Courage to Love (Fortitude) by Pavan Kaur (20)

Epilogue

I look at Rhett smiling at me, “I will be waiting over there with everyone, Noah put the bag there for you,” giving me a kiss on the cheek and I walk over to my parents grave.

Noah put out a blanket for me, I look back and give Noah a smile, sitting down on the blanket. “Hello mom, hello dad.” Touching the grass in front of the stones, “so I bet you never thought you would see this day did you, my wedding day.” I smile looking at my ring, “I figured it was weird having our wedding today, but Noah kept telling me that instead of looking at the year to come as a bad day, look forward to the year as a good day.” I start to undo the knot on my flowers, “but for me, that was still horrible, I mean who gets married on the same day their parents were murdered?” I ask, knowing very well that they can’t answer me back. “Rhett kept saying that he wants this time of the year to be replaced with happy thoughts and a happy day, something to look forward to, for a moment I thought I can’t there is no way that, that day will ever be happy for me.” Patting the tissue on my cheeks, I try to control my tears. “Noah sat me down and said that, that no matter what happens, you will always feel the pain for today, but if I can bring some happiness to that day why not, Rhett knows what the day means too, and he wants to show you that every day is a memory of your parents, a happy memory.” Taking a moment for myself as my eyes tear up again. “He said Star, don’t let them two weeks punish you anymore, find happiness, and with that, I agreed to have my wedding today.” I look behind me at everyone talking, “I wore your dress mom, change it a little but not too much,” I look down at my dress with a smile and a tear lands on my hand, looking back up at the graves, I put half my flowers into each vase. “I know what you are thinking, will I drink when the flashbacks come to me?  I was wondering the same thing, until this morning.” Looking through my bag, “this morning something happened, and I thought there is no way I will fail this time, and I wanted you, mom, to know first.” I place my pregnancy test on the grass, and smile, “I’m going to be a mom,” I look back at everyone and smile, as I see Rhett walking over. “He doesn’t know yet, so this should be fun.” Putting my hand over the test, I stand up as Rhett stands behind me.

“What should be fun Mrs. Johnson?” Rhett asks, wrapping his arms around me and giving me a kiss.

“Love my new name,” I smile and take a step back, taking his hand I place the test in his hand.

“What’s this?” He looks at the stick, and I smile, taking things out of the bag, “Sweetheart, are you sure?” He asks and his smiling so much right now.

“Well if that one is wrong, these five aren’t” I show him all the other ones, laughing as Rhett grabs them from me and looks through them.

Throwing the tests in the bag, he grabs my face and kisses me, “best day of my life,” Rhett shouts, making everyone look over at him.

I see Noah walking over, and everyone follows him, and Rhett keeps yelling, how happy he is.

“Star?” Noah looks at me.

Rhett wraps his arm around my waist, and I look at him smiling at everyone.

Looking at Noah, “you ready to be Uncle Noah?” I ask him. Emma screams behind him jumping up and down.

Noah pulls me away from Rhett and hugs me, “you bet I’m ready,” kissing my cheek.

“I’m godmother,” Emma shouts.

“If she’s godmother than I’m godfather,” Jay shouts.

I start laughing at them both, Helen hugs me and says congratulations, “Welcome to the family, but you were always a member,” she says.

Looking over at Terry who seems a little quiet, I give him a smile, “I’m going to be a grand-dad,” first time I’ve heard Terry choke up on words.

“Yes you are Terry, time to spoil someone,” I say, and he gives Rhett a big man hug and says something to him, “Now let's go celebrate,” Terry says walking away, everyone follows him.

Turning around I look at the graves, with a smile. I feel Rhett wraps his arms around me, “I love you, and life cannot be any better than today,” kissing my cheek.

“I love you too,” moving closer to the graves, I give them both a kiss, “I love you guys,” I say walking back over to Rhett.

Rhett takes his flower from his jacket and walks over to my father’s grave, kneeling down and places in the vase, “I will look after your daughter now, I will love your daughter more every day, and I will never let her feel pain again.” Rhett walks back over to me and holds my hands, “She found the courage to love me, and I found the courage to trust her, you Scarlett Johnson, are my world, don’t you ever forget that. Always by my side.” He says giving me a kiss.

Yes, I found the Courage to Trust, Courage to Fight and the Courage to Love, Rhett Johnson, and I’m so happy he never gave up on us. So happy because I don’t see my life but by his side.
