A Daring Desire (Dare Menage Series Book 4) by Jeanne St. James (10)

Chapter 10

From her home to his in a blink. The nights flew by. The days dragged.

Gryff hadn’t stayed late at the office in the past two weeks.

Not once.

Neither had Rayne.

The daylight was for others. The nighttime was for them. Only them.

Rayne had been having discussions on a daily basis with Grant Lane, the associate Gryff appointed to “head” Trey’s case.

Grant was very good. But not Gryff good. And certainly not even close to Rayne.

But she had countless meetings in the office with Grant. Assisting him with the District Attorney, gathering facts, searching for witnesses. Anything to get Trey’s charges dropped. They had even deployed the firm’s private investigator, Elliott, who happened to be one of the best in his profession.

Gryff only wanted the best for his firm. That’s why he was on top. He didn’t slack and none of his people did, either. He had no room or patience for dead weight.

Gryff wasn’t billing Trey for all the hours Eli was putting in, though he didn’t tell Trey that.

They needed to avoid a trial. If the DA didn’t agree to dismiss the charges, then the next step would be to make a deal. Trey balked at that option. Grae also had weighed in on that route. He didn’t want a deal either. He wanted Trey completely cleared of any charges.

But, no matter what, they needed to keep Trey out of the clutches of Judge Thompkins.

In the last two weeks, the three of them had gone nowhere together in public. Trey was too recognizable and the media sometimes lurked. Especially the gossip rags.

They avoided his apartment, with most nights ending up at Rayne’s or Gryff’s. Trey had even rented a plain Jane Honda to travel to and from either place. He’d wear an old, ratty baseball cap, sunglasses, and sometimes a hoodie to avoid attention.

But, even so, there hadn’t been one night that the three of them had not been together.

Gryff wasn’t stupid. He knew Trey was “grooming” him to become his lover in all ways.

As fun as the last two weeks had been, the late nights had taken a toll on him and Rayne. They’d arrive at work in the morning exhausted, sucking down cup after cup of coffee. They couldn’t keep going like this.

Trey? Not so much. Being suspended from the team gave him nowhere to report. He could sleep in, get a massage, lounge around his penthouse, and work out in the middle of the afternoon. Followed by a nap.

A fucking nap.

Even Rayne had rolled her eyes at that confession.

In those two weeks, rules had slowly formed. Not officially. But they were understood.

Because of the lack of condom use, Gryff insisted they all get tested and then continue to test on a regular basis for however long this all lasted. No one had balked at that.

The next rule Rayne had insisted on

She would have whoever, whenever and wherever she wanted.

No jealousy allowed.

Gryff wasn’t thrilled with that rule. Trey couldn’t care less.

But, Trey added, if he wanted to be alone with Gryff, she couldn’t gripe. Gryff found it mildly amusing that she agreed, though reluctantly. And not before insisting how hot it was to watch the two of them together.

However, besides kissing, touching, and sucking, nothing more had progressed between Gryff and Trey.

When Trey said he would go slow, he’d meant it. And though Gryff appreciated it, he was now ready to move forward.

He wanted Trey, he knew that now. Seeing the man naked for the past almost fourteen nights had whetted his appetite. Not to mention, the man had mad skills with his mouth.

Tonight, they were meeting at his house. Since it was Friday, he asked them to bring a bag, to stay the night. Something they hadn’t done before. At the end of every night, no matter how late, they’d all gone their separate ways.

Tonight, that would change. Trey’s smart comment had been, “I thought you’d never ask.”

When he told Rayne this morning, her reaction had been, “You got it, Boss.” And with a toss of her hair and a knowing smile, she sashayed out of his office in one of those ass-hugging skirts, leaving him with an erection that trapped him behind his desk for a full ten minutes.

Gryff’s cell buzzed on his desk. A glance at the lit screen showed a text from Trey.

When you said pack a bag, did that mean pack some toys and a vat of lube?

Before Gryff could answer him. Another text came through: You have condoms?

Gryff stared at the phone. Neither of them used condoms with Rayne. He could only think of one reason for needing condoms. Trey guessed that they were taking it to the next level.

Gryff steepled his fingers in front of his face and blew out a breath.

His phone buzzed again. You don’t know how hard I am thinking about tonight. And again: Can you two leave the office early?

Please?

Okay, fine. Ignore me. I’m going to prepare myself. Because I know I’m playing receiver tonight.

“For fuck’s sake,” Gryff muttered, a knot forming in his stomach. He thought he was ready… But maybe he wasn’t.

It was one thing to fantasize about being with Trey. It would be quite another to actually follow through. He’d woken quite a few nights with a hard-on that wouldn’t quit when he had dreams of the two of them together.

It was now or never. Because if it was going to be never, then Trey needed to know that. Then it would be up to the other man to decide if he wanted the three of them to continue as-is or not. It seemed that Rayne wanted all of them to be partners equally. Which meant all of them giving, all of them taking.

Gryff leaned back in his chair and squeezed his eyes shut.

Partners.

In Gryff’s opinion, partners also meant some sort of relationship. Like a real relationship similar to Grae’s with Paige and Connor.

They hadn’t discussed anything long term. Gryff had just figured once the newness wore off, all three would go their separate ways.

Or at least Trey would wander on to his next conquest, and leave Rayne and Gryff deciding what existed between just the two of them.

Because, no matter what, Gryff did not want to let Rayne go. Even if the threesome eventually dissolved.

He still considered making her a partner in his firm. And lately, a partner in life. She’d be a strong, intelligent woman to stand by his side.

Fuck.

Boss.”

His eyes popped open. He envisioned a serious, possibly permanent, relationship with the woman that just entered his office. If she would accept him.

She closed his office door behind her and approached his desk with a sober look on her face.

Shit.

“I can’t concentrate.”

She wasn’t the only one.

“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” She gave him a look of concern as she rounded his desk. He turned his chair to face her, and she stepped between his open knees, pressing her palm against his cheek.

His heart thumped in his chest at her caring touch. “I have to know.”

She tilted her head and studied him. “There’s no rush.”

“I don’t see a point in stringing Trey along if I’ll never want to be with him completely.”

“I’d like to say he wouldn’t mind keeping it the way things are now, but I don’t think that’s what he wants. I think he’d become dissatisfied in the end.”

“I know what he wants.”

She nodded. “Yes, you do.”

“I know what you want.”

She stayed silent for a moment. “Yes, but what I want...” She shook her head. “I just don’t want you to be pushed into something you might not be comfortable with.”

Instead of answering, Gryff curled a strand of her hair around his finger and then let it unwind on its own.

“I don’t want you to do something you’ll regret.”

“No one is pushing me to do anything. If I do this, then it’s because I want to,” he assured her.

She perched on his thigh and wrapped her arms around his neck, then nuzzled his throat. “I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m so wet right now.”

“Are you?” Gryff slipped a hand under her skirt and stroked her stockings at the apex of her thighs. The hot dampness under his fingertips gave him an instant erection. Again. “Oh, yes, you are. I’m tempted to take you right now.”

“Dani might walk in.”

“Yes, she might.”

Rayne brought her lips a hair’s breadth away from his. “I shouldn’t even be sitting on your lap.”

“No. You shouldn’t.”

“Boss, if you keep touching me like that, you might make me come. Even over my stockings. I’m that ready.”

“That might be a shame.” He stroked faster and harder. Rayne squirmed in his lap and he groaned as her ass bumped his cock.

Boss...”

“Tell me to make you come.”

Boss...”

Tell me.”

“Oh... fuck. Boss... make me come. Make me—” She tensed and her hips jerked, her thighs squeezing his hand between them. As she cried out, he crushed his mouth to hers to muffle it. Though, he wanted to cry out himself. He was painfully hard, and he doubted that he would get any relief until tonight.

Surprisingly, he hadn’t made a mess in his pants when he watched her face contort as she came.

God, she was so beautiful. Especially when she was in the throes of an orgasm.

He dropped a hand to his erection and rubbed it. Jesus, this was the second time today she’d done this to him.

She broke the kiss when her body stopped twitching and pressed her forehead against his while she panted, trying to get her breath back. “I can’t wait to do Reverse Cowgirl Chow Wagon again,” she whispered raggedly.

“It might not be tonight.”

No.”

But soon.”

“Yes,” she agreed. “Very soon.” She pushed to her feet and straightened her skirt while heading toward the door.

“Rayne,” he called out. She stopped and glanced at him over her shoulder.

He wanted to say something to her about how much she meant to him. But it was too soon. And things were still up in the air.

Now might not be the time.

“Boss?” she asked, cocking an eyebrow.

He shook his head. “Nothing. I’ll see you tonight. Please close the door behind you.”

“Yes, Boss,” she gave him a wink and a smile before letting herself out.

He wanted her. And he would have her. Whether it ended up being in a threesome or just the two of them, she was his.

* * *

Rayne’s chest tightened, and she wrung her hands as Gryff paced his living room. He was giving her a bad case of anxiety with his nervousness.

“Are you sure you don’t want a drink?” she asked, indicating the untouched Jack and Coke that sat on a nearby table.

No.”

Well, damn, if he wasn’t going to drink it, she would. She snagged the glass and took a healthy sip, the warmth of the liquor snaking into her belly.

“What time is it? Didn’t I say seven?”

“You’re wearing a watch,” she reminded him.

“What? Oh.” He lifted his wrist. “Five after.”

“It’s Trey. When has he been early for any of our... nights together?”

She was surprised Trey hadn’t actually been early for once. Especially since he’d been looking forward to tonight and taking that next step.

He stopped abruptly in front of her, pulled the glass out of her hands and downed the contents before handing her the empty glass back.

The corners of her lips curled up. “You want me to make you another one?”

No.”

That meant yes. She went over to the side bar and mixed him another, making it a little stronger this time. She took a quick sip, then headed in his direction until the doorbell rang.

Both of them froze and their eyes met. Gryff’s looked a little larger than normal.

“Are you going to answer the door?”

“Fuck,” he murmured, grabbed the fresh drink from her, and downed half of that, too.

“Never mind. I’ll answer it.” She patted his arm and then headed to the foyer, opening the door to an excited Trey.

“Hey, baby,” he rushed in, giving her a big sloppy kiss on the lips before backing up and checking her out. “Damn, you look hot.”

Rayne wore stilettos, thigh-high stockings with the seam down the back—because they were Gryff’s favorite—and a black leather skirt that barely covered the top of the stockings. She had also dug out a red gauzy blouse that was see-through and wore a lacy black camisole beneath it that emphasized her ample cleavage.

When she let herself into Gryff’s house earlier, he had met her in the kitchen, took one look at her, cursed loudly, and then threatened to take her against the wall. She had been quite pleased with his reaction.

“You like it?” she asked Trey, knowing he damn well did.

Meh.”

She threw her head back and laughed.

She sobered quickly when Trey whispered, “How is he?”

Freaking out.”

“Shit. Not good,” he murmured.

No.”

“I want this, baby.”

“I know. He does, too.”

“Where is he?”

Living room.”

“I’m in the living room and I can hear you,” Gryff called out.

They looked at each other and both said, “Shit,” then laughed.

“C’mon, baby. I love that outfit, but, damn, I can’t wait to take it off you, either.”

“Maybe I should just watch you two tonight,” she said as they entered the living room.

“Not going to happen,” Gryff said.

“Hey, boss man, give me a proper hello,” Trey said, approaching, pulling the glass out of Gryff’s steel grip and handing it to Rayne.

“Fuck you, Trey,” Gryff said softly, but let the other man wrap a hand around the back of his head and pull him close.

“You will be. I promise,” Trey murmured against Gryff’s lips before their mouths sealed together.

Watching them kiss made Rayne not only weak in the knees, but created a rush of warmth and wetness between her thighs. She had skipped the panties tonight. And the longer the kiss went on and the deeper it got, the slicker she got.

No, she wouldn’t just be watching tonight. No chance of that. At all.

When Trey’s hand went to Gryff’s hip, he thrust against him and one of them moaned. She didn’t know which one, nor did she care. It sent a wave of electricity through her, either way.

When the men finally parted, Gryff looked a lot more relaxed. His gaze seemed to be a bit unfocused. Trey definitely had skills.

“Did you bring a bag?” Gryff asked Trey, his voice raw, rough.

“Of course. I wouldn't miss an opportunity to curl up between you two all night.”

“Wait, who said you’ll be in the middle?” Rayne teased.

He gave her a wink. “We’ll take turns.”

“We shouldn’t even be talking about sleeping at this point,” Gryff said.

“Who was talking about sleeping?” Trey asked. He turned to Rayne. “Baby, can you get me a beer?”

She hesitated. He’d never made her wait on him before. When he gave her a look, she realized he needed a moment alone with Gryff. She nodded. “Sure, I’ll be right back. Actually, why don’t your beer and I just wait for you two upstairs?”

“Thanks, baby. You’re the best.”

Her earlier anxiety now quickly turned into excited anticipation while she grabbed a beer from the kitchen and headed up to Gryff’s master bedroom to wait.
