Chapter Thirteen
Greer
The next week was a complete blur. Being away from Tenn was the worst, but it seemed we were doomed never to see each other again. He’d gotten a new job at the local university as a substitute teacher, that much I gathered from his texts. And Jarmin had finally come through on the website for Just One Lick. That meant our online orders somehow surpassed our actual brick-and-mortar ones. Strange how things evolve like that.
I had enough money to hire two people—pastry chefs who had experience with human stuff, but not the dog treats. Still, they were excited to get started, and Bea was excited to sit down for a minute here and there. Soon, I would have to replace her altogether. She was amazing, but it was taking its toll on her at her age.
I called Tenn when I got off work, but he didn’t answer. My self-doubt got the better of me, so instead of going home that night, I stopped at his apartment.
A little desperate, true, but my heart couldn’t take it any longer.
I knocked on the door and waited. I heard footsteps inside, and he answered wearing a gray button-down shirt with a loosened burgundy tie and jeans.
If I had professors who looked like him in college, maybe I would’ve completed my degree.
“Greer? Hey! I was going to...well, I was actually going to go knock on your door. Seems like you beat me to it.”
I beamed. He had planned to come and see me.
“You look exhausted,” I remarked and then regretted it. Most people took the comment to mean they looked like crap, which in this case was untrue. But there were rings under his eyes, and he simply seemed worn-out.
“I am, actually. Come in. Let’s order takeout and chill. I can’t even think straight, but it had been a few days since I’ve seen you. It was killing me.”
I stepped into his apartment and looked around. “It was?”
He wrapped his arms around me from behind. “Yeah, it was rough. And I wanted to ask you to go on a date with me this Friday.”
“A real date? Will there be movies and popcorn?”
He chuckled, and the sound reverberated in my ear. “You bet. And maybe, if you’re a good omega, there will be dessert.”
His dick pressed hard into my ass, and I sensed his meaning wasn’t Sno-Caps at the movies.
“I’ll be good. Let me order some Chinese, and we can chat. You’ve been busy and I want to hear everything.”
We ordered food, ate it up, and sat on his couch for hours. I could see him losing steam, but he kept talking.
“I need coffee,” he said, finally taking his tie off, and I thought of all the things I could do to him with that tie.
“No, you need rest. Go shower and get to bed. I’ll clean up all of this and lock up.”
He groaned. “Or, we could both clean up, and you could join me.”
I giggled. “You said dessert wasn’t until Friday.”
He scooted closer and leaned in. “Well, you’ve been so good to me tonight, I thought I’d oblige you. Let’s clean up the kitchen and then I’m cleaning you up. I saw that blush when I took off my tie.”
We eventually made our way to the bathroom where I was beyond exhausted and he was, too. I wanted to get more than clean with him, but tonight wasn’t the night. All the snuggling would happen.
“How about tonight is just a shower and some cuddling? I can almost feel how tired you are,” I suggested.
Tenn bit down on his lower lip and nodded, taking my hand after we’d shucked our clothes and stepped into the shower.
“That sounds amazing. I’d love to hold you all night. Would that be okay?”
I sighed. It would mean leaving Shrimp alone, but he’d already been taken out and would be fine until morning.
“I have to leave early, but yes, I need your touch, alpha.”
