I’d met a lot of Omegas in my life. Some of them I even liked quite a bit. None of them had ever made me feel like my heart could literally be ripped out of my chest.
That’s the way I felt about the possibility of losing Damien. Even though it wasn’t rational at all, I hated myself for not being there to protect him. A nurse came in and said that they had to run some tests. She asked if I minded going to the waiting room.
“I’m going to go grab a shower,” I said. “I’ll be in the waiting room after that.”
“Thank you, sir,” she said.
I headed back to my room to shower and change. One look in the mirror told me I was going to have to get outside and get some sun soon. I figured it was fitting because it’s how I would feel if Damien didn’t wake up.
When the shower water was hot, I stepped in and tried to let the steamy spray wash away my tension and worry. The drops hit like little pinpricks until my skin adjusted to the heat.

I had to wonder if I hadn’t saved his life, would he even have given me the time of day? I could see him smirking at me and trying to blow me off, but there was that one thing that neither of us could deny.
I didn’t want to let myself think about it. I’d heard it all around me for as long as I could remember, but the concept of fated mates seemed ridiculous to me. Well, that was until I met Damien.

I was an idiot. When I walked into Damien’s room, his shoulders fell and a look of disappointment clouded his face.
“Oh, I thought that my assistant had finally gotten here,” he said in a huff.
