Cocky Jerk (Cock of the Walk Duet Book 1) by Rose Harper, Mae's Wicked Grafix (6)

I heard my mother walking up the hall just before she opened my door. The moment she saw me, her eyes began to tear up and she squealed her excitement. I turned in a full circle for her. Since it was only me and her living there, she was my one and only best friend. There was nothing I didn’t share with her. Well, except for tonight being my first time. She was a laid-back mother, but I wasn’t sure she would approve of it. So I opted to keep my mouth shut.

“Oh, sweetheart. You take my breath away.” She dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief.

“Thanks, Mom.  I’m pretty excited,” I stated in a singsong voice, doing another full circle.

“As you should be, honey.” She came toward me, giving me a big hug. “Brad looks so good tonight, too. I’m glad you all decided to match colors.”

When I went to pick out my dress a few months ago, Brad and I decided to go with red as our color. It was an easy enough color. My mom and I needed all of five minutes at the local boutique to find the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. It was an empire waist, the corseted top jeweled with the most beautiful gems I had ever seen. It flared at the waist, giving me a princess look. It dragged on the floor, even with my silver four-inch heeled sandals.

My mom helped me fix my hair and makeup, giving me a light smoky eye. She curled my long blonde hair at the crown of my head, placing a tiny tiara at the front with the curls falling in layers behind it. I finished the look with a diamond tiered necklace and teardrop earrings. The moment I saw myself in the mirror, I couldn’t believe how good I looked.

“Well, let’s not keep the young man waiting,” my mother chuckled, ushering me out of my room.

She went down before me, insisting that she present me to him. Like a court would present some princess. I could hear Brad’s feet shuffling against the floor, and I smiled. I knew what he was thinking. How fast can I get her out of the monstrosity she’s wearing? Well, I had a bit of a surprise for him when he got that feat accomplished.

After hearing my mother present me, I started descending the stairs. Each step brought me closer to the man that I loved. The first thing I noticed were his red as hell converse shoes. I chuckled. He never did anything half-assed; that’s what I loved about him. The next thing I noticed was his black pinstriped pants and his black pinstriped overcoat. God, he looked good enough to eat, and I hadn’t seen all of him yet.

As I got to the bottom of the stairs, I took in his once just-fucked hair was not gelled to perfection. I couldn’t wait to run my fingers through it and mess it all up.  His red vest was the next thing I saw, showing from underneath his jacket and his black shirt and red tie. He looked fucking edible. My gaze finally landed on his face, where I saw the biggest shit-eating grin known to man.

“You look beautiful, love,” he breathed.

I blushed, and looked away shyly. “You’re not half bad yourself, handsome.”

My mother cackled with laughter and clasped her hands together. “We really must get a picture. This is too epic to miss.”

I shook my head briefly, smiling the entire time. He took the corsage out of the plastic box he’d been holding and placed it on my wrist. I began freaking out. His flower, fuck. Just as I was starting to visibly panic, my mother handed me his flower to pin to his suit. I sighed in relief as I took it from her, pinning it right over the jacket pocket. After getting it placed how I wanted, I smoothed his jacket out. His heartbeat was already starting to race from the small contact.

I looked up at Brad, and not being able to help myself, I laced my fingers through his hair and pulled him down to meet my lips in a sweet, quick kiss. I heard my mother clear her throat and I rolled my eyes, causing him to chuckle. Turning to face my mom, I placed my hand on his chest as he brought his hand around and clung to my hip. The contact sent a jolt of electricity through me. Damn, he always set me on fire with the simplest of touches.

We both smiled as my mom raised the camera in front of her. “One… Two… Three.” The sound of a click came, and she looked into the screen and started crying a little more.

I sighed. “Mom, I will be home soon, okay? Just don’t freak out.”

She waved me off. “Just go have fun, sweetie. Take care of my little girl, Brad Titan.”

He leveled me with warm eyes and a slight smirk. “Don’t worry, I plan to, Mrs. James.”

With that we were off.
