Cupid
December 12th
“Hey, Cupid.” I looked up from behind the bar and saw Candy’s friend Angel standing there.
“Hi, is she ok?”
“Not really, no.” She shook her head and tears began to fill her eyes. She blinked a few times before smiling back at me. “She just wanted me to let you know that she won’t be in tonight.”
“Thanks for letting me know.” I was helping out behind the bar tonight as one of the regular waiters had called in sick. I was glad that I could be behind here serving drinks, it meant that I wouldn’t have women offering themselves to me on a plate.
“She really likes you, you know.”
“I really like her too.” I smiled knowing that Candy felt the same way that I did.
“Good, then hopefully you won’t break her heart.”
“I don’t plan to.” I leant over the bar so I was closer to Angel. “My plan is to make her mine, all mine.” I winked at her.
“I think you’ll be good together. I best get ready for the show.” She nodded her head towards the stage.
“Have fun.”
“Oh, I plan to.” She giggled as she walked off. I turned my back to the stage and started loading up the dirty glasses into the dishwasher.
“Hi, Cupid.” I glanced over my shoulder to see Star standing there smiling at me. She was dressed differently today, she had a two piece Santa outfit on. A boob tube type of top and a small red skirt. She still had the usual Santa hat and mask on.
“Hi, what can I get you?”
“A trip to the gingerbread room.” She ran her hand up my arm and I had to take a step back.
“Sorry, I’m working the bar tonight. Do you want a drink?”
“Yeah, sure.” She took a seat on the stool in front of me and grabbed the cocktail menu. “I’ll have a Kiss-Me-Santa.”
I nodded my head as I grabbed a prosecco glass and filled it with two shots of strawberry liqueur, a splash of vodka and topped the rest of the glass up with champagne before adding a candy cane into it.
“Here you go.” I placed the glass in front of her and her eyes lit up.
“Maybe after this I can get a kiss from a Santa here?”
“I’m sure there are a lot of willing guys out there.” I nodded to the crowds of men that had their eyes on the stage.
“And what about you?”
“I’m just here to serve drinks tonight.” I left her sitting there alone as a group of guys came up to the bar. I was relieved, I didn’t want all of this attention that she was giving me.
I had never expected to meet and fall for Candy like I did last year. I hadn’t long been split up from my girlfriend and I needed to get away. I had a friend who lived in this town and he offered me the chance to sleep on his sofa. I’m sure he only expected me to stay for a week or so, but I ended up staying for the whole month of December. I had heard through the grapevine about Santa Land and signed up immediately. I had just got out of a two year relationship and wanted to have fun.
When December twenty fourth came and went and Santa Land had closed down I had to head back home, to the house that I had shared with my ex-girlfriend. I went back to pack all my shit up. My plan was to get back to the town that I had met Candy and try to find her. But my girlfriend had surprised the fuck out of me when she told me she was pregnant. She was only a couple of months gone, she didn’t have a baby bump or have any weird cravings. We agreed to try again for the sake of the baby we had made together. I was gutted that I had missed my chance with Candy. But I owed it to my unborn child to make it work, so he or she could have grown up with a mum and dad. A couple more months passed and there was still no sign of a baby bump. I had a niggling sensation that I was being played. I called the doctor to schedule an appointment on behalf of her, so I could see for myself if there was a baby or not and that’s when the doctor surgery told me that Kimmie had only just cancelled her birth control prescription.
I confronted her and that’s when she had admitted everything to me, that she had lied. She didn’t want me leaving her and she had hoped by me staying that things would get back to how they were before. But I couldn’t get Candy off my mind. I felt like I was betraying her anytime that I kissed or slept with Kimmie. I packed up all of my belongings and found an apartment in the same town as Candy and hoped that I could get back into Santa Land for a second year and that Candy would also be there.
