Sublime Vanity by Arden, Dana (25)

Chapter 33

Trigger

It’s enlightening how a few hours can be. After I’d left the hospital, the police had arrived wanting to ask Albin questions about his daughter. Her possessions included a wallet with multiple identifications, checkbooks registered to people we’d never heard of and a fake baby bump equipped with interchangeable pillows as the months progressed. I guess we’ll never really know if she was ever pregnant and possibly lost it or if it was all a ruse.

After the little impromptu investigation by the police, they found out that Serafina Breaux and her multiple identities were wanted in four different states for identity theft.

I felt bad for Albin. He knew his daughter was a master manipulator, but at the lengths she went to portray that she was pregnant, he’d have never imagined. After everything was said and done, Albin took Lyla back to Louisiana where they could both grieve and move on from the destruction his daughter had brought about.

Chaotic’s ol’ ladies were just as confused to learn that she was that disturbed. Sadie had a great life in Cumming and there was no need for the theatrics. She had stability and a man who loved her, but it was never enough. They started throwing around their assumptions. They went through numerous mental disorders until they settled on possibly two, narcissistic personality disorder and cluster B personality disorder. Don’t ask me what the fuck the difference is other than if you looked up narcissism in the dictionary there’s probably a picture of Sadie.

What did Razz say? Right, vain and self-loving, but she, also, threw out there that a lot of the traits of a narcissist can be brought on by shame and Sadie probably was inflicted with plenty of shame.

It’s been two weeks since the emotional rollercoaster ended. Razz is still guarded when it comes to some of the brothers and their women. I know Banshee’s words are still filtering in and out of her head. There’s only so many times I can tell her that this wasn’t on her and that someway somehow it would have happened, the endgame might have just been different.

What do they say about time and pain that it heals. I’m sure it will lighten eventually, but none of us will ever forget the events that played out.

It’s January and feels like Fall in most places. Have to love the Georgia weather. Dad wants to have a get together to reunite the Chaotic’s and lift our spirits. He invited the Rioting Devil’s hoping that Banshee seeing Razz and doing that apologizing he said he would will lighten the burden on Razz’s shoulders.

She’s stuck to my side like glue since we arrived an hour ago and I’m pretty sure if I went to take a shit she’d follow me. She’s not comfortable here like she once was. She doesn’t have much to do with Dani or Lily. She’s cordial to my mom and Greer. It’s disappointing because they’ve always been close. I find she spends a lot of her time at the Pretty Pinks’ Clubhouse when she’d normally be hanging with the Chaotic’s ladies.

I don’t mind because she’s been able to find comfort in talking with Bellamy. Bellamy has a way of shifting the focus when most of us would just question why. She makes Razz think outside of the box and sometimes it’s a godsend and others I see more doubt creep behind her eyes.

I just want my Razz back. I want the prankster. I want the woman that easily gave her love to everyone she meets. That Razz has been missing and the Chaotic’s are feeling it.

“I’m going to grab another beer. You want one.” I ask her and she shakes her head. She doesn’t move to get up just stays in her seat away from everyone taking it in. Going to the bar, I feel everyone’s eyes on me like I have the answers to all the questions. I lift a finger to Toby and he produces a Miller Lite for me. “Thanks, brother.” He nods and I lean my hip against the bar as I take the first sip. I watch as Banshee cautiously approaches Razz. His lips are moving, but she isn’t reacting. Finally, she nods her head, he nods his and he walks away. Not sure if he gave her the apology she deserved, but something is better than nothing at this point.

The door opens and in burst Bellamy, Mauve and Rose with broad smiles and giggles. Bellamy gives a salute and finds Razz sitting by herself. Her brows draw as her eyes come back to mine.

“Why’s she by herself?” She snaps.

“I just came to get a beer.”

She reaches behind the bar and grabs a bottle of tequila. She corners my mom, Greer, Dani and Lily motioning to the empty table at the other side of the room and they follow. She tilts her head to Razz and wordlessly, Rose and Mauve go to her, lift her out of her seat and force her to the table to sit in between Greer and Dani. All three have matching frowns of confusion.

Bellamy slams the bottles on the table and proclaims. “Now, we drink and get this shit out on the table. Then, we get so fucked up we don’t remember our names and pass out.”

I have to cover my snicker at the little pixie taking charge of seven women.

Benny rushes over with shot glasses on a tray and sets each one down. My mom fills them up and exclaims ‘drink.’
