Except for the way Trace beat me in a race at Sunday River, Thanksgiving was awesome. My parents loved her, like I knew they would. Trace and Heaven became best of friends in the few days we were there. I think the way she smoked me on the ski slope made Heaven adore her even more.

We decided to leave Saturday, giving us Sunday to practice our routine a few extra hours. The festival is in three weeks and our routine to the mashup of “You Matter to Me” and “Distance” is jam packed. We’ve put in lots of fancy choreographed steps, several lifts, side by side double Lutzes, a throw double axel, death spiral, and combinations of a variety of side by side sit spins. It’s demanding, but we decided to go big or go home. I’m a little nervous about taking on such an experienced routine. We’ve practiced enough, though. I know we’ll nail it.

The chemistry between us as we skate in front of the filled to capacity arena is enough to cause the ice to steam. We’re so in tune with each other, every move is in perfect synchronization and our routine is flawless.

When we complete our last spin and I end on one knee with Trace draped back over my leg, I can’t resist bending my head down and brushing my lips across hers. Lost in the adrenaline rush and my intense feelings for her, I almost forgot there are a few thousand people watching us. When the crowd stands and goes wild, clapping and cheering, and I hear the loud whistles of my teammates in the front row seats, I’m reminded of their presence.

Trace beams from ear to ear, her eyes filling with tears of joy. My chest is ready to explode with pride. I’m so thrilled I was a part of making her this happy.

The audience is yelling for us to do an encore.

“Let’s do it baby,” I say into Trace’s ear so she can hear me over the crowd.

“But we haven’t even practiced it,” Trace objects, but I can tell by the adventurous gleam in her eye she’s considering it.

“We’ve messed around with the Steffanina choreography we watched on YouTube a few times. We can pull it off. Besides it’s the song that was playing the first time you came to my house for the party. Remember? I’m going to use every emotion I was feeling when I locked eyes with you across the room. Let’s show ‘em how it’s done.”

I stand, pulling her up with me. I gesture to the guy up in the window of the AV room overlooking the ice. He’s a friend of mine and I talked to him before the show. I told him if the routine went as well as I thought it was going to, we were going to do another more upbeat routine and for him to be ready with the music.

When I give the guy the signal, the crowd comes to a hush until the first notes of “Shape Of You” fill the arena and the audience is on their feet again screaming their approval.

We get right into the chorography we practiced from the dance tutorial. We tweaked it to make it work on skates. Since the moves are all on lyrics the body rolls, stanky legs and controlled arm movements were fairly easy to incorporate.

The audience is so into it we almost can’t hear the music. When the last notes blast through the arena, Trace and I hit our final pops, ending in each other’s arms, and everyone in the Bernard Arena goes crazy.

“We just blasted figure skating at Bernard into the twenty-second century, baby girl!” I yell into Trace’s ear while lifting her off her skates and spinning us around. She has her arms around my neck and her head tucked into the space under my chin. It’s her favorite spot on my body. Uh, other than the one between my legs, that is. She says it’s the place she feels safest.

“Let’s get out of here and celebrate,” she says.

“You don’t want to wait for the final bows?”

She shakes her head and I’m loving the heat in her eyes. “Okay. I’ll meet you back at your house.”

We drove over in separate cars because Trace had last minute GA work to do.

I try to drive at a safe speed to get back to my place to take a quick shower. I know I’m breaking speed limits for campus streets. Can’t help it. Tonight’s the night I’m going for it.

I’m going to tell her everything, not holding anything back. I need to tell her I’m in love with her. She has to know what she means to me and that I don’t want this thing between us to ever end. I think she’s feeling the same things and it’s time we say it.

When I pull in my driveway, Trace’s car is already in her driveway.

Damn. The girl always manages to beat me at everything.

I almost can’t squeeze my car between all the cars parked on our street to get into my driveway. It’s Friday night and the streets are filled with people taking part in all the festivities going on during Winter Fest.

I rush into the house and head up the stairs to my room, stripping my clothes off as I go. All I can think about is getting over to Trace’s with the bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge. I bought it earlier today with plans to help set the mood and start our celebration.

After I peel off all my clothes, I stretch back on my bed for a second to try to get my thoughts straight and think about everything I want to say to her.

“Hey, Dak. Your routine was impressive. It got me so hot for you. I had to come over and show you.” Bri climbs on top of me and she’s completely naked except for a string of cloth posing as underwear.

“Bri, what the fuck? What are you doing here?”

“I’d already skated so I left right after your routine. I’ve been waiting for you. I used your bathroom to freshen up and get ready.” She bends over and hangs her tits in my face. When she starts rocking her hips into my cock, I grab her waist to stop her and pull her off me.

Next thing I know I hear a gasp coming from the doorway. When Bri turns because she hears it too, I’m able to see the doorway and Trace standing in it with her hand over her mouth, her eyes brimming with tears.

“Do you mind?” Bri hisses at Trace. “We’re kind of busy here.”

“Get the fuck off me.” I push Bri to the side. “Tracey, it’s not what you think.”

When I stand up and Trace sees me standing there stark naked, she takes one more glance at Bri and back to me. Bri’s lying across my bed, propped up on her elbows, her mouth pursed in a smug grin.

“No… how…how could you?” Her eyes are conveying all the heartbreak I know she’s feeling. I can almost hear her heart shattering. Even though it’s a misunderstanding, I’m destroyed knowing I put that pain into those beautiful eyes.

“Trace, please.” When I walk toward her, she bolts back down the stairs and out of the house. I start after her, then remember I’m naked. Grabbing my jeans, I try to pull them up while chasing after her and trip over the legs.

Fuuuck.
