Weapon (Three Blades Book 1) by D H Sidebottom (7)

Euan

Following Elsie into the reclusive cabin, I couldn’t help but drop my eyes to watch the sway of her tight arse. She wore black jeans, and they hugged every fucking delicious curve. It wasn’t hard to imagine exactly what lay under that denim, miles and miles of creamy soft skin, a hot little cunt, and an arse I could bounce my dick off. I smirked, imagining exactly how that smack would sound against her backside.

“Euan?”

Blinking, I looked up and found a pair of huge green eyes gazing at me. “I asked if you had any special dietary requirements?”

Her question was a little strange, and after I continued to stare at her for a moment, she sighed. “Is – there – any – shit – that – might – poison – you?” she asked very slowly.

“I understood you, but forgive me,” I looked around the cosy but plain room, “I’m sure this isn’t a hotel. I didn’t realise I get a menu.”

She glared at me, the fierceness in her eyes making my dick hard. Fuck, this chick was going to make it difficult to do my work with a level head.

“We have a runner fetching us supplies. If you can’t eat gluten or nuts, or dairy, or even fucking salt as the whole world seems to be taking offence to at the minute, then we need to know before Tehni meets up with him.”

This was the strangest setup I’d ever found myself in, admittedly, one of the most stimulating, with four shit hot women and enough kit to take out the whole of Russia stacked in various bags scattered about the place. We had driven through the night, through an entire forest, to the most secluded place in the whole of Britain, and now I was being asked if I had any food allergies. These girls were beyond unexpected.

“I’m good. Although I do get cranky if I don’t pour beer down my neck for a while.”

Why the fuck did it make my cock so hard when she rolled those damn huge eyes of hers at me? I pictured bending her over the tiny kitchen table and spanking the living daylights out of her.

“Well, that’s a given,” Ebony laughed. “All forms of alcohol will be on the hotel menu, sir.”

“And knowing you, so will pussy,” Felicity remarked as she flung her bag down on the sofa.

“Ooh, someone’s in a mood,” Tehni chuckled when Elsie huffed loudly.

“I told you, Els,” Ebony winked as she placed her arm around Elsie’s shoulder and side-hugged her. “Put your pussy on my menu tonight, and I’ll turn that frown upside down.”

“Jesus fuck!”

All heads turned my way when the curses spilt from me.

Holding up my hands, I grinned. “Don’t mind me, ladies. If you need to get your thing on, I’ll just quietly sit in the corner and look away.”

Felicity snorted, but Elsie tutted.

“Seriously, Els. What gives?” Tehni asked softly, the concern on her face evident for her friend.

“I dunno.” Elsie sighed and dropped onto the sofa. She looked up at Ebony with a frown. “Are you sure you checked for any tails?”

Ebony nodded firmly. “All the way, Sister.”

“There’s something… a feeling….” Elsie mused, her frown deepening.

“You’re tired and just worrying about Frank and Sally. We can’t do anything until morning at least. Get some rest tonight, and we'll get cracking in the morning.”

“Yeah, you’re right.” Elsie nodded in agreement and pushed herself off the sofa. “You sure you don’t mind meeting the runner?” she asked Tehni.

“Course not, babe. Go get some rest.”

We all watched as Elsie climbed the steep wooden steps that led to the upper floor.

“She’s exhausted,” Ebony commented with a worried frown, her gaze still on the top of the stairs where Elsie had disappeared. “It’s not like her.”

Tehni nodded to her friend, her stare also moving back to the stairs. “Frank put her through her paces the other night.”

Ebony shook her head. “No, it’s something else. You think it’s back?”

Tehni stiffened, and I tipped my head in confusion. “What’s back?”

Ebony, apparently realising she’d said too much, shook her head and gave me a false smile. “You can take the room at the back, Felicity has first watch, and I’ll bunk down with Tehni in the other one.”

Tehni took a pistol from one of the bags and checked it before slipping it into the inside pocket of her jacket. “I’ll be an hour.”

Ebony nodded and checked her watch for the time. “Grab us some takeaway on your way back, Sister. I’m as hungry as a hound with a tapeworm called Terry!”

Shaking my head at her term, I couldn’t help but chuckle at Ebony’s humour. She was a rare one at that.

“Jesus, Eb! Well, I definitely won’t be getting us spaghetti now!”

Ebony flopped on to the sofa and patted the seat beside her when Tehni left, and Felicity retreated outside to keep watch in the shadows. “So, Mr Sinclair, how long have you been a tracker?”

I smiled. “Oh, a fair few years now.”

“Yet, you also own the largest law firm in the UK. What’s that all about?”

“It’s legit,” I openly admitted. “I happen to like law too.”

“An assassin that endorses the law. Different.”

“You’re very astute, Ebony.” I admired her perceptiveness. I had only divulged my tracking skills and that I had a law degree. No one else I had come across had the acumen ever to see a different side of me.

She shrugged. “I have to be. All Weapons rely on not only their Sisters but on their intuition. We’d all be dead if we were blind to what’s hidden from us.”

Settling back into the sofa, I observed her. Her long blonde hair lay in waves over her shoulders, and the deep cut of her cheekbones gave her a striking look. She was definitely a pretty one, but not what I’d call beautiful. Huge green eyes and long black lashes filled my mind, the epitome of beauty sleeping in the room above us.

“How old were you when you became a Weapon?”

Clicking her tongue, she tapped her fingers on her thigh. “I was seven when Frank took me in.” She sighed, reminiscing. “Mum had been out of it for a few days. She was a crack addict.” She said it so bluntly that I couldn’t help but wince. “I was trying to get her in the shower, but she was being stubborn, violent. She lashed out at me, as was the norm with her, but this time she hit me so hard I fell into the set of drawers that held all her shit. She had some heroin on there, ready for her next small high, and it scattered all over the carpet. She beat me unconscious.” Clearing her throat, she carried on. “I woke in Three Blades the next day.”

“Is it always the mistreated kids that Frank takes in?”

She nodded. “Yes, but it’s not for our benefit, Euan. Frank is manipulative, cunning. We go through rigorous training, as cruel as our families were to us, if not more so. But it’s our life from then on in. As brutal as our training is, we’re all fed and watered, and never want for anything. It isn’t until we reach eighteen that we finally become Weapons, assassins for the infamous Three Blades. Up to our ‘coming of age,’ we’re just apprentices, training to be the best murderers in the world.”

“Christ, that’s some years of preparation.”

She nodded, giving me a small smile. “And that’s why we’re the best.”

“And Elsie?” I asked. “Is she one of the best?”

She chuckled and lifted her brows. “Elsie is the best of the best, the highest Weapon. She soon became Frank’s favourite, her strength and lust for bloodshed gave him a hard cock.”

“What the fuck?!”

She laughed bitterly at my shock. “Oh yes, Frank fucks his favourite girls, Euan. Elsie has been his favourite since she hit sixteen and it wasn’t considered so vulgar for him to take her every which way. And,” she curled her lip, “his tastes are somewhat ‘different’. Elsie’s had the roughest ride out of us all, and not just because of Frank’s interest in her.”

“What do you mean?”

She grimaced and bit her lip. “That’s Elsie’s story to tell, not mine. She…”

An ear-splitting scream bounced off every wall, the sheer terror of it making every hair on my body stand on end.

“Fuck!” Ebony shot off the sofa and darted for the stairs. “Not again!”

Racing up the stairs after her, I slipped my gun from the back of my jeans and prepared for a fight.

However, I skidded to a stop at the doorway to Elsie’s room. Elsie was thrashing about on the bed. Her body was contorting into every position, and the sheer fright on her face made my throat close in. Her long black hair clung to her damp face, and her head was so far back that I wondered how her neck didn’t snap. The sounds that tore from her made the pit of my stomach twist

Ebony, in one single move, snatched Elsie’s writhing body into her firm hold and struck her across the face.

Elsie gasped, dragging air into her lungs as her eyes snapped open. Her body trembled in Ebony’s arms, and she clung to her friend while the ghosts of her nightmare still terrorised her.

“How long have they been back?” Ebony whispered, the pain in her voice loud in the quiet room.

Elsie just shrugged and buried further into her chest. “A while.” Her voice was small, the restriction in her throat making it difficult to speak.

“You should have told me,” Ebony chastised. “We could have helped you!”

Elsie laughed softly, but it was a bitter chuckle. “How, Eb? We know there’s nothing to make them stop.” Finally, Elsie’s gaze moved to me where I stood in the doorway watching their exchange with both intrigue and sadness. Those large green eyes once again rolled upwards, and she huffed. “For fuck’s sake, do you get everywhere?”

“I thought you were being attacked!”

She tutted, the fierceness in her eyes drowning out her previous terror. “And if I was, I don’t need to rely on you to come rushing in on a white horse!”

“Elsie,” Ebony warned. “He was just trying to help.”

“I don’t need no fucking help!”

“I get you’re grumpy, Elsie…” I placated, sensing the fear still coming off her in waves.

“Grumpy?” Her eyes fired with anger. “Yeah, I’m one grumpy fuck!”

Ebony sighed and gave me an apologetic look. “You go crash, Euan. I’ll sort Elsie.”

Nodding, I took another glance at Elsie. The look in her eyes made my heart stutter. Gone was the bold, tough woman that had faced me seconds before, and in her place sat a timid and scared girl. Panic flooded from her, and desperation begged for help in the shimmer of her tears.

I smiled, giving her a nod and telling her that it was okay to take out her shit on me, I could take it. At that moment, I would have taken anything to rid that look of helplessness from her beautiful eyes.

Seeing the glimpse of understanding in my stare, she winced as though I had physically struck her, and turned away from me, rejecting my offer.

I quietly closed the door behind me, but I stood for a while, listening to the sad tears of the strongest woman I’d ever known. It seems she was human after all.
