.”
Wesley shook his head. “I can’t boys. I’m getting too old for this. I’ll stay behind and deal with things here.”
Nix nodded and focused his gaze on Lucas and William. “What about you two?”
William shook his head. “Nah man. I’m not gonna ride hot.”
Lucas’ hands trembled and his body twitched uncomfortably.
I stepped toward him. “Fuck, Lucas, you on something?”
“This has gotten outta hand,” Lucas murmured.
I grabbed his collar and spun him toward me. “What do you mean? Start talking. Now!”
“I was in deep, Jake. I owed Tolito thousands.”
“What is it? Coke? Heroin?”
“Cocaine.”
“Did you sell out Pat?”
Tears filled Lucas’ eyes.
“You son of a bitch. You sold him out for the money!”
“I’d overheard him on the phone one night. Then Tolito offered the money. I had my girl, Crystal, tell ‘em what I’d heard. He gave her the money and I paid it back to him.” His voice cracked. “I never expected him to go after Liz. I’m sorry, man. I just needed out before he came for me. He’d already sent a couple of his guys after me once.”
My body shook with rage.
“Jake, please, man, we’ll get her back.”
I slammed Lucas onto the table and swung. Blood spattered across the wood. “After he fucking rapes her and let’s his brothers do the same?”
“Stop him before he kills the bastard!” Trevor shouted.
Another swing landed then several arms dragged me from Lucas’ limp body.
“He’s out cold,” Wesley said, standing over Lucas.
Nix grabbed my arm and met my gaze. “Got your shit together?”
I rubbed my swollen, bloody knuckles and nodded.
“Then we need to fucking go. We’re wasting time.”
