Show Stopper: A Single Dad Bodyguard Romance by Amy Brent (41)

Chapter 6

The clock on the all reads twelve fifty five. I know that I will hire Jasmina. That is not the question. I know that girl better than her own father, and I know she is a hard worker. I take a sip of my water. The cool clear liquid runs down my throat. Am I nervous? That’s ridiculous. I pause and glance at the door. Once I found out she is coming in I really didn’t focus on much of my other work..

I can see the secretary spot through my office doors. Soon every day I will be able to look up and see Jasmina sitting there, doing her job and helping me. We will be so close. I can’t wait for that. Why? I shake my head. A few email notifications light up on my phone. Jasmina is on the of the hardest working people I know. She flew through school with ease. I remember how much I had struggled with my studies. And it was not because I was a slacker. Mark never helped Jasmina either. She just got it. She was the type of kid that can learn a complex idea in a matter of seconds. She can easily get a better job than being my secretary, but it will still be good experience for her. I am not sure If she worked much when she was in college. Probably had too. Mark is never one to just hand out money to her. He was super stingy with Jaz; as soon as she could work he probably got her a job.

I take another long sip of water from the glass. And clear my throat. I hear the sound of the elevator open, but I cannot see it. Then she appears in my line of vision.

At first I don’t even recognize the young girl I would play part cheesy and games like mouse trap with all day and night with Christian. No that girl is clearly gone, and in her place is a tall beautiful woman, fully developed into a capable and complete being.

We make eye contact through the window and she flashes me a big smile. I try to smile back, but I am so taken aback by her sheer beauty my mouth hangs open, and I try to focus. Her long legs reveal themselves out of a tight skirt, hugging her curves. Her blouse is tucked in but it is just unbuttoned enough to reveal the black lace of her bra peeking out.

The glass door swings open. Jasmina walks in. I feel that my mouth is almost dry. I take a deep breath as the door closes.

“Can I hug you?” she asks.

Of course that would be the first thing she wants. I smile and sit back behind my desk.

“Maybe not today. I don’t know if it would be very professional.” I cough as I clear my throat.

“Okay,” she smiles, “We can professional. So, thank you for seeing me today.”

“ Of course. Once again, I'm sorry about Mark…”

“It’s not your fault”

“No… but still. I know how tough it can be to be out on your own.”

“I really don’t mind it. I like your new office.”

“You haven't been here before?” How long has it been?

“Nope”. She bites her bottom lip and lets out a shallow breath. She leans forward slowly. Every single one of her movements turns me on slightly. Maybe this is a bad idea, I think to myself. Should I end it? Oh yeah, that will go over well. Why didn’t you hire Jasmina? Well because She is too hot. That would be ridiculous. I can control myself.

My eyes automatically fall to the line of her cleavage. Control yourself.

“So how do you even interview someone who you know?” she asks.

You mean how do I hire someone as hot you? Because that's the real question here. When the fuck did this happen?

“Well, we can talk about what is expected here, and what you are going to do,” I redirect my brain back to business.

“Okay...You know I really just want to learn from you. You and Christian are some of the hardest workers I know.”

“And your father,” I add. I know it would probably upset her, but I needed to remind myself who she is, because the idea of bending her over my desk keeps finding its way into my mind.

“Yeah…” she trails off. “He does do work well.”

I smile and look down at the papers. Stop, staring at her tits. This could be the most difficult interview I have ever given.

“It would be in your best interest if people didn’t know - you know- about our relationship.” That was awkwardly said.

“Our relationship?” she asks so innocently. I cough and loosen my tie.

“About your dad and I being best friends. All of that stuff.”

“Right...so does that mean you're going to give me the job? Her eyes light up and she looks breathtaking. I suppose that this is not the most professional way I could have handled the delicate situation.

“I mean how could I not hire you?”

“You don’t have too. I don’t want to feel like it's a necessity or something.”

“No, Jasmina. You are a hard worker and you are very intelligent. It would be great to have someone like you on my team.”

“Thank you,” she blushes. Her cheeks grow warm and rosy. Is that the color they turn when she is turned on?

“I honestly got so excited when you had an opening. Christian told me the other night when he was helping me move in.”

“You found a place to live?”

Yeah! It's actually really close, which is nice. Driving downtown is horrible.”

“That’s good. I'm happy for you.”

I reach into my desk and pull out some forms.

“Usually, it's my secretary who looks after the new hire papers etc. But since we don't have one and because it is you, I can take you through them.”

“Oh, okay.”

She flips through the small stack.

“Do you fire people often?”

“No, not really. We try to keep a small team, with one person who can work for three of four. One hard worker can make the same difference of ten normal workers. But yeah…”

“Well, I am honored that you are hiring me.” She smirks again.

“I am honored to have you here in the office. I know everyone is going to absolutely love you.

“Do you think that?”

“I do. How could they not?”

We stare at one another in the silent office. The ticking of the clock reminds me that time is passing, and I have a lot of work coming up.

“So, are you ready to work here? And, how long were you thinking of staying? I know art school is still an option.”

“That would not be until the end of summer probably.”

“Okay,” I nod.

“But I am definitely ready to work with you, Ryan.”

“Awesome.” I stand up, and she stands up as well. I get another shot of her perfect slim and trim body, like a living doll.

“I can’t even express to you how excited I am,” she bubbles over.

I smile.

“Follow me.”

“Okay.”

I lead her out of the office and over to the desk. I set the papers down at the front and pull the chair out for her. My assistants and paralegals stares at us - well at Jasmina.

Her demeanor seems to completely change into an serious and hard worker.

“This is your desk, “I say.

“Alright. I got that much already.”

“I had Beatrice leave on the computer a series of instructions with her daily tasks and what is expected of you now, and how you should do everything.”

My new secretary sits down at the desk. She looks like she belongs there.

“Let me just look and make sure I can pull it up.”

Her slender hands type quickly on the computer. Her small shoulders bend forward closer to the monitor, I watch her soft breasts press against the desk. She opens up a file on the computer.

“Is this it? “

I bend forward and quickly read the word document she has found. Beatrice left a long list of instructions.

“Yup.”

“Perfect.” The confident look that appears in her eyes, turns me on.

“Why don’t you spend the next few hours going over everything?”

“Okay,” she starts to read through the paperwork. Why don’t I fill this all out and get it to you then?”

“Sure, yeah. That works for me.”

She nods and pulls out a pen.

“I got it.”

“Think of the job as the face of the firm. When people walk in, you are the first thing they will see.”

“Is my face an issue?” she laughs.

“No, no. That’s not what I meant...you are; you are perfect...I mean-”

“I was joking, Ryan.” She reaches for a pen and begins to softly chew on it. Her full lips wrap around the pen and start to suck on it. I close my eyes and look away.

“I’ll be in my office. Just get situated.”

“Is that all you have to say?” she asks, suddenly, cocking her head and peering at me.

“Yes…” I respond cautiously.

“Well, what about the training and all of that?”

I take a deep breath. I wasn’t completely sure. Beatrice had just done everything; the job wasn't something I worried about too much.

“Go over what Beatrice, the old secretary typed up, and then if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. Okay?

She nods her head. Her hair brushes against her shoulder.

“Get that paperwork filled out, read through the file, and that’s what we will focus on today. Tomorrow, I think we can do more of a feel for your typical day.”

“Great.”

She spins in the chair and starts to fill everything out. I realize that I am still just standing there, staring at her. I turn and see a few of my associates staring at me. I smile briefly and then look back at Jasmina.

I should probably make an announcement. Just so that they know. I clear my throat and move forward toward the desks. I have five people working under me, not including Jasmina.

“Can I please have everyone's attention.”
The loud business of work and low chatter drops to a standstill. Their eyes peer directly me and then at Jasmina.

“This is Jasmina. She is our new secretary now, so let’s make sure to treat her with the respect she deserves.”

They smile and nod, saying hello. Jasmina is very graceful. She stands and bows her head thanking everyone. She sits back down and returns to work. The noise of work in the room resumes. Phones ring and people talk.

I walk back into my office and begin work on a large contract one of my paralegals wrote up for a client. My head switches to lawyer mode, and I start my job. The time starts to fly by as I cut away at the long and heavy paper. I'm gonna need a few cups of coffee before I even get close to finishing this monster of a legal document. I wipe my face and glance at clock. It's been about two hours. I should really stop looking at the clock; that always makes time go by so much slower.

I wonder how Jasmina is doing with all of that reading?

I crane my neck from behind the large computer desk and spy out the window. I look straight at a view of Kevin’s ass.

What is he doing?

I crane my neck even further and see Jasmina smiling. She starts giggling about something he says. I shake my head. I should have known he would try and go after her. It hasn’t even been a full day, and she is being hit on. I stop and contemplate my thoughts. Why is that an issue? They are both young and Kevin is a great kid. If anything, I should encourage them to date one another. Jasmina can use a man in her life, now that she is all on her own. But I know that is not how I really feel. I don’t like the way he leans over the desk and peers down her shirt. Kevin would never be able to keep up with Jasmina; she is far above in maturity. I clench my jaw and stand up.

I fling the door open and walk out toward the desk. Jasmina and Kevin look at me.

“How’s it going, Jasmina?”

“Good. I’m half way through. Beatrice was very thorough. I think with a little bit of practice I should be able to get to the hang of working here.”

“That is great news.” I face Kevin. “What are you doing, Kevin?”

“I thought I would come say hi to Jasmina,” he stammers, taking a step back.

“Okay, well - I just read through the contract you sent me last night.”

“And?” There is a nervousness in his eyes.

“It’s good. Good job. Let’s keep it that way without any more slacking off.”

Kevin’s face turns a bright shade of red. He looks at Jasmina and then back at me.

“Right. I will.”

“Excellent.”

I watch as he saunters back to his desk in the corner.

“He’s nice,” Jasmina says. She slides back into her seat. The leather of the seat sticks to the back of her bare legs.

“Well, let me know if he bothers you anymore.”

“He wasn’t bothering me,” she whispers.

“Maybe not yet, but someone as ho-beautiful as you are needs to be careful. These guys aren’t the best kind when it comes to woman. They're all just a bunch of players.”

“I think I can handle myself.”

“I know; I just don’t want them thinking it's okay to hit on you.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that.” Jasmina throws her hands in the hair in a carefree manner.

“Alright. I keep forgetting that you can take care of yourself.”

“Well, stop forgetting. I am a big girl now with big girl needs.”

Her eyes hold mine for a long moment. I swallow and quickly turn around. Did I make a mistake by hiring her today?
