Not So Casual: Part 2: Bre & Collin #2 (Power Play Series Book 14) by Kelly Harper (1)

Chapter One

Bre couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Was Collin really standing there telling her they needed rules before they go any farther? A lack of rules hadn’t stopped him from having sex with her over and over again since last night

“This is who I am,” he said. “If you don’t like it then we shouldn’t keep doing this.”

It was getting harder to fight back the tears. She hated that a man she barely knew could make her feel like this.

“You’re right. We shouldn’t keep doing this.”

A long moment passed before Collin reacted. Bre hoped he was going to realize that he sounded crazy, but finally he let out a long sigh.

“Fine. If that’s what you want.”

“Yeah, it is. I wouldn’t want anyone to get confused.”

She had to get out of there. She didn’t want to be anywhere near Collin Hayes and his handsome boyish looks. She spun and walked away. She didn’t know where she was going but any place where she didn’t have to see his face sounded good to her.

This was why things with guys never worked out. Single life was just easier. She hated having to deal with all of the emotional bullshit that came with a man’s fragile ego. They could all just go fuck themselves.

After she was done fucking them, of course

A casual weekend of wild and crazy fun was all she’d wanted. She didn’t understand how rules played into that. Couldn’t they just be adults about the situation and do whatever came naturally? Knowing exactly what was going to happen took all of the fun out of it.

“Bre! Wait!”

She could hear Collin jog to catch up to her when she didn’t turn to face him. Luckily for him he fell into step next to her instead of trying to grab her arm. That would be one hell of a way for him to find out about her weekly krav maga classes.

“Bre, I don’t understand what’s happening,” he said.

“Yeah, well that makes two of us.”

“You’ve been making such a big deal about keeping things casual… I thought you’d be onboard with this.”

Why wouldn’t he just drop it? What did she have to do to make him realize that she just wanted to spend some time alone?

She turned to face him.

“You lied to me!” she said, glaring at him. “You told me you don’t usually hook up with women… But apparently you do.”

“Why is it a big deal? It’s not like it’s going to matter after this weekend, anyway.”

“Exactly! So why lie about it?”

“I didn’t want you to overreact like you’re doing right now!”

“I’m not overreacting,” she said, shaking her head. “Lies are what people tell when they have something to hide. I’m very upfront about my sex life and I expect the same thing from my partners.”

Collin took a deep breath and studied her for a moment. He looked like he was still trying to figure her out. When he finally responded it sounded like she had actually gotten through to him.

“You’re not like the other women I’ve been with,” he admitted. “Women don’t usually like a guy to talk about their other lovers, so it’s easier to just pretend they don’t exist.”

Bre’s eyes narrowed, suspiciously.

“You’re not hiding a wife or a girlfriend like Logan, are you?”

Collin let out a laugh. It was full of his annoying, intolerable charm.

“I’ve been single for a while now.”

“Tell me about it,” she said.

He smirked and gave her a sideways look.

“Well, that’s actually one of the rules…”

She cocked her hip to the side and gave him an incredulous look.

“You can’t tell me about your dating life because of your rules?”

“Rule number one: no talking about exes or past relationships,” he recited.

“You actually have a numbered list?” she exclaimed.

Was this the same guy who had made her come so hard last night?

“I’m a numbers guy,” he said, nonchalantly.

Bre rolled her eyes.

“Putting that aside for a moment, I just told you that I like hearing about former partners…”

It was a legitimate complaint, but the only response Collin could form was a dismissive tilt of his head.

“Talking about old traumas like that always has a way of making things… messy. If we’re just having fun, I don’t want to bring any of that stuff into it.”

Bre didn’t really have much of a traumatic past with lovers to bring up, but she supposed he had a point. She liked being able to live vicariously through other people’s relationships—maybe that was why she never felt the need to get one of her own—but she definitely didn’t want things to be… messy.

“Fine,” she said, begrudgingly. She hated conceding a point to him. “What about these other rules of yours?”

Collin studied her before responding.

“Are you sure about this?” he asked.

She hesitated for a moment before finally agreeing.

“We’re both stuck here for the weekend,” she said. “We might as well make the most of it.” Something deep inside her churned at the thought of what Collin had been able to do. It got even worse when she considered what might still be in store for her. “Besides, that tongue of yours is too much fun to let it go to waste.”

A wicked grin appeared on Collin’s face as he slid a step closer.

“Is that so?”

The sudden heat in his voice made Bre’s insides tighten. Damn him. She was still supposed to be upset.

“I’d tell you how I know, but I don’t want to break Rule Number One.”

“You’re so obedient,” he grinned. Collin wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tight to his body. The feel of him engulfing her was intoxicating. “There’s no rules stopping us from testing that theory…”

Oh, God.

Something shifted deep inside her core and officially let her know that they had just passed the point of no return. This was going to happen whether Collin wanted it or not.

“How might we do that?” she asked.

Collin gave a quick glance around before nodding at a nearby door. The growing bulge in his khaki shorts rubbed against her as he did.

“Let’s go see what’s in there. You can test me to see if the rest of me is as good as my tongue.”

Now that was the kind of offer she just couldn’t refuse.
