Austin

Owen fidgeted as we waited outside the judge's chambers, but I was remarkably calm. I figured this whole marriage thing was no biggie—as long as my brothers didn't catch wind of it. Knowing them, they'd try to make a big deal out of it.

As if I'd conjured them, Kyle and Dallas walked around the corner no sooner than the thought had crossed my mind. I winced when Dallas did a double-take and rushed over to say hello.

"What are you doing here?" Dallas looked around, his eyes curiously lingering on Owen for a moment before returning to me. "You'd better watch out, this is the part of the courthouse where people come to get married, and we all know how you feel about that."

Deflecting, I tilted my head to look at the paper in his hand. "Forget me, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at your gym lifting some weights or showing some dudebro how to bench press right about now?"

Kyle hooked his arm through Dallas', leaning his cheek against my brother's shoulder. "Dallas needed to update his business license anyway, so we figured it was a good time to add my name to it. Seriously though, you didn't answer your brother. What are you doing here? Are you doing something for the TAB foundation? If so, you’re probably lost, hon. I can point you toward whatever area you should more likely be waiting in. I’m here so often getting event licenses, I think I know it like the back of my hand at this point."

"No, I'm good, Kyle. Thank you." I smiled at Kyle before rolling my eyes at my brother. "Shit, Dallas. How long have you guys been married? And you're just now adding your husband to your business license?"

Dallas chuckled, turning to kiss Kyle's cheek before answering. "If it helps, my name isn’t on his business license for the catering, either. We've just never gotten around to adding him to the gym before now. Every time we've started to do it, something's come up. But we had a free day, so here we are. Now quit trying to sidetrack me and tell us what you’re doing here."

Kyle gasped and pointed at the marriage license sitting in plain view between us on the bench. "Why Austin Logan, you sneaky little devil! Are you seriously trying to secretly get married behind your family's back?"

Dallas' jaw dropped and he surged forward to grab the paper before I could stop him. His eyebrows shot straight to his hairline as he quickly read the document. "Holy shit, you really are getting married." He set the paper back down after a long moment and turned to hold a hand out to Owen. "Forgive my rude brother for not introducing us. I'm Dallas, the good-looking brother. And this sexy hunk of man next to me is my best friend and husband, Kyle."

"It's nice to meet you guys." Owen grinned cheekily. "I'm Owen, the soon-to-be husband that Austin apparently plans to hide in the closet."

I groaned as Dallas and Kyle started laughing. "All right, you guys have had your fun. I suppose it's too much to ask for you to not broadcast this to everybody?"

"Are you kidding?" Kyle held up his phone. "I’d already snapped a picture of that marriage license and sent a group text before Dallas even finished reading it."

Kyle hadn't even finished his thought before Dallas' and my phones both started ringing. I groaned as I answered mine while Dallas merely flashed me a wink and sent his to voicemail. The bastard. "Yes, Beau, I'm getting married. No, Beau, I'm not drunk," I answered without preamble.

"What the fuck, Austin?" Beau growled in my ear. "Were you really just going to sneak off and get married without telling anyone? You were just here to see baby Rose yesterday! You didn't think of maybe saying something to us then? We're your family, Austin. So let me repeat myself, what the fuck?"

Before I could answer, my phone beeped with an incoming call. I held the screen out to look at the caller ID. Houston. Of fucking course. I flipped Dallas off, but he just laughed and ignored me as he walked over to squat beside Owen to chat. "Hold that thought, Beau. The brat's beeping in."

"Get rid of him, I'll hold," Beau growled.

I simply rolled my eyes and switched over to the other call. "Hey, brat. I'll tell you what I told Beau. Yes, I'm getting married. No, I'm not drunk. There, you're caught up to speed. Now let me go so I can get rid of Beau who's still holding on the other line. The judge will be calling us in soon and I'd rather not be dealing with you fuckers when he does."

"Austin Logan, don't you dare switch back to Beau until you answer one question," Houston said with a snarl, then took a breath and softened his voice. "Just tell me you're going to be gentle with that poor boy and that you didn't do anything silly like making him sign a prenup or something."

"That's not a question, that's you telling me what you want to hear me say." I couldn't help but grin. "Of course I'll be gentle with him, I’m not a dick. I’m doing this for him, Houston. And as for a prenup, he's already signed one—at his insistence."

"Really?" Houston's shriek had me pulling my phone away to rub my ear. "Isn't he just the sweetest thing ever? Oh, honey. I hope you know we are keeping him—even if you don't. I swear I could just scoop that boy up and eat him like ice cream."

"Houston, you're not going to be eating my husband—think about how that sounds, hmm? I'm pretty sure that Cody won't be on board with that idea either. As for calling him a boy, you do realize that he's a couple years older than you, right?"

"Bitch, please. Being a boy has nothing to do with age. He’s a gentle soul with the heart of a boy, you can see it in those luminous gray eyes of his." Houston tutted before continuing his lecture. "I'm just going to have to take him under my wing, that's all there is to it. Fine, be a jerk. I'll let you go, but just realize and accept that there will be a dinner party and reception tonight at your house to celebrate your nuptials and to let the family meet our newest member. After all, we Logan men stick together."

"All right," I groaned. "Just let me know what time you’re planning to show up. I'll tell Owen the good news." I tried to click over to Beau, but he was already gone. I turned to Owen and shrugged. "My family is nuts; I'm sorry. Apparently, we are having a dinner party and reception tonight, or so Houston just informed me."

"I know, Kyle was just telling me about it. Don’t worry, it's cool." Owen smiled. "I like Houston and Cody. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone else. Remember, I've never had my own family, so I've always been intrigued by other people's. It’ll be fun to borrow your family."

Dallas and Kyle both looked so starry-eyed as they gazed rapturously at my soon-to-be husband that I nearly threw up in my mouth. Kyle surged forward and wrapped Owen in a hug. Owen looked stunned, but seemed to gather himself quickly enough as he awkwardly patted Kyle's broad shoulders.

"You have family now," Kyle said with a loud sniffle. “We’re all going to be your family, Owen.”

"Yes, we certainly are," Dallas said, glancing over toward the judge's chambers. "I hope you know that we’re hanging around to watch you get married, Austin. You don’t get to do this without at least some family present. You'll need witnesses anyway."

Kyle finally pulled away from the hug and turned to hug Dallas; the big sweetie was all emotional now. Owen pulled on my sleeve, yanking me down to whisper in my ear. "You have to tell them that this is just a fake marriage. They think I'm going to be their family, Austin. Not cool."

"What are you talking about?" Dallas asked, obviously having heard the whisper. "It's not fake, we saw the marriage license with our own eyes.”

I tried my best to keep the explanation brief. "Owen can't get insured because apparently pregnancy is a pre-existing condition. I'm marrying him so he can get insurance coverage for himself and his son. That's why I wasn't making a big deal out of this today. It's strictly a marriage of convenience."

Dallas shrugged. "So what? You’ll be legally married, right?" He looked at Owen, who was blushing the most fetching shade of pink I'd seen yet on him. "And Owen, you’re changing your name to Logan, right?" When Owen nodded, Dallas waved a hand. "Then you're going to be part of our family. Simple as that. Whether or not you guys choose to consummate your marriage is your own business. I don't invite you into my bedroom, so I don't need to know what happens in yours. And please, don't ever feel like you need to volunteer the information.”

I wanted to kill my brother when he playfully waggled his eyebrows at us, but thankfully we were called into the judge's chambers before I did anything stupid. Although Dallas and Kyle were probably disappointed, I was pleased by how efficient the process was of getting married. It was a simple matter of signing the marriage license after we'd both waived the recitation of the vows and answered a few questions.

Right as I was thinking about how happy I was with how easily everything was going, the judge lifted his pen without signing. "Before I make this official, let me be the first to congratulate you on your marriage. You may now kiss your groom." He smiled indulgently, the tip of the pen hovering over the marriage document while he waited for us to kiss.

When Owen almost imperceptibly nodded his permission, I darted in for a quick kiss. But the moment our lips touched, the kiss got away from me for a second or three—lasting just long enough to leave me reeling.

When I pulled away, I blinked stupidly while Owen blushed all over again. A flash of bright light hit the corner my eye, and I turned to see that a teary-eyed Dallas had just snapped a picture. I'd bet my left nut that he'd taken at least one picture during the kiss too.

Family. Dammit. Despite my promises to Owen, I had a bad feeling that our marriage of convenience was about to get a little inconvenient now that my brothers knew about it.
