First Time Up: Living Legends Book 3 by Declan Rhodes (10)

Harley

Mo asked, “Do you have a string attached to that balloon so I can pull you down out of the sky?”

I stopped staring at Eric who was busy taking batting practice by home plate and refocused my attention on Mo. We’d decided to toss the ball around in the outfield. I said, “Huh? What? Did I miss something? I’m sorry. I got a little distracted.”

“You’ve got your head up in the clouds somewhere is what you’ve got. It’s like you’re a balloon floating out over the roof of the stadium. I hoped I could reel you back in before game time. Is there something going on that I should know?”

I knew my face had a goofy grin, too. “Oh, it’s nothing. I’m in a good mood is all. It’s an excellent one. I have a reason for it. I’m still batting over .300. Wouldn’t you be excited, too? You’re still leading the league in saves. That’s exciting.”

Mo wasn’t buying it. He said, “It’s not baseball. You’re acting like you got laid last night. If it were baseball, you’d have a bounce in your step. Instead, your head’s in the clouds. Is that what it is? Did you have a hot roll in the sheets? Who’s the lucky lady?”

“I don’t think I can tell you, but it wasn’t last night. It was two nights ago, and I’m still feeling it. Damn, it was good. I’ll do it again, too.”

Mo laughed. “Been there done that. Sex with a new partner is always either so awkward that it’s painful, or it works right, and any weird positions or foot cramps are just part of that awesome cum explosion. It all melts into one. Congrats, Harley. I’m happy for you.”

I tossed the ball to Mo, and he started to back up a couple of steps. I said, “Listen to you, the sex philosopher. Who would have known? Maybe you should do one of those radio call-in shows. You could go on right after Chase. Dr. Mo’s Modern Sex Talk.”

Mo shook his head. “I’ve had some experience, and I can still have a lot of fun with my body in bed even if my arm is getting a little tired. That’s all I’m saying. I don’t hear any complaints from Jack. Although, sometimes I wish I was still as flexible as he is.”

Mo was tall, and I understood how attractive he could be. His body was slim like Eric’s, and I wondered if he had a long cock like Eric, too. I’d never gawked at Mo in the locker room. The more he talked about sex, the more curious I got, but it was just that. I didn’t have any desire to do with Mo what I was doing with Eric. I had my man, and it was hard to stop myself from staring at him. I was sure that Jack was fortunate to have a lover like Mo.

Mo called, “Are we going to throw the ball back and forth, or are you going to think about your dick? There’s a shower in the locker room if you need to rub a quick one out to get your head in the game.”

I tossed the ball to Mo. “Aww, damn, let me enjoy this a little bit without picking on me. I’m not sure a guy gets that many opportunities at stuff this good.” I reached down and adjusted myself just in time for Mo to toss the ball back to me. It was low to my right side, and I missed it. I turned and jogged to the foul line to pick the ball up.

As I bent over to scoop the baseball, I heard a voice say, “Hey, Harley!”

Looking up, I saw Mo’s boyfriend, Jack, standing behind the rail in the stands. He said, “I’m sorry that I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’ve been snowed under with my research and making it to games just a few minutes before the national anthem. I’m Jack, Mo’s boyfriend.”

“He’s pointed you out from a distance before, and no problem. I’ve seen Mo making eyes up at you. He’s a great guy.”

Jack chuckled softly as I heard big feet jogging up behind me. In his deep, rumbling voice, Mo said, “You made it here early, stud! Remember, we’re going out after the game.”

I said, “Oh, with Chase and Aaron and Javier?”

“Yeah,” said Mo. “Eric, too.”

I said, “I’ll be there. I can’t wait.” I looked back up at Jack and said, “We can get to know each other better. Mo told me that you’re working on a very cool research project. I’d love to hear more about that.”

Jack said, “Sure thing.”

Mo said, “It’s great to have another guy going out with us. I was starting to feel a little guilty about us leaving Eric in the lurch. I know Javier often cuts out about halfway through the night. Now, he’s got a buddy to hang with when Chase is busy with the radio or Aaron.”

I wanted to leak the news about the awesome sex with Eric, but I knew that it wasn’t for public consumption. We hadn’t talked at all about coming out to anybody. Everybody knew that we were friends, but our special benefits were our secret. I glanced toward home plate at the moment that Eric jacked a ball over the left field fence.

I said, “He looks pretty happy. He just hit a ball over the fence. He’s proud of this season.”

Mo turned to watch batting practice. “This is a career year for Eric so far, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I hope this is a template for his whole career.”

I nearly bit my tongue stopping myself from adding, “Couldn’t happen to a sexier guy.”

Jack leaned over the railing, and Mo stood on his toes to give him a quick kiss. Mo said, “Time to get back to warming up. How about I race you to the opposite fence, Harley? We can both run off a little of this excess energy.”

I said, “You think you’ll win with those long legs, but I’m quicker, old man. I’ll take the challenge.”

Mo tore out across the field without saying, “Go,” but it didn’t take me long to catch up. Although my high school team was never good enough to make it to a state meet, I ran sprints in track in high school in addition to playing baseball. I blew past Mo halfway to the wall.

As he leaned over his knees trying to catch his breath, I put a hand on Mo’s shoulder and said, “It’s okay old man. You have to give way to the new generation sometime.”

Mo laughed, and in a breathless voice he said, “Yep, I’m blazing the trail and making it safe for the kids to follow.”

He thought he was only talking about baseball, but I knew that he blazed an excellent pathway for Eric and me in the relationship department. For that, I was tremendously thankful.
