EPILOGUE
The day ended with Damara the cralowog being hunted one last time—not for the kill, just for one more capture. She insisted on hunting the cralowog herself, and the Knights brought Burton and Sondra to assist her. Donar and Conran, feeling responsible, were intent on helping her, and Meline, feeling responsible for all of them, accompanied the hunting party.
Damara led the lot of them on a merry chase through a section of forest and then into another open field. Donar and Conran went to dragon form and flew ahead while the three scientists took the point. They managed to get the animal surrounded, with Meline bringing up their flank. Brianne’s heart went out to Damara, who had been harassed and hounded so much, before firing the shot that tranquilized the beast from Torado IV and brought her down.
As Damara lay slipping into unconsciousness, Brianne crouched by her and put her head on the animal’s side, feeling Damara’s slowing breaths, promising Damara from her heart that this would be the last time.
Brianne and her assistants returned Damara to the habitat, which was newly secured against both incompatible organisms and sentient and artificial intruders. Once Damara was settled and given some time to acclimate safely to her surroundings again, the male cralowog was brought in from the Interplanetary Menagerie to join her.
The two animals did not mate right away. Brianne was in no hurry. She would give them all the time they needed, and she and Burton and Sondra would keep a careful watch on both of them while letting nature take its course in the way it rightfully should.
Elsewhere on the Quist property, other mating proceeded—or continued—with much greater alacrity.
In the mansion, Conran and Donar immediately moved Brianne into the master suite with them. Each night, Brianne left her colleagues to take shifts monitoring the cralowogs while she retired upstairs. And each night, she found Conran and Donar waiting for her in the master suite, naked and very, very erect. She stripped naked—or, as often as not, let them strip her—and long into the night they had their way with her as only dragon men could.
Brianne Heatherton had loved nature her whole life. And in the arms and the bed of Conran and Donar Quist she found the part of nature that she loved best, several times a night and a couple of times more every morning. From that time forward, nature was very, very good to Brianne.
