Just Friends: A Football Romance Story by Amber Heart (60)

Bonus Chapter

The wedding is fast approaching. Eric and Rosalie have been backwards and forwards all week trying to sort all the arrangements. The stress of it all is clearly getting to Rosalie, so Eric decides to surprise her with a really special date.

Rosalie collapsed onto the bed and buried her face in the sheets. “How will I get all this done?” Eric mockingly collapsed next to her and turned to face her. “Same way you always get stuff done.” Rosalie lifted her head and locked eyes with him. “We’re only weeks away from getting married and only half of it is fully planned! Why aren’t you worried yet? Stop being so calm, jeez.” Eric enveloped her in his arms and pulled her in close. “You’re just burnt out, let’s do something else today. No wedding talk and no studying.”

Rosalie’s ears perked up a bit, she hadn’t taken a break since he proposed and she had been studying none stop. A break would be refreshing to say the least. “What do you have in mind?”

Eric pulled out his phone and tapped away at the screen. “It’s a surprise. I’m booking it now. I’ll give you twenty minutes to get ready and then we’re out of here!”

Rosalie jumped out of bed and bolted to the shower, she has mastered her routine now and can be finished within fifteen minutes. After strolling back into the room, she began to straighten her hair. “Can you give me a hint?” Eric looked at her and smiled “We have to drive there.” Rosalie’s eyes rolled to the back of her head “Obviously - we have to drive everywhere! Give me more of a clue.” Eric picked up a pillow from the bed and launched it at Rosalie hitting her straight in the face. “It’s a surprise! I promise you’ll love it.”

She finished straightening her hair and grabbed her coat and shoes. “What shoes should I wear?” Eric was half way through putting his own coat on “You’ll need walking shoes, that’s all I’m going to tell you.” This is so exciting! We made our way down to Eric’s car and he held the door for me. I will never get tired of that, it’s so cute!

Eric walked round the other side and opened the driver door. “I’ve had this day out planned for a week. I think you’ll love it.” I turned to face Eric and planted a soft kiss on his cheek “It’s going to be so much fun!” Eric started the car and away we went. After passing nothing but trees for thirty minutes, we finally arrived at our destination.

Eric pulled over and parked the car. We were in the middle of nowhere, but there was a trail cutting through the forest that looked absolutely beautiful. “Have you been down this trail before?” Rosalie turned to face Eric “Never. If I’m honest I haven’t been down any of the trails around here yet.” Eric stepped out of the car “The weather today is perfect for the spot I want to take you to. I used to come here as a child.”

Rosalie stepped out of the car and they both linked arms and took off down the trail. They strolled gently and admired the view of the surrounding beauty. The birds were singing, the wind was light, and the sun was out. Rosalie rested her head on Eric’s shoulder “Who brought you down here as a child?” Eric looked down at his feet “My whole family. We used to come down here all the time before my Dad hit the spotlight. My Sister and I used to wind each other up while both my parents strolled behind us. My Mother didn’t care who I was dating, and my Dad actually had spare time. I miss those times, you know?”

Rosalie clutched tightly onto his arm “At least we can walk down here together. We can come as often as you like.” Eric planted a soft kiss on Rosalie’s lips. Her body became invigorated and she tingled all over. Eric pointed to a separate path off to the left “Let’s go left down there, it’s my favorite spot.”

As we made our way down, the path began to get steeper until eventually turning into steps. They dragged themselves all the way up before collapsing at the top. Rosalie bent over with her hands on her hips, struggling to catch a breathe “Wow that hill was steep! We beat it though.” Rosalie caught her breathe and turned to face Eric. She found Eric staring off into the distance, enjoying the fantastic view. Rosalie stopped glaring at Eric and followed his eyes.

I can see the whole town up here. The sun is setting on the horizon and with it comes a warm glow. It’s paradise up here. Eric put his arm around Rosalie and she snuggled herself into him. “I can see why you love it so much out here.” Eric smiled and didn’t say a word. They both stood there staring off into the distance pondering life and the decisions they’ve made so far. After fifteen minutes of blissful silence, Eric was the first to stir. “Do you feel like you can take on the world now?” Rosalie hugged Eric tight and giggled “I feel like we can.”

As the sun continued to set, the view slowly disappeared into the night. Rosalie and Eric strolled back down the steep hill and made their way over to Eric’s car. Today was special. We shared an incredibly intimate experience and we both had a much needed break. Eric walked over to the other side of the car and opened the passenger door for Rosalie. Rosalie climbed in and got herself comfy. Within minutes her eyes began to fall as she slowly drifted off. Eric turned to face her and he knew without a doubt that he would love this woman forever. She is the light in his life and he will do anything for her.
