Frigid (The Frenemy Series Book 1) by Kate Benson (21)

evie

After a slightly awkward heart-to-heart over lunch with my mom, I took a cab back to Dash’s apartment later that night.

To my surprise, not only was she fine with everything once the shock wore off, she’d also promised not to say anything to Mason.

I wasn’t really sure what to tell her when she’d asked what was going on with us. I mean, how do you casually tell your mother your once-mortal-enemy was now your fuck buddy? Not only that, I knew deep within my heart, regardless of everything we’d said this would and wouldn’t be, things had taken a turn somewhere along the way.

I’d never imagined myself with Dash Hunter.

He was cocky, arrogant, rude and had the worst track record of any man I’d ever met when it came to dating.

He didn’t seem to care about much and the things he did care about were either things I thought were stupid or the only person on the planet who would be against us having a relationship altogether.

Despite the fact I’d known him for more than a decade, he didn’t fit in to any plan I’d ever made for my life, big or small.

Plain and simple, there was no reality where Dash and I would ever make sense, but that didn’t matter.

I’d never imagined myself with Dash Hunter, but now, regardless of how insane he made me, there wasn’t a single part of me that could imagine myself without him.

Now that I’d admitted that surprising truth to myself, I knew I’d have to admit it to him as well.

I wasn’t scared of many things, but being vulnerable with someone who had the power to not only destroy me, but make an ass of me in the process?

That tops the list.

I feel nervous as I knock on his door despite the decision I’d made to say nothing. We hadn’t spoken about things since we got back from our trip and the last thing I was interested in was spilling my guts to Dash and then finding out what I’d thought I’d been feeling was way off. My solution was to wait it out, see how things went tonight and then make an informed decision in the morning, potentially saving myself a heap of humiliation in the process. If I truly had feelings for him I’d know by morning, but if I didn’t, saying something now would just fuck everything up.

The best thing for us both was for me to just wait and see how things went tonight.

I’d texted on the way over to let him know I was coming, so I’m not surprised when he answers almost immediately. He ushers me in, wearing a smile and a pair of low-slung sweats that have my pulse racing.

What the hell is it about a hot guy in a pair of low-slung sweats?

“Hey,” he smiles small, moving away from the door and watching me walk inside before he closes it behind us, securing the lock.

“Hey,” I reply, following him into the large, open space and setting my bag down on the coffee table. “How was your afternoon?”

“It was okay,” he says. “Yours?”

“Fine,” I sigh, turning to face him. “Had lunch with my mom, got my nails done,” I shrug, holding my hand up. “Wanna see ‘em before they’re destroyed with paint?”

“Meh, I don’t really care,” he says honestly, making me laugh as he spares them a second look. “Cool, I guess.”

“Thanks,” I chuckle.

“You want a beer?”

“Sure,” I nod, taking a look around his apartment for the second time today.

The walls are pretty bare, an artist’s nightmare, but the things he did have in here were nice and well-kept. With the exception of a t-shirt slung over the back of his chair and a beer bottle he was still drinking from, it was surprisingly neat.

I’m tracing my finger over the edge of a black frame holding the only picture in his living room when I hear him walking up beside me.

“This is a great picture,” I say quietly, a small smile playing on my lips as I take in the small child, laughing wildly in the arms of his mother. “Is this you and your mom?”

“Yeah,” he replies, his voice low and matching mine before he clears his throat and hands me my beer. “I heard you wandering around in here,” he says, looking away from the picture. “Do you want a tour or something?”

“Sure,” I nod, taking a long sip from the beer, somewhat surprised when he links his fingers with mine and leads me down the hallway.

“It’s pretty basic,” he shrugs. “You saw the kitchen and living room,” he continues, pulling me behind him and using the neck of his bottle to point along the way. “Guest room, bathroom, bedroom,” he says, pushing the door open to the last one with his foot and pulling me inside. “We’ll start in here.”

With that, he uses his arm to pull me closer and rests his palm against the small of my back, burying his lips in my neck. Instantly, I feel lightheaded at his touch and I’m silently thankful when he pulls the bottle I’m holding from my fingers and places it on his dresser.

“How’d you like the tour?” he husks against my collarbone as he runs his hands under my shirt, kneading my breasts.

“You have a nice place,” I whimper, resting my arm over his shoulders as he bends in front of me, pulling the cup of my bra down and closing his lips around my nipple, sucking hard.

“There’s a bathroom in here, too,” he whispers, biting around the barbell and tugging it slightly with his teeth.

“Oh, my God,” I mewl, resting one palm over his shoulders and the other against the dresser I’m currently leaning up against.

“You like that, baby?”

“Yeah,” I nod shamelessly, the feel of his hands slipping into the back of my jeans making my limbs heavy.

“I just retiled,” he rasps playfully, as he unfastens my jeans and peels them away.

“That’s really hot,” I chuckle breathlessly at his words.

“Yeah,” he pants, bending in front of me and teasing my navel with his tongue. “Just call me Bob Villa.”

“You seriously need to update your cable package, babe.”

He smirks at my words as he rids me of my jeans and panties all at once, his eyes dancing over my skin for a moment before his palms grip my ass and he buries his face between my thighs.

He devours me. His tongue dances over my skin, savoring my taste like I’m his last meal and he’s been craving me for months.

He kisses my pussy like he kissed my mouth the night before we left the cabin. Long, torturous strokes running up my center before his lips find my clit and he sucks long and hard.

My thoughts go hazy, my mind goes numb and before long, I feel my legs beginning to tremble and quake beneath me, his strong arms the only thing holding me upright as his name leaves my lips and ricochets off the walls around us.

By the time he licks me clean and rises in front of me, he’s thrown me over the edge again and again so many times, I’ve lost count.

“That’s only the second time you’ve let me hear you scream for me, Evie,” he pants against my lips, so close I can taste myself on his breath, feel the wetness I’ve left behind on his bearded chin. I’m about to answer, to say what in my hazy stupor I don’t know, but his palms gripping my thighs as he lifts me and presses me roughly against the wall behind us cuts me off. “Third time’s a charm, baby.”

He pushes in deep, the combination of the force and his hot breath on my chest making my head fall back. I hook one arm around his shoulders, the other gripping his arm tightly as he slams into me again and again. He lowers his head to taste my neck once more and as he flattens his tongue against my throat, slowly making his way up, my eyelids slowly flutter open and I find him staring back at me.

He husks my name out, his strong grip never wavering despite my now useless limbs. As I begin to clench around his shaft, I feel myself begin to float.

“Dash,” I whimper, his name leaving me like a plea as he continues to hold my gaze. “Kiss me,” I beg quietly. “Please kiss me.”

“Shh,” he croons against my lips, the low mewl setting me free. “Let go, baby.”

As he presses his lips to mine, giving me what I need, I fall over the edge again and again into the abyss until he fills me with a low growl.

With a quick peck on my swollen lips, he pulls us away from the wall and carries me to his bed, the feeling of the broken connection making me feel empty until he pushes back inside me a moment later, stealing my breath once more. My legs instinctively wrap around his waist as he hovers over me, his lips moving over my skin lightly as our breaths leave us in pants.

We come down together and once our breathing has evened out, he raises slightly, staring down at me.

“So, that was fun,” he smirks, making the corners of my lips turn up on either side as he finally pulls out and falls onto his back beside me. “Raise up,” he orders gently, stretching his arm out beside him when I do. “Okay, get in here.”

I rest my head back down against his bicep, silently savoring in the way I fit just right and swallowing hard past the emotion in my throat.

“You hungry? I got a pizza earlier,” he offers. “There’s still some in there.”

“No, thanks,” I whisper, shaking my head.

“Okay,” he shrugs, staring up at the ceiling for a second before he glances back over at me. “I think I’m gonna have some.”

“Okay,” I smile, knowing it hasn’t reached my eyes, watching him rise from the mattress.

He pulls his sweats back up and looks over at me again, his dark eyebrows crinkling together slightly.

“You good?”

“Yeah,” I lie, waving him off. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’ll be there in just a second. I just need to use the bathroom.”

“You should check out that tile while you’re in there,” he winks, grabbing his beer and making his way back out to the kitchen.

I close myself inside the small space, the reflection staring back at me mocking me in silence. I try to wash away my reality as I splash cold water over my face, but it’s no use.

I don’t need to wait until morning.

I know my truth.

Despite my best efforts, it’s happened.

I’ve fallen for Dash Hunter.
