Courage to Love (Fortitude) by Pavan Kaur (6)

Chapter 7

Rhett and I spent all morning walking around London, and the smile has not left my face. Rhett took me to everywhere I wanted to go today. London has to be the most beautiful city in the world, even though it is cold out there, the Christmas lights, the Christmas themes on the street is incredible. Rhett kept telling me that I had to come in the evening to see how nice the lights look, so tomorrow night before his training starts, he said he would take me for a nice dinner and a walk along the Thames which will be so nice, and I cannot wait.

Walking around the bedroom, eating my M&Ms I take a look at Rhett coming out of the bathroom, with a towel wrapped around his waist. Never going to get bored of looking at that sexy body, and the best part is that he’s all mine.

“How many packs have you eaten?” Rhett asks, taking a handful for himself, he leans down and gives me a kiss.

“This is my first pack,” giving Rhett a smile, “Plus I have enough to last me until I go back home, but I like the one in the purple wrapper more, dairy something,” I say I mean that chocolate tastes amazing. That stuff I know I can eat every day for the rest of my life.

“Dairy Milk, I think there is more in the kitchen.” Rhett looks at his phone as he talks to me, “shit,” he whispers to himself.

I want to ask him if everything is okay, but I see his body tense up a little, so it must be something important, “I’m just going to call my mom.” Rhett says putting on some jogging bottoms, then walks out the door.

Well, it’s something that he won’t tell me, can’t wait for him to start telling me everything that goes on in his life. Leaning back in the chair and wonder what has happened, but for some reason, my head keeps going back to CeCe, why do I get the feeling that she has more to do with Rhett’s demons that he’s telling me.

I look down at my phone as it rings, Emma. “Hey, you,” I say, turning around to look out the window.

“Hey, how is my girl doing in London?” She asks I hear noise in the background.

“Good, going to a pub later, Jay’s taking part in the pool competition, which I am now helping him with, how is LA?” I know that she still isn’t that happy moving over there.

“It’s getting better; Matt is spending more time with me, his friends are kind, it’s the girls that are always around. I mean why are they always around, don’t they have a home to go to, instead they're always in our apartment, and they don’t even leave until late.” She stops, and I hear her take in a deep breath, “Sorry for moaning,” she whispers. I can picture her sat down rubbing her head, and trying very hard not to cry.

“Em, you know that you can call me whenever you want to moan, I will always listen and help you in any way I can.” There is a silence between us, and I can tell she is thinking, “Em, have you spoke to Matt about his friends being there?” I ask, I know Emma, and she loves Matt and that mean she won’t say anything to him because it will hurt his feeling.

But then again who am I to say talk to him, when my boyfriend doesn't even talk to me, so how can I tell Emma to speak to Matt.

“I know I should, but there is never time to talk to him, when I get back from work all his friends are here, and when they go I’m already in bed for work the next day.” In this moment I can hear the pain in her voice.

“Em, you need to talk to him, or you’re not going to be happy with him,” I say, looking over at the door as Rhett walks back in.

“I know, I know, you’re right, I have to talk to him. Has Rhett told you anything yet?” Emma asks, and I smile to myself, we both have problems, but we both don’t want to leave our men.

“Nope, and I don’t think it will happen soon.” I look back outside, “but who knows anything can happen.” I say a little quiet so that Rhett can’t hear the conversation.

“Have you seen the bitch yet?”

“Yep, she came to the house acting as she lives here,” I tell Emma

“Did you hit her,” I hear Emma laughing, which makes me laugh. “If you did, I can’t believe you didn’t get Jay to take pictures for me.” She adds.

“Sorry, it just happened.” I look back over at Rhett getting dressed, “Em I should start getting ready, you talk to Matt and call me when you can.” I tell her, getting off the chair and walking into the closest to get my dress.

“I will; I love you,” Em says then ends the call.

Walking back out to the bedroom, I watch Rhett looking at me walking over to him, “I would stop staring at me like that Rhett, you look very sexy in your clothes shame to ruin it,” I smile giving him a kiss on the cheek.

“Plus Jay has been calling me, telling us to get there.” Rhett smiles moving in closer to me.

Turning around, “can you zip me up please?” I ask Rhett moves my hair over my shoulder.

I can feel his breath on my neck, “do I get to unzip you tonight?” kissing my neck softly, “do I get to kiss you tonight?” As the zipper hits the top of the dress, “do I get to make you scream tonight?” Rhett whispers the words, and every word is making my body excited for his touch.

Turning around, I look up at him, his beautiful green eyes looking down at me, “you get to kiss me, every night, you get to undress me every night, and you get to make me scream every night too.” Wrapping my arms around his neck, and pulling him in a for a kiss, his hands wrap around my waist pulling me in closer to him.

Rhett pulls away as his phone rings in his pocket, shaking his head, “it’s Jay, again.” Answering the phone, “we are on our way…you can be a right dick you know that right, yes she is playing tonight, not happy about it, though…” Walking away from him, I put my shoes on. “we are leaving right now.” Ending the call Rhett puts his hand out for me, “you bending over in that dress to play pool, is like you are punishing me for something.”

Placing my hand in his, “come on let's see what’s so fancy about this pub,” I smile, grabbing my bag off the bed, and follow Rhett out.

* * *

Walking into the pub, Rhett pulls me closer to him as everyone cheers for him. I smile as I see his friends saying hello to him, I see Helen in the corner of my eye, giving her a smile as I walk over to her.

Giving her a kiss on the cheek, “everyone seems happy to see Rhett back,” turning around to look at him, “you’d think that Rhett hasn’t been here in months.” I say.

“He hasn’t when he came back the first time, Rhett spent it locked in the house, then when he came back this time he was either at home or the airport, so this is the first time they have seen him.” Helen says and then gives Terry a kiss.

“Hey sweetheart, you love beautiful.” Terry gives me a kiss, “Honestly, you going to be okay here?” He asks.

I look at him for a moment, not once has anyone asked me that since Jay mentioned coming to the pub, true I’m not happy being here, but it meant a lot to Rhett. And to be honest I don’t even think Rhett thought it would be a problem for me, is it an issue for me? A little of the smell is already hitting my veins.

“I’m good,” I look at him as Jay walks over to us.

“If you looked me in the eyes, I might believe you,” Terry says. That means he’s going to be watching my every move, and in one way I’m happy that he is.

“About time you guys get here.” Jay gives me a hug, “right before I say you’re my partner let’s see how you play.” Jay says taking my hand and leading me to the pool table.

“I’ve only just walked in here, can I at least get a drink,” I say as Jay hands be a cue stick.

“Water,” passing me a bottle of water, “now let's see what you can do.” He says nodding his head towards the table.

Rollin my eyes at him, I start the game, taking one more look over at Rhett as he talks to his friends, I hope he’s not planning on ignoring me all night.

Putting my cue on the table, I look at Jay waiting for him to say something to me about how I did. “Looks like we’re going to win,” Jay says wrapping his arms around me, a lot tighter than he should.

“You want to let my girl go,” I hear Rhett from behind me, “I take it she passes,” He says, and pulls me closer to him.

“Passes, she’s coming to London every year for this game.” Jay looks over at Rhett, “going to get a beer,” Jay says walking away from us.

“Your friends are happy to see you,” I smile, “it's nice to see you here, with them,” I say leaning in closer to him.

Wrapping his arms around my waist, Rhett leans on the pool table, “So you’ve been here an hour or so, how are we feeling?” I look over at Terry looking over at us, “sweetheart, you’re not saying anything.” Rhett squeaks my waist.

“I’m fine, stronger that before you know.” Giving Rhett a smile, “so you don’t need to worry about it, plus why should you worry when Terry is worrying for you,” I say smiling as Rhett looks over at Terry.

“If being here is getting even a little too much we are leaving,” Rhett says, and I can’t help but laugh at him, his voice comes over very hard and demanding.

Walking over to Helen and Terry, Rhett sits down next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. As I listen to the conversation going around me, I lean into Rhett.

“So this is the girl that finally has Rhett in check,” I look up at the man stood next to the table, “I hear you don’t take his shit, I’m Grant,” he puts his hand out for me.

“Hi, Scarlett.” I give him a smile; he’s a big guy too about the same size as Terry.

“How did an ugly shit like you get her?” Grant looks at Terry and then puts the beer in front of him, “yours.” Grants says, pulling a chair to join us.

“I can ask the same thing to you, how the fuck did you get Whit?” Rhett asks, then looks over at the women behind the bar. “Sweetheart meet Grant the owner and his wife over there is Whit.” Rhett takes his beer and looks back at Grant.

“Would you believe me if I said I’m a machine in bed,” Grant says making the whole table laugh. “I mean it, in my days I used to look like this,” he points to Rhett, “tell them, Terry,” Grant says nudging Terry, who is still laughing.

“I ain’t saying shit; I still wonder how you got a ring on her.” Terry looks at Whit. “What did he promise you?” Terry asks her.

“You know we have this same conversation, every night. How are you not bored of it yet?” Whit leans on Grants shoulder, “So are you the one finally making him smile?” Whit looks over at me, with a smile.

“Scarlett come on, about to start.” Jay walks off to the group of men at the pool table.

I look over at Rhett with a smile, “how did this night become a pool tournament?” I ask him, I thought I would sit in the corner, listen to his friends telling me stories about him and watch everyone, but no, I am now playing pool.

“This is a very serious tournament, and the winner gets free drinks for the new year, Jay and Rhett haven’t paid for a drink in three years.” Grant tells me, “so you might not want to lose.” He says getting off his chair for me to walk around him.

Walking over to Jay, he hands me a cue, “you know I don’t like this Jay,” I wave my hand over him, “you know sometimes in life you lose.” I say looking at the board and how the rounds work.

“Not in my life, so focus.” He says in a playful way, making me laugh, “Okay so we are second, we should be all good, the only competition we have is the Scott brothers.” He points to them both, “but if you play as good as you did before and it wasn’t just a one-off I have nothing to worry about.” Jay says as he sits on the stool, looking over at Rhett talking to Grant and Whit.

“Can I ask a question?” I look at Jay.

“Sure.” He says not looking up at me.

“Does Rhett miss living in England?” I ask. I see him here he seems a lot more free, relaxed even. Maybe his moving to Vegas to be with me isn’t right for him.

“No, he comes over that much he doesn’t get the chance to miss it,” Jay finally looks at me, “Rhett was planning on moving to Vegas before he met you, now you answer my question.” I give him a nod to say ask away, “Do you love Rhett?”

I look at him in surprise asking that question; I just didn’t think that it would be something he would ask me.

“I get that you have feelings for Rhett, I know that he’s crazy for you, I mean to the point, that if anything would happen there is no way he would be able to bounce back from it.” He looks over at Rhett, and I look over to, “but even I know him not talking is slowly killing you inside, the feelings you have for Rhett are they strong enough to stay with him if he doesn’t tell you.” Jay says looking back over at the game.

I stay quiet and don’t answer his question, not because I can’t explain it, but because now I’m thinking will Rhett tell me, and if he doesn’t am I strong enough to stay with him, no matter what happens.

Winning our game, I smile at Jay as he watches the faces of the others surprised, with his win. When I first set foot at the pool table, most of the other team laughed, not believing that Jay had me playing, but soon shut their mouths, and that was fun to watch them looking at me shocked. We are now waiting to see who we are playing the final match with, I wanted to go to Rhett as I wait for our turn, but Jay kept stopping me, never wanted to hit someone more.

“Is Jay stopping you coming to me?” Rhett asks wrapping his arms around my waist from behind me. “He told me that I couldn't come near you either, but he can fuck off.” Rhett starts kissing my neck.

“Come on, one more game,” Jay pushes Rhett, making him lose his footing, Rhett takes me with him, hitting my waist on the bar.

“That’s going to leave a mark,” I say rubbing my side. Rhett pushes me to the side and pushes Jay.

“Jay, what the fuck?” Rhett asks.

Jay shakes his head at him, moving closer to Rhett, he starts rubbing my waist, “Think you need to stop drinking,” Jay tells him, making me look over at Jay.

“Fuck you,” Rhett shouts at him.

“Rhett,” I give him a look that he needs to stop, Jay was messing about, I mean he was saying it in a joking way.

I move between his legs, “you look beautiful,” he says kissing my neck, maybe Jay was right, he does need to stop drinking. “Jay’s being a dick, ignore him….” Rhett takes his phone out, “bitch,” he says to himself then walks away. I look over at Helen and Terry both staring at me, then Helen follows Rhett outside.

“CeCe drama,” Jay tells me, biting my bottom lips to keep my thoughts to myself, “She's just a bitch, and making things harder for Rhett, and today looks like whatever the bitch has done has pissed him off more.” Turning around to look at the two teams playing, I try to ignore the voice in my head, and I do the only thing I can think off.

Do you think that I'm stupid giving Rhett another chance to talk?

Sending Ed a message I put the phone back in my bag, and focus back on the game, but feel it vibrate straight away.

Ed - No, I know you want things to work out for you, and I believe that one day he will talk to you. What’s happened?

Me - CeCe, I get the feeling that she plays a bigger part in Rhett’s life and his demons. She’s always there, even when she’s not standing in front of us. Rhett is drunk, and Jay says it's CeCe being a bitch.

I look up from my phone, as I see Jay staring at me, taking my eyes away from him I focus on the pool game.

Ed - You have to make a choice, would you be able to be happy with him if he doesn’t talk to you, we both know you went there hoping he would talk, but we both know there was a chance he wouldn’t. You know, even wait until your ticket back and see what happens, or make a choice. Come back home and put Rhett behind you or work it out with Rhett if he doesn’t tell you.

I stare at the message for a while, I know that Ed is right, Noah said the same thing before I left, there is a chance he still won’t talk to me. I take a deep breath I put my phone back into my bag, and focus on winning this game for Jay.

Bringing his arm over my shoulder, “ready to win me free drinks for the year?” He asks, making me laugh.

“I would never hear the end of it if I didn’t.” I give him a smile, “Plus, as I don’t drink, what do I win?” I ask him.

“That’s easy, I will buy you a bag of sweets, and every time I come to Vegas, I will bring sweets and chocolate. You're like the easiest girl to shop for.” Jay gives me a kiss on the cheek, “I already got your Christmas present.” He says walking away from me to the pool table.

I haven’t even thought about Christmas presents for Terry, Helen or Jay, note to myself think of what to buy them.

I look over at the door, and Rhett and Helen walk back in, Rhett starts to walk over, but Terry stops him, Rhett looks over at Jay and me then sits down next to Terry and Grant puts another beer in front of him.

“Ready?” Jay asks.

“You bet,” I turn to face him, and look at him for a moment, smiling. “Thank you,” I say, then walking over to the table to take my shot. If it weren't for Jay today, I would have gone crazy with the way Rhett is being, and him being here making sure that I’m busy is nice.

* * *

“Not sure how you do it Jay, but free drinks for the year,” Whit passes him a beer, “one year I’m going to get a team in here, that won’t even let you get to round two,” she smiles at him.

“Have you seen my new partner?” Jay looks at me, “like she will lose.” Wrapping his arm around my shoulder, “lucky charm right here.” Jay says, looking at Grant and Whit.

“Can I have my girl back now,” Rhett pushes Jay away from me, “kept her to yourself all night.” Rhett gives me a hard kiss, making me lose my stepping. “Don’t you think that my girl is the sexiest women in the world,” Rhett grabs my ass pushing his pelvis into me. “Can not wait to get you into bed tonight.” He says.

I look up at him, and his eyes have gotten dark, “I think that’s enough drinking for you,” I say as he leans into me, I start moving back, not wanting him to kiss me again, “how about we go home, to sleep.” I look at him, his eyes look cloudy, how much has he even drank.

“I don’t want to sleep…I have other things planned,” Yep he’s drunk, “Come on sweetheart,” Rhett says leaning his head on my shoulder, he’s a big guy to be leaning on my shoulder. I look over at Terry.

“Sit down, give him ten minutes, he will fall asleep.” Terry pulls Rhett off me and walks over to the table for him to sit down.

“So anyone going to tell me what CeCe has done this time?” I look at the three faces just watching me, but all I get back is silence, “I take that as a no then,” looking at Rhett leaning on my shoulder again. I lean back a little, “you know that it might come down to one of you telling me if he doesn’t.” I say looking through my phone, as I can’t be bothered to even look at them because no one is going tell me anything.

Placing my hand on top of Rhett’s I think about the message from Ed, not being with Rhett is something I know that I can’t do, I mean I flew around the world for him, maybe I will have to live with not knowing his demons.
