Five Years Later
Eric and Rosalie still live in the dream house that Eric surprised her with. It was empty and unwelcoming at first, but they worked their magic together and turned it into the perfect home. Each room is tailored beautifully to their tastes and has memorabilia scattered around from their exciting adventures. Shortly after moving in, they also decided to adopt a puppy from the local animal shelter. They settled on an adorable Jack Russel and named him Jackie - original.
Training Jackie was difficult at first, he destroyed most of their new furniture and kept them up all night. College suffered a tiny bit, but it was worth it for the love and affection he filled their lives with. When they needed a break, it wasn’t difficult to get someone to look after the pup. Eric’s Sister was always the first to volunteer and she loved taking him back to her home to play in the giant gardens.
When Eric and Rosalie would come to collect Jackie, they’d share pleasantries with both of his parents. His Mother slowly warmed up to Rosalie and eventually she saw Rosalie for the fierce woman she was. Rosalie was even invited to several of her fancy dinnners and dances! Eric and Rosalie would politely decline the invitations due to their studies, but every now and then they would attend and have a fantastic night. They would both dress up and have a royal time. His Mother was the life of the party and was a joy to be around - now that she wasn’t constantly trying to marry him off.
Money was and never will be a problem for Rosalie and Eric. This didn’t stop them from giving back to the world though. Rosalie graduated college with the highest score and became a doctor. She now works in a hospital close to their home and has just started mentoring junior doctors this year. The job has its ups and its downs, but she sleeps easy every night knowing she tried her best and made the world a better place. This is the dream life she had always envisioned.
Eric struggled to find his passion whilst sailing through college. He graduated just fine, but he couldn’t find the direction he wanted to take. Looking after Jackie lit a fire inside him and gave him a new purpose. He decided to use his families money to setup a local animal shelter which he manages and helps out at. They look after abandoned animals and try to set them up with a new owner. They also take in old and sick animals to give them the retirement they deserve. Him and his team have a good thing going on and he couldn’t be happier. Money was the last thing he cared about, he needed something fulfilling and he found it.
Vanessa and Rosalie are still best friends, although they mostly speak over the phone because Vanessa has been traveling since she dropped out of college. It just wasn’t for her, but now she is living life and having fun. Who can fault that? Some of the stories she shares with Rosalie are incredible. The last time she phoned Rosalie, she had a pygmy sloth dangling from her neck on Isla Escudo de Veraguas, a small island near Panama. Now she’s somewhere in Australia enjoying the sun and culture.
Blaze quickly got over Eric and ended up in Hollywood as a hairstylist for actresses. She’s incredibly well known and fought over, sometimes she’s even flown out to places and events. She’s had the chance to travel all over doing what she loves. Can you ask for anything else?
Rosalie visits her family often and she treats them to days out and helps with money every now and then. It’s the least she could do for the life they provided her. Her parents are incredibly proud of her and they live out their lives in peace, happily retired.
Eric and Rosalie have a surprise that they can’t wait to share with their family and friends. For the last few months, they have been trying to introduce a new member to the family. Last week the pregnancy test finally came back positive! They’re going to have a child! Eric is just as giddy as Rosalie and is so eager to share the news with his family. But he is restraining himself for now. They both want to surprise everyone at the same time when they hold a party next week. It’s going to be amazing!
All week they’ve been coming up with names. It took them a while, but they’ve both agreed on Jake if it is a boy, and Lucy if it is a girl. They’ve already cleared out a room for the nursery and started looking at baby proofing the house. Rosalie can’t wait to hear Vanessa scream with joy. She can already picture the look on her face when she finds out - it’s going to be such a fun week!
Eric is unsure how his parents will react, but he knows his sister is going to be over the moon. She’ll want to look after Jackie and the baby all the time, which will really come in handy when they both need a break from crying and changing diapers. Rosalie keeps reassuring him that his parents will be nothing but supportive. He’s just worrying about the old days when they first started dating. There hasn’t been a problem for years.
It’s not going to be easy raising a child, it never is. But Eric and Rosalie have built a very successful life between them and they will try their absolute best. The love and compassion between the two of them cannot be faulted. No matter what happens, you can sleep easy knowing that this child will be adored and supported its whole life. This wonderful duo will go to the ends of the Earth to make sure this child has the life it deserves.
