One True Mate: Bear's Picnic (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Date Night Book 1) by Erin Lafayette (1)

Willow Meadow Kendall sat on the floor in the middle of the giant bedroom. Her heart overflowed with love as she watched the tiny babies crawling all around. She had never seen anything so cute, never thought anything could be so adorable. She’d always wanted babies of her own, and she and Bruin were working hard on making it happen, but until then her niece and nephew Track and Treena were the next best thing.

She put her arm around her sister Ella’s shoulders. She still couldn’t believe she had a sister. Multiple sisters for that matter. Even that was an understatement. It was many, many sisters if she was honest. But it was great. She had never dreamed she could be this happy, this content. Being part of such a big family was pure magic. Hopefully soon she would have a baby of her own, but until then she would spend as much time as possible with her family.

She leaned into her sister. All of that could wait. She was content for now. “They’re getting so big Ella. It’s hard to believe how fast they’re growing.” Ella laughed. “You’re telling me. They’re out of control.”

A laugh rang out from across the room as her other sister Rogue laughed out loud. “Out of control, please. Get a grip. They’re still just babies.” Rogue raised an eyebrow. “And besides, they haven’t set any fires yet. Relatively speaking they’re a piece of cake.” Willow couldn’t help herself, she laughed as Ella stared daggers at Rogue. It was hard to believe that both Ella and Rogue were her sisters. Ella was so calm and composed, always in control of the situation, while Rogue was wild and free and always shooting from the hip. But they both had the same inner strength, the same self-belief and the same drive to protect their mates and their family. Much as they might pretend, maybe they weren’t so different after all.

Ella stared for another second then joined in the laughter, letting the tension drain out of the room. She had a knack for that, a special gift. “That’s true, that’s true. Maybe I should just count my blessings.” She squeezed Willow. “Speaking of blessings, having you and Bruin back is the biggest blessing of all. I know you needed to take your trip, but I hope you aren’t ever gone for that long again. Everyone here missed you.”

Rogue laughed. “Especially Mac. He likes to pretend he’s so big and tough but he’s been moping around like a big baby because his best friend hasn’t been here.”

Willow smiled at them. She was glad to hear it. She was so happy to be home. Beyond happy. The trip had been good but there was no place like home. God it was good to be back. No more hotel rooms, no more strange beds and no more dealing with strangers on a daily basis. The bearen were great, but she had missed her own family more than she could have imagined. “It’s good to be back. And I know there’s a big surprise celebration planned for Bruin’s birthday.” She paused, not wanting to seem ungrateful, but then she realized that if anyone knew what she was thinking, if anyone knew about the special relationship she had with her mate, it was her sisters.

“But I really want to do something special for him, something for just the two of us. It’s the first big occasion since we’ve been together and I want to do something to show him how much I love him. But I’m completely blank. I can’t think of anything good.”

Ella looked at her and smiled. “Aw, that’s so sweet. He’ll love it. Of course we’ll help you think of something.”

Rogue looked up from the babies, taking a sudden interest in rejoining the conversation. She had a wicked grin on her face as she butted in. “Of course we’ll help. But it’s pretty easy with these males…” Warning bells rang in Willow’s mind at the look on Rogue’s face. She wasn’t disappointed as Rogue winked at her before continuing, “If you really want to do something special for him, it’s pretty easy. Just suck his cock until he passes out.”

Ella pulled back, somehow managing to still be surprised and shocked by Rogue even after all the time they had spent together. Willow just laughed though. She expected something like that from Rogue. That was why she loved her. And she knew she might look innocent, and might even seem innocent to her sisters, but if there was one thing she knew it was how to keep her mate happy. She looked back at Rogue without blinking, not giving an inch. “Well, I already suck his cock everyday, so we’re looking for something truly special.”

Rogue laughed as Willow winked back at her. “Touche.” Ella joined in the laughter as well. She shook her head, sighing. “You two are bad.” She pointed at Track and Treena crawling around in front of them. “Anyway, I think these two are a little too young for that kind of talk. Please try not to corrupt them before they can even walk.”

Willow and Rogue both laughed. Rogue shook her head. “Oh all right. But I think they’re going to hear a lot worse growing up around here.” Willow kept laughing, that was definitely true, but she knew Ella needed some reassurance. “I hope not, but I’m sorry. We’ll keep it clean from here on out.” She slowly pulled herself up. “Besides, I need to go. I promised the males I would make a batch of pancakes today and you know that to them ‘pancakes’ means pancakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, biscuits. Basically a whole buffet. If I wait any longer to get started they might send a search party to drag me out of here.”

Rogue stood up with her. “I’ll come with you and give you a hand. Maybe we can come up with something special for Bruin while we cook.” She winked at Willow again. “Or while you cook and I have another cup of coffee.”

With that Rogue grabbed Willow’s hand and pulled her to the door. Willow glanced back. She felt bad about leaving. Two babies was a lot to handle, but Ella was a master at this point. She was already focused on the babies again, totally in her element. Even so, she grinned and waved as her two sisters walked out. “Save some for me!”

Rogue snorted and muttered under her breath, “Not likely with that pack of beasts.” Willow laughed. She had missed her sisters more than she could have imagined. It was good to be home.

Willow stood at the huge island in the kitchen. She loved how the kitchen was set up to have a direct view across the living room, through the giant windows and past the deck to the rolling hills stretching below the house. She could see the lush green forests and meadows covered in summer wildflowers in full bloom. It made her feel like she was truly back home.

She stirred the huge mixing bowl, slowly pouring fresh honey into the batter as she stirred. It was fresh from the bees this morning. Since she had promised a special pancake breakfast she was pulling out all the stops, using all her secrets. She wanted to make sure everything was perfect. She had a reputation to uphold after all. Just a touch of honey though, she would need to save most of it for the syrup.

She laughed as she looked down and the bowl. It was huge. She didn’t have anything this enormous even at the restaurant. But then, she wasn’t feeding a pack of wolves and the restaurant either.

True to her word, Rogue was lounging beside her, leaning on the counter and sipping a cup of coffee. She certainly wasn’t helping, but it was great to have her here anyway. Willow had missed her tremendously. And if anyone was full of ideas, it was Rogue. She was still going on with ideas for Bruin’s birthday surprise, but Willow was only half listening as they got more and more ridiculous.

“You should get him a sports car Willow. Males love those things. Hell, everyone loves them. Maybe I should get one for myself too. Anyway, you should have seen the look on Mac’s face when I gave him the Porsche. He went crazy. Then we ripped around town for hours breaking every law there is and them some. Good thing he’s a cop. And he was fired up that night too. We went straight to the bedroom. Well, the living room first, then the kitchen, then the bedroom. But when we got to the bedroom we didn’t leave all night. And we definitely weren’t sleeping.” She grinned.

Willow laughed. She could just picture Bruin jammed into a tiny Porsche. Or racing around at top speed. That would never happen. He was built for slow cruising in a big truck, thank God. That didn’t deter Rogue though. Her sister just kept going.

“Or maybe you should take him rock climbing. That’s an adventure. Did I ever tell you about how I met Mac years ago rock climbing? That was exciting. That was the first time he rocked my world. I don’t know what I was thinking slipping out on him. I should have locked him down then, but you know, I had things going on.” Willow snorted. She had probably heard that story a hundred times, if not more. And rock climbing? Bruin? Definitely not. That was a disaster waiting to happen. Bears didn’t belong on cliffs. But Rogue kept going, basically talking to herself as she continued. “Now that I think about it, maybe we should take up rock climbing again. Or at least take a short trip. Mac could use a special surprise too. Ha, so could I for that matter.”

Willow broke in, interrupting Rogue’s train of thought, bringing her back to the task at hand before she went completely off topic. The fresh honey and the view had given her an idea. Plus, if she let Rogue keep going she might never get a word in.

“I think I’ve got it. I’m thinking about a picnic. Just a simple picnic. Packing up a special lunch, finding a great spot outside and heading out, just the two of us.”

Rogue looked at her, finally focusing on Willow, then nodding as she listened. “I think that would work. Definitely. It’s perfect for you and Bruin.” Then she laughed, the wicked grin back. “Plus, if you find the right spot, with no one around, you can suck his cock until he passes out.”
