Bearly Falling by Ally Summers (61)

Savannah

We spent a week in the honeymoon suite as I liked to call it. It was difficult making sure Oliver didn’t deplete his energy every day, but each day that passed he seemed to grow stronger. I realized that first night after he got his infusion of magic, I shouldn’t have slept with him, but he was seductive and convincing.

I also wasn’t prepared for what else that night brought us.

I was pregnant.

Oliver drank a cup of coffee and read the news on his tablet. He looked up as I walked in from the bathroom.

“You ok?” he asked.

The morning sickness had hit me suddenly. The only thing that seemed to keep it at bay was more magic.

I nodded. I wanted to save my daily dose for tonight. I at least had to make it to lunch time.

I collapsed into the space next to his chest.

“Can you please tell your son or daughter not to make me so sick?” I whined.

“Gladly.” He slid his hand to the swell of my stomach. “Listen up in there, little cub.” He had a silly grin on his face. It was sexy and cute. “Stop giving mama bear such a hard time.” He looked at me. “Do you think that worked?”

“Absolutely not.” I laughed. I slid into his arms, pulling the tablet from him.

“I was thinking about having Charles pick me up in a little bit and flying for awhile.”

“You can’t be serious.” I sat upright.

“Dead serious. I have to replace your land with something else. I want to get started.”

I shook my head. “No way. You need to recover. You almost died.”

“I have recovered. There is nothing wrong with me. Look.” He pointed to the side of his abdomen. The only trace of the massive wound was a thread of a silver scar. It was amazing how he had healed.

I didn’t want to admit that he was right. I didn’t want to let him out of our suite. I liked living like this. It wasn’t the luxury. It was being locked away from the rest of the world, and feeling safe. Taking care of each other. Loving each other. Healing each other in a way that I didn’t know was possible.

And I was just getting used to the idea that the love of my life was a bear shifter and I was carrying his child. Inside me was a half-bear baby. It was a lot to take in. If I opened those doors and let Oliver go back to work, all this bliss would be over. The real world would invade us.

“You can come with me if you want.”

“Oh no.” I shook my head. “Flying while having morning sickness. No way.”

“Sorry.” He winced.

“I’ll be ok. I guess I should head to the cabin or something.” I didn’t know what I was supposed to do if he wasn’t here.

“You don’t have to go to the cabin. I think Grayson is going to fly with me. Why don’t you and Sienna do something together?”

I did love my new sister-in-law. “Ok. I can check with her. And Grayson is going?” It made me feel better that he would have someone with him, even though he didn’t need it. Oliver was strong. He was healthy. And I had to face it—he was full of magic.

“I’m sure he is. He’s starting to get a little stir crazy.”

“Is that why you want to leave?” I felt a pang of hurt.

He smiled. “No. I don’t want to leave you. But I do have to do what’s best for our family. I can’t lock the world away forever.”

“Then maybe I should go to Denver today. I’ll see if Sienna wants to go. She might have some ideas for the skating rink.”

“Really?”

I nodded. “Yeah. Really.”

“In that case…” He carefully lifted me from his lap and walked to the bedside table. He returned with a key in his hand. “Here is the key to the rink.”

I took it, feeling the cool metal in my palm.

“Savi, what made you change your mind?”

I pressed my hand to my stomach. “I want our baby to be proud of me too. I already know he or she is going to be so proud of their father, but I want to show them I didn’t give up either. I am going to skate again.” I looked at him. “After the baby comes. I will.”

He grinned. “I can’t wait to see you on the ice.”

I looked up at him. “It’s all because of you. I thought you barreled into my life ready to destroy it. I thought you wanted to take everything from me, but it was exactly the opposite. You’ve given me everything.”

He dropped to his knees. “I love you, Savi.”

“I love you too.”

He cupped my face with his hand. He looked at his watch. “I don’t have to meet Charles for another hour. How about a little shot of magic?” He waggled his eyebrows.

I nodded. I was suddenly breathy and every part of me wanted him. “Yes, please.”

He grinned, scooping me in his arms.

“I think we’ve passed the just once a day rule.”

I giggled. I was done arguing with him. “I completely agree.”

He carried me to the bed where he loved me over and over. My life would never be the same. And it was exactly how I wanted it.
