Body Heat by Mia Ford (27)

Chapter 12

Laying there, holding her under the stars was like a dream come true. I didn’t know that I was going to invite her to spend the night until it popped into my head. It wasn’t like I knew she was a virgin when I saw her last night, or when we went swimming this afternoon. All the fun that we had getting to know each other and all the fun that we were going to have the future made me feel alive inside and out, replaying the way we had made love it was the first time for her but it was the first time for me with her and I couldn’t wait for the second and the third. However, many times we made love, it was always going to feel like the first time.

We were quiet just staring up at the stars and I thought that she was taking it all in like I was until I heard her soft snoring and realized that she was sleeping. I looked down at her, covered her up so that she wouldn’t be cold and laid there for a little while longer. Just taking everything in and how much fun we were going to have with each other.

She had a hard time telling me that she was a virgin, I think because she was scared of what I was going to think of her but it was the first of many times that she would come to me with whatever was bothering her or with whatever fear she had in the back of her mind and I was going to be there, waiting and listening to what she had to say. I was going to help her just like she was going to help me get through the hard times with each other.

The more I thought about us being together the more I liked the idea of it, we lived right next to each other, I was the boy next door and I knew the more I got to know her the more I was going to fall in love with her and it made me feel as if I was complete.

I don’t know what time I fell asleep that night but when I woke up the sun was shining and the birds were singing in the trees. We were lucky it didn’t rain throughout the night but I smiled when I saw that she was still there with me. That she didn’t wake up and decide to go home because she was cold or because the night was over.

“Are you awake?” I whispered to her, hearing her groan and watching her as she threw the covers over her head I couldn’t help but laugh at her.

“We have to get up, I know that I have to call my father and let him know that I’m not going to make it in today. I promise I will go in tomorrow.” I told her quickly when she threw the covers off her head and glared at me.

“He’s going to be so mad and that’s only from what you’ve told me.” Linda sat up and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.

“He’s not going to do anything, he can’t fire me. I’m his son and he knows that I do good for the business when I’m there.” I laughed, shaking my head.

She was more worried about my father being upset with me than I was but I didn’t want to waste one minute without her. I wanted to be with her all the time, making plans and laughing at the silliest things that came to mind.

“I don’t have to work today, but I do tomorrow so whatever you have planned for today we should get out there and do it.” She told me, looking around for her sweatpants and sweatshirt.

“They’re under the blankets at the end of the bed. I learned a long time ago that even if it doesn’t rain the dew is going to get your clothing wet as if it had rained.” I told her, seeing that she looked frantic for a minute.

“Thank you.” She smiled, reaching all the way down to the foot of the bed and finally managed to pull her pants on and throw her hoody over her head and slip her arms through.

“We didn’t stop in at the house to have anything to eat. Glenda probably had the cooks working double time to have something ready for dinner.” I stated, remembering that Glenda had offered us dinner but now it was too late.

“We can go over and have breakfast at least, it will take a while for breakfast to be ready I’m sure but I have to take a shower anyways and get on some clean clothes.” She told me, getting up off the airbed and wincing in pain.

“Are you okay?” I asked, reaching out for her in case she fell.

“Yeah, a little sore but nothing that a shower can’t fix.” She smiled down at me.

I didn’t know why she was just standing there, I slipped my shorts on and that’s when I realized that she wanted me to go over to the house with her.

I wasn’t used to having a female there with me all the time. Someone who wanted to spend time with me and not just leave when I stopped handing out the money. I was going to have to get used to a woman who could get things for herself, think for herself and not worry about messing up. Always I had gone for the sensitive girls who only cared about themselves but right from the start, from the moment that I set eyes on her when I rang her doorbell I knew that she wasn’t going to be like the rest of them.

“I was right.” She whispered, looking up at the tree.

“What were you right about?” I asked, looking at the same tree as she was and it clicked in my head she was looking at the lilac trees and realized where I had gotten the flowers.

“If you can’t take the time or the little things there’s no way you’re going to take the time for the big things. I picked them and found a vase to put them in.” I nodded my head, seeing how happy she was.

We walked out of the back yard and around to the front of the house, I took her hand in mine as we left my yard and entered hers.

She didn’t have to worry about answering the door, it was as if Glenda was keeping an eye out for her when we got on the porch the door opened and Glenda popped her head out with a smile on her face.

“I thought you two were coming for dinner last night?” Glenda asked, glad to see that Linda was home safe.

“Sorry, I should’ve called. We changed plans and ended up sleeping outside under the stars.” Linda smile.

Linda and Glenda shared a look, one that said Glenda knew what had happened last night but she didn’t say anything. It looked as if Glenda was a woman who knew how to keep her mouth shut and only open it when it was just the two of them.

“It’s alright, I do have breakfast ready for you. I knew that you were going to come home when you were hungry.” Glenda winked at her and moved out of the way so that we could come into the house.

The food smelled good, I guessed what we were having before we even went into the dining room. There were eggs and bacon, there were bowls of fruit, and coffee sitting on the table. It was a much larger table than we had when I came over for dinner. I could see why it looked as they were feeding an army.

“This looks really good,” I stated, pulling out a chair for Linda and then sitting down myself. I could hear my stomach growling as I took in the aroma of the food that was all around us.

“Do you want to join us?” Linda asked, looking up at Glenda.

“No, I already ate. I have some cleaning to do.” Glenda smiled at her and turned slowly to leave the room.

Linda took a bowl of fruit first and started eating the strawberries out of it before putting the bowl back down. Another thing that I found out was that she liked strawberries. It had to be her favorite because she didn’t pick up the bowl again during breakfast.

I made a mental note of it, she didn’t have to tell me everything verbally. Just watching her, seeing her reaction to different things I could tell what she liked and what she didn’t like.

“Are you going to eat?” She asked, looking at me and seeing that I hadn’t touched anything on my plate.

“Yes, I just wanted to see what food you were going to eat first.” I laughed, watching as her face grew red because she didn’t know that I was observing her.

Chapter 13

I was surprised that he was watching what I ate. I never had a man be so involved with me, seeing what I liked to eat and seeing what I didn’t like at all. Finding out more about me without speaking a word between us.

When I looked at him, I saw the man that I saw last night, he was caring, kind and gentle with me until I wanted him to be a little rougher with me.

I had a dumb smile on my face as I thought about last night, it would be a night that I would always remember, a night that I would always cherish and because he had taken his time with me I knew he wasn’t into rushing anything. He wasn’t like most men who wanted one thing and left when it was over.

He could’ve told me that he didn’t want to have breakfast with me, he could’ve told me that he had to go to work instead of not showing up and catching more hell from his father but he didn’t, he showed me that he wanted to be with me, showing me that he wanted to spend time with me by risking his father getting mad at him, it was a touchy subject yesterday and I was sure it was still a touchy subject this morning. Something that I wasn’t willing to bring it up and risk putting him in a bad mood.

The more I thought about last night the more the wider my smile got as I took a sip of the coffee that was poured for me.

“What’s that smile for? What are you thinking?” He asked me.

I blushed and I didn’t have to tell him, he already knew but he wanted me to tell him verbally. I could see his eyes challenging me.

“I’m thinking about last night, how wonderful it was, how amazing it was. It’s almost as if you’re still inside me.” I leaned over the table and whispered to him.

He laughed lightly and my heart almost stopped beating, the way his eyes smiled at me, the way he leaned closer to me and we were just inches from each other’s face.

“We can always go upstairs and have a replay of what happened last night.” He murmured to me, giving me a wink.

“I have to take a shower.” I laughed at him, shaking my head.

I knew we had all day to do what we wanted, we had all day to decide how much fun we were going to have with each other.

“I can wait, I’m not in any hurry.” He took my hand and kissed the back of it.

He held onto my hand as he ate breakfast, his hand was warm and soft. He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb and we both finished breakfast just like that. Holding hands with smiles on our faces.

The maids came into the room just on cue, as if they were standing outside the door for us to be done. I pushed my plate away and two maids came to take the dishes from us. They took the food that we didn’t eat back into the kitchen to put it away for leftovers. They knew how much I didn’t like to waste food knowing that there were people who didn’t have enough.

“You figure out what we’re going to do today while I go up and take a shower,” I told him, letting go of his hand turning away from him.

I looked at him over my shoulder to see if he was looking at me, he was, he gave me the wink that made my body come alive and I walked out of the room, up the stairs and into my room to grab a white sundress to wear that day. Wherever we were going, whatever we were doing I wanted to make sure I was wearing light colors because it was going to be another hot day.
