RIDE by Nellie Christine (11)

Bentley ended the phone call as he walked into the bedroom, towel drying his hair with a smile. “Your father seems chill, but he asked me three different times if I was straight.”

Kit looked up from his laptop and nodded. “Sounds about right. Add that to the amount of times he asked me about your orientation this afternoon, and the total count is at a hundred.”

Bentley shook his head. He could tell that Kit’s ex, or whatever Porky was to him, had done a number on him if Kit’s father was this overprotective. “Well, he said he’d be here for me at 9:00 tomorrow morning.” Bentley dropped his phone on Kit’s bed before turning to prepare his place on the floor. “It’s our last night together. I miss you already.”

Kit felt Bentley’s phone vibrate by his foot. “You’ll see me on weekends. Don’t forget you promised to take me out for nasty pineapple pizza.”

“Oh yeah.” Bentley smiled. “I’m going to hook you up with the waiter.”

“No, you’re not.”

“Mhm.”

Kit reached for the phone once it vibrated for a third time. When he saw Zoey’s name, he thought twice about being nosey. Bentley spread his blanket out on the floor and then reached into his duffel bag for a t-shirt.

“Your ex is texting you…”

Bentley turned back to look at him. “Huh? Zoey?”

Kit smiled. “I don’t know any other exes of yours…”

Bentley walked over to Kit’s bed and sat down, accepting the phone from his friend.

[Zoey] Hey. Did you ever find a place to crash?

[Zoey] I probably shouldn’t even casually text you like this since I kicked you out, but I still care, I guess.

Bentley screwed up his face at the messages. “Is she for real?”

Kit looked down at his laptop.

[Zoey] It’s just that I’m at this party tonight. I thought you’d be here since I see Jonah and Noah, but you’re nowhere in sight. I wanted to apologize for how I treated you.

[Zoey] I’m not sorry about asking you to leave. I’m sorry that I let you in in the first place. You didn’t deserve that.

Bentley shook his head as he placed the phone down.

Kit looked up curiously. “Everything okay?”

Sure. Peachy. Bentley smoothed back his wet hair. “I don’t think I want to talk about her.”

Kit nodded. “I understand. But, if you change your mind…”

Bentley stood up and smiled. “Thanks.” He quickly put the shirt on and pulled at the hem. “What are you doing? Want me to keep the light on?”

Kit smiled at Bentley as he turned the laptop around. “I posted the pic we took on the way back on my Facebook page. I’m just watching Tawny and her friends have a conversation in the comments section.”

Bentley grinned. “You posted our picture?”

Kit laughed. “Yes. It’s a cute picture.”

“You caught me mid-laugh. I look like I’m about to die. You, on the other hand, look like a snack.”

“Well, the girls commenting on the picture are begging me for your number. I don’t even have your number.”

“Are they cute?”

“Meh. Might be your type. I’m not particularly into them…”

Bentley looked down at the computer. “Tawny is asking why you haven’t ‘hit it’ yet. That’s a good question. I need to add her as a friend. Maybe she’ll give me some advice.”

Kit laughed. “Oh, Benny. You’d never be the same if I hit it. Now turn the light off.”

“Oh?” Bentley smiled widely. “Do you have any condoms? We could test out this theory right now.” He smiled at Kit’s laughter, shaking his head as he walked to turn off the light. “You always think I’m joking…”

“Go to sleep.”

Bentley sat down on the floor and accepted the pillows Kit tossed to him. “I’ll wait to make sure you go to sleep first. Tomorrow is a big day for you, and I don’t want to wake up at three in the morning to see you wide awake on a fashion blog again.”

“I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep,” Kit told him. “I’m kind of anxious about tomorrow.” He closed his laptop and pushed it away. “I was really good at high school. Straight As, honor roll, all of that. But what if I suck at college?”

Bentley laid down, subtly sneaking his hands into his boxers to adjust himself. It was dark. Kit wouldn’t know. “Oh, hush. You’ll be the best version of yourself here. I can see it in your eyes.”

Kit made a bunch of noise as he turned over in bed. “You sound like you’re about to sleep.”

“After you, Kitten. After you.”

Kit hummed. “I’ll try and sleep then.”

Bentley stared at the ceiling. “Just say the word if you need to cuddle. I’m a bomb ass cuddler, Kit.”

“I’ll let you know then.” After a beat of quiet, “Are you sure that you don’t want to talk about whatever went down with Zoey just now?”

“She pretty much said she was sorry for allowing me to think she wanted me in her apartment to begin with. She shouldn’t have let me in, so she felt bad that she had to kick me out.”

“Wow.”

“Yeah.” Bentley closed his eyes. “I’d never treat her like that, just so you know. I was really into the girl.”

Kit spoke after a few seconds. “Did you love her?”

He had to think about that. Bentley wasn’t sure he ever fell in love. For him, love was what he felt when he soared through the air on his bike. He’d never felt that when he looked at someone. “I believe I could’ve… one day. I hadn’t gotten there with her yet.”

“I see.”

“Have you ever been in love?”

Kit cleared his throat. “No. I want to be, though.”

Bentley nodded, though it was in vain. “Yeah. You will be. Just remember that you deserve the world. If he doesn’t want to give you the world, don’t let him waste your time.”

Kit was quiet.

“I don’t care if he has the world when you meet, either. But if he’s going out of his way to make sure you have what you need, he has my respect.”

“That’s sweet of you to say.”

Bentley turned onto his side. “Well, you deserve it, Kitten.”

The room fell silent once more. Bentley made sure to stay quiet, hoping it’d give Kit the opportunity to fall asleep. He thought about the party tonight, and wondered if Noah and Jonah were having any fun. He hoped they weren’t getting drunk, or doing anything stupid. When he started thinking about Zoey, Bentley quickly shook his head and focused on something positive. The feature on Ride BMX was positive. It’d be live on Tuesday – two days before his preliminary competition, and they’d announce he was going to be competing, so that was going to be fun. People who were fans after his little match-up with Lox would be paying attention. Fans of his father would be paying attention. Bentley closed his eyes. He didn’t want to disappoint anyone.

“Why’d you ask that question earlier?”

He opened his eyes once more. “Which question are you talking about, Kitten?”

“You know the question. About if I’d date someone who’d dated girls. Why’d you ask?”

“Stop thinking about that. I was just curious.”

“But why?”

“Go to sleep.” Bentley pulled the covers over himself and turned in the opposite direction. “It doesn’t matter, because you’re not interested anyway.”

Kit sat up in bed now. Bentley could tell by the creaking of his box spring.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“I can’t sleep. Let’s talk instead.”

Bentley laughed. “Oh my goodness.”

“I’m serious. I can’t.”

“Tell me what happened at that party you went to. The one that made you hate parties.”

“Oh. No.”

Bentley rolled over and stood to his feet. “Can I join you?”

“Come on.” Kit moved back until he was against the wall. “We’re both too big for this bed on our own. Don’t hog all the space.”

Bentley carefully laid down, easing his way underneath the covers. He rested his head on Kit’s pillow and turned to look at him. The light coming from outside was minimal, but it was just enough for Bentley to make out his profile.

“What do you want to talk about?” Bentley asked.

Kit turned onto his stomach. “I don’t know. What do you want to talk about?”

Bentley laughed. “Really?”

When Kit shrugged, Bentley scanned his mind for topics. Maybe they could play a game of 20 questions and get to know one another better.

Kit poked his shoulder. “Are you going to sleep?”

“Not at this rate, Chatty Cathy.”

“Then I’ll stop talking.” Kit kept his promise for maybe twenty seconds before starting up again. “I changed my mind. Let’s talk about sex.”

Bentley’s eyes flew open. He turned to face Kit. “Excuse me?”

Kit chuckled. “You heard me correctly. We can talk about anything it seems. So, tell me…”

Bentley was currently face-to-face with Kit. Kit’s lips looked soft, and his eyes were only slightly opened, and he was dragging the covers higher up their bodies as their toes touched beneath the blanket.

“What’s your favorite thing to do in bed?”

Bentley smirked. “I – Wow, Kitten. Go to sleep. You’ve got school in the morning.”

“Answer me.”

“You answer it first.”

Kit sighed. Bentley folded his hands on his abdomen as he listened to the response.

“I haven’t done much, if you want to be honest. After Paulie and I finally started messing around, it was always the same position.”

Bentley absently let his fingers trace over the small of Kit’s back. “Were you the one giving or… receiving?”

“I always topped,” Kit spoke softly. “He always wanted it from the back. I didn’t mind it. I think I took what I could get when it came to him and me. But when I’m in a relationship, I’m excited to try other things…”

Bentley was quiet.

“Can you answer now?”

“My favorite thing to do in bed is talk to you.”

“Oh, for fucks sake,” Kit said with a smile. “Sexually. What’s your favorite position, or foreplay, or whatever?”

Bentley licked his lips. He couldn’t believe they were having this conversation. Realistically, he’d known this guy for a weekend. Even if they meshed really well, it was still weird. But, he’d literally heard his teammates talk about sex for two hours straight on the bus ride to University of Vegas once. This was innocent, too.

“I love it when my partner rides me. It’s the sexiest thing.”

Kit bit his lip. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

Kit responded as Bentley slid closer to him. “Okay. That’s enough. I’ll stop being a Chatty Cathy.”

Bentley smiled. “Now that my dick’s hard, you want to stop talking.”

“I do have class in the morning,” Kit teased. He smiled when Bentley laughed in his ear. “I’ve always wanted to try riding. I wanted to bottom my first time, too. But the last guy wasn’t okay with doing it.”

“You’re killing me.” Bentley turned over onto his side and took a deep breath. “I haven’t gotten any in a long time. By my standards.”

“I’m sure I’ve got you beat…”

“That’s not the point,” Bentley said, smirking at Kit’s laugh. “I really, really like sex. We can’t talk about this when you’re wearing those thin pajama pants.”

“Gay.”

“Let’s talk about something else.”

Kit nodded. “I agree. Tell me a story. Get creative.”

Bentley thought for a moment. He then began to tell Kit all about the time he and the Fisher brothers snuck out to go on a triple-date with these girls they’d met online. Kit found that funnier than Bentley thought it was, and it was probably because he mentioned that the girls left after they realized that the 20-year-old guys they were expecting were actually pimple-faced 15-year-old guys. And they got in a lot of trouble on top of it all. The next story was one Bentley made up about a little girl who tried blackmailing her brother out of $100, and though Kit fought his sleep, Bentley eventually talked until he drifted off. He smiled, deciding to stay there until he was certain Kit was fast asleep.

??

“Dude?”

Bentley moved closer into the warmth he felt. He hadn’t slept this amazing in so long.

Then he heard Noah’s voice. “Hey. Bentley…”

He slowly opened his eyes. Above him was his best friend, and Noah looked more confused than anything.

“Dude… you’re like…” he trailed off, gesturing to him and Kit.

Bentley turned his head. Kit was pretty much on top of him. His hand was clutched in Bentley’s shirt as he slept. Best of all, Bentley had his hand underneath Kit’s tank top.

“What the hell happened?”

“Nothing,” Bentley said. “He couldn’t sleep, so we were talking –”

“Literally doesn’t look like ‘nothing,’ Benny –”

“I swear. Nothing happened.” Bentley pulled his hand from beneath Kit’s shirt. “We just fell asleep.”

Noah shook his head. “Ok. Whatever. As long as you don’t hurt him, we won’t have a problem.”

Bentley watched Noah walk over to his side of the room and drop his keys onto his desk. He straightened Kit’s shirt and tried to loosen the boy’s grip on him, but Kit mumbled for him to stop.

“Don’t wake him,” Noah said. He then pulled off his shirt and collapsed onto the bed. “Goodnight.”

Bentley shook his head at his friend and got comfortable. This wasn’t a big deal. Right? He and a friend were talking, and they’d fallen asleep together. Bentley ignored the way his heart began to race and the way his cock stiffened as Kit sleepily nuzzled closer into his side. He licked his lips and sighed.

“Goodnight.” ‘

Noah hummed. “Yeah.”
