CHAPTER 1

Callie

Today is like any other summer day in Texas, hot and sticky. Even the mosquitoes are too hot to move. I wish I was in the middle of a lake. Instead, I am running laps training for track. Have to stay conditioned, but I think I have reached my limit. I have to get off the track soon anyway to make room for the football guys. This year the competition will be stiffer because I am going into high school. My running partner, Fe, has already stopped, so I start my cool down walk. I see the football players coming over to the track and I see three of them stop and talk to Fe. I make my way over to them to grab my t-shirt and my sports drink.

“Hey Callie, this is Jeb and Cru. Hanna’s cousins.” I knew Hanna’s aunt just married a man with two boys, but I didn’t know they were twins. I see Mason Brumley is with them. He and my brother, Ty, have been friends for a few years, but I’ve not really paid much attention to him. He’s cute, but so what.

“Hi. Fe are you ready? Someone will be out front waiting on us soon.” I don’t want to keep whoever my dad sends waiting.

“You’re Ty’s little sister?” This came from Mason.

“Yep.” I turn to head for the gate. Fe can catch up when he’s ready. I’m don’t have time for small talk. I want to find a way to the lake for my friends and I today. I need to get to making calls. “Hey, my friends and I are going to the lake this afternoon and I was wondering if you would be interested in going? All your friends can come, if we can all fit in my truck.” This could be an answer to my problem.

“You know there are five of us. Ty would have to go also. My dad won’t let me out without him.” I want them to know up front so we have no misunderstandings. My dad would freak if he found out I was going to the lake with older boys without Ty.

“We know. I know Ty. I know who your dad is. I’m Mase by the way.” It’s not like this is the first time we’ve met. No, dad would not like this, and I don't want to spend the rest of my summer grounded.

“Thanks, but I guess we better not. The mention of my dad reminds me I don’t want to be grounded. Fe may want to go.” I look to Fe but I can tell he is not going without me.

“Some other time then.” Mason is smiling at me. What’s up with that? He’s kinda cute but my mind is not boy crazy like a lot of our friends. I’ll be starting high school this coming school year and I know I need to keep my head on school work. I want scholarships for when I graduate, so school work is my number one, the only exception is my car. I turn again to walk off and Fe is right behind me, but I hear the three behind us laughing. I take it they are laughing at us for not going, so I turn and stare them down. “Is there a problem?” It makes them laugh harder.

“No problem. We’ll talk again.” Whatever. I hear the bikes out front and grab Fe’s arm and we run for the gate. Dad won’t like it if I keep our rides waiting.

“She’s growing up nicely.” Jeb states the obvious. Callie is a pretty girl, but she doesn’t act silly like other girls her age.

“She’s just a kid. We need older girls, not younger. No one will be getting in that girl’s pants. Her dad would kill anyone that tried. You know he is part of that biker club. Besides, her brother Ty is a good guy and he’s not letting anyone around her either.” Cru is right, too.

“She starts high school this year, right? Isn’t she the same age as your cousin Hanna? They’re good friends, right?” I am just curious. It would be ok to get to know her. We can be friends. She’ll need someone to show her around the high school, besides her brother.

“Now that’s what I call girlfriend material.” I see Cru has found the cheerleader practice squad. They come out three times a week to work through cheer routines. I have to say he is right.

“On the field boys. Quit gawking at the girls and hit the dirt. Give me some sit ups.” Coach’s daughter is one of those cheerleaders and he doesn’t like it when we stare, but it is a nice picture. Coach puts us through it today. The heat finally gets the best of us and he calls it a day. We are dragging butt. Some of the cheerleaders are still straggling around, trying to get the chance to talk to us, and it isn’t long before Cru is talking a few of them up and Jeb joins in. I see Tamera standing over beside them. We have hooked up a couple of times, but I can’t take her mouth for too long. She may have bigger tits than most girls, but I need a gag for her.

“Hey Mase. Cru says that ya’ ll are going to the lake, can I tag along? It sure is hot today and the cool water sounds like a great idea.” She’s trying to act all sexy, but it is coming off as desperate. What the heck? As long as I get what I want and then I can take her back home?

“Sure Tamera. Who else is up for it? We’ll take two trucks and most will have to ride in back, unless someone has a car. We’ll go the backroads.” Less likely to get a ticket that way.

“Can I ride up front with you? I’ll need to go get my suit.” It starts a lready. Maybe I should have thought this out better. Best bet, ignore her. She’ll shut up sooner or later.

“We need to get moving. Have to be back for two a days.” We start to the parking lot.

“You didn’t answer me. I need to get my suit. Can you take me ? I rode with Lisa and I don’t know if she is going.” I just keep walking. Jeb comes up beside me with a big smile on his face.

“You know she’s still talking to you.” As if I could block it out.

“I figure if I ignore it, it may go away.” I open my truck door and Tamera is up beside me getting in my space.

“Are you taking me?” Well, I’ve come this far.
“Get in Tamera. I’ll take you.” She looks like the cat that ate the canary.

“Thank you, Mase. I’ll thank you later, I have some homemade ice cream at home. Do you like homemade ice cream?” Doubt that. This is already wearing on my nerves.

Callie

Dad surprised us and he had some of the club members going to the lake. A family thing. Picnic and all. My kind of day. All three of my best friends and family. We finally make it there it is pretty deserted for a summer day. More room for us and dad won’t keep as close an eye on me. I want to get to that bridge. Dad is always saying it is too far, but I know I can do it. We set up the volley ball net and the men have the horse shoes set up. We helped the ol’ ladies set up the food and now it is our time. I’ve been avoiding taking my tank top and cut offs off. My swim suit has gotten a bit small. My boobs won’t quit growing. One day I was flat as a board, then it’s like someone sprinkled magic boob dust on me and they started to grow and haven't stopped. If grandma was still here, she would have already made me go shopping, but I am just not a shopper. Maybe I’m just being self-conscious and dad won’t notice. When I started my period last year that was a conversation I don’t ever want to repeat. He wants me to stay a kid the rest of my life. Could be worse. He could just not care. I already had enough of that for a lifetime.

“Hey, you wearing those clothes all day? Let’s hit the water.” That’s Fe, so anxious. I turn to look at dad and he is busy with something else. My tank and shorts are gone in a second and I’m running for the cool water. When I hit it, it feels glorious.

“Your dad is going to flip his shit over that swim suit. When did your boobs grow? Damn you look like a sixteen-yearold.” Fe is always stating the obvious.

“Fe, do you kiss your mom with that mouth? Why do you cuss all the time now? It’s not attractive at all.” Sarah is always on Fe about his mouth. She should hear Ty or my dad. Ty is the object of her obsession. We play in the water trying to play drown each other. We all swim like fish and love it. Dad taught each of us to swim the same summer. It’s not too long before Ty joins us. His friend Brad is with him and we are playing drown the person with the ball when two trucks pull up not far from our spot. I see it is Mason and his friends. We go back to doing our thing, but it is not too long before Kelsey is yelling for everyone to come eat. We make our way out of the water and I’m trying to adjust my swim suit. Ty comes up behind me and slaps my backside. Before he can take his hand away I have him thrown over my hip. I smile. That never grows old. I can finally throw him. Even if he was surprised. I keep him pinned to the ground with my foot. Then I hear clapping and look up to see Mason is standing there with a goofy grin on his face and just clapping. Jeb joins in.

“Callie let your brother up and get some damn clothes on.” Dad isn’t standing very far from us and he throws me a towel. Uncle Trent and ZMan are standing beside him.

“When the hell did Baby Girl grow tits?” Uncle Trent asks. My face is three shades of red.

“I don’t know, but I don’t like it.” Dad says with a grimace on his face.

“Right after she got her period dad. Haven’t you been paying attention?” Ty is eating this up. He loves embarrassing me. I dry off but I have lost my appetite now that I’m the center of attention. I slip my tank and shorts back on. I go and sit at the table with my friends. Dad finally makes his way over by me and he wiggles his finger for me to go over to him so I do. Dread in my stomach, I walk up to him and he says softly, “Tomorrow you will be going shopping with Kelsey. Are we clear young lady? Do not take your shirt or shorts off the rest of the day.” Then he turns and walks away and I am left feeling like I did something wrong growing up. I go back and sit down. I look over where the truck is parked and Mason is standing there staring at me, with some girl glued to his side. Boys… That was the last time we saw each other that summer. I knew Mason was trouble for me, so I changed my running times so I wouldn’t happen to run into him. I did go shopping with Kelsey the next day. Dad gave us his credit card and we shopped until I couldn’t shop any more. I purchased a new swim suit, but the thing is, the old one covered more. I bought cover-ups though, and found another suit to wear in front of dad. He did learn to never give his credit card to Kelsey, and I learned to never go shopping with Kelsey. She taught me to have two wardrobes. One for in front of dad, one for when I’m not, and how not to get caught. She also took me by her beauty shop and trimmed my hair and taught me how to apply makeup. Not that I really wear it, but if I want to it’s nice to have and know how to use it. She also bought me some smexy underwear. She says I’m too young for sexy, and too old for sweet. Actually it’s just boy short cut panties that fit tight and ride up on my butt cheeks. Not sure I like them. What is wrong with some regular boy shorts? Oh well. Sarah and Hanna are jealous and I’ll probably never wear them. It was good to have girl time. Not much of that around our house and as long as we don’t get found out, we’ll be ok.
Mason

First day of school of my junior year. This past weekend was a blast. Pasture party with a keg. I’m not a big drinker, but it was fun for a change. We camped right there. No way do we drink and drive. Still haven’t been able to shake Tamera yet. She has been sticking to me like glue. I don’t want to just come out and hurt her feelings, but she is not my girlfriend and I have let her know this. I see Cru and Jeb’s trucks when I wheel into the parking lot. I park right in between them. Not long until we will be out of here. This year and next. Can’t wait. Life will be good. We get out of our trucks and Cru grabs Tiffany’s hand right off the bat. Jeb falls back with me. I see Ty’s motorcycle is already here, and there is a really hot blonde standing next to him. I can’t see her face, but she has on a blue jean skirt that will barely make the dress code, and a pair of cowboy boots on with it. Her legs are muscular and tan. Her hair is down the middle of her back and I can’t wait to see who she is. I have a thing for blue jean skirts with boots and this girl is rocking that look. Ty does that head nod thing he does and she turns to see who is behind her. The bluest of eyes look straight at me. Holy crap. That’s…

“Damn, Callie has filled out nicely over the summer.” Jeb has just made the understatement of the year. How old is she again? “I’m going to go say hi.” Jeb is already headed that way. I go right behind him.

“Hey Ty. Hey Callie.” Ty nods but Callie doesn’t acknowledge Jeb at all.

“Callie remember you’re riding with Fe and his mom this afternoon. I have to go to the club. I have some errands for dad. Go straight home after track practice. We’ll be there later.” Ty is being an ass to his sister, but that’s what brothers are for.

“Whatever Ty. I already heard all this. Dinner will be ready when you get home. Can I go now? I see Sarah over there. We have our first class together.” She just wants away from her brother.

“Ok. Are you making cobbler tonight?” Ty looks like he wants awa y from her, too. “So you can cook and you’re beautiful sweetheart?” Jeb is laying it on strong.

“I’m not your sweetheart. I’m not anyone’s sweetheart.” With that Callie runs over to Sarah, her friend.

“Your sister sure is cute. She grew up over the summer. Can she really cook, too? She has attitude.” Ty gives Jeb a glare.

“Baby Girl is off limits. That word not only comes from me but straight from dad. You want to keep your dick, keep it away from my sister. She’s only thirteen and she can’t date.” He sounds serious. If she were my sister and looked like that I’d probably do the same thing.

“Ty, you still having that camping thing this weekend at your house? Sounds good. Who all is going to be there?” We have had this planned for about a month. Only guys camping and fishing all night.

“Yeah, but I am going to have to babysit Callie and her friend Felix. Dad is out of town. We’ll have someone there but I have to stay close to her. They’ll be camping, too.” I can’t say I mind that. Callie always seems to blends in. She doesn’t act like some snotty princess. This weekend cannot get here fast enough.

Callie

First week of high school is done. Not so different than middle school. Classes are easy so far. I study and do my work, no problems. I like most of my teachers. I have classes with my friends. Not much changes. Felix has been quieter than normal. Sarah is still crushing on Ty and Hanna has a new boyfriend. I’m just not interested. I guess it will come in time, getting bit by the boy bug, but I’m ok with not having the all consuming boy crazy thing happening. I just don’t get it. It’s not like real love exists. It’s all temporary, so why open yourself up to it? I guess I have a jaded outlook but there’s so much more to do. Racing cars, my martial arts, and just anything. No, I like my life the way it is. Tonight is going to be cool. Felix and I love to camp. Maybe I can get him to open up to me. Something has been up with him. We just have to stay away from Ty’s annoying friends. Red will be watching over us, but that means he will be acting like a big kid himself. He’s not that much older than Ty but he is a prospect for my dad’s club. Dad is out of town so we have a babysitter in leather. I shouldn’t say that. I love the BlackPath MC, but they are stifling sometimes. Red is the newest prospect, so he is our shadow. He’s cool though. He gives us our space as much as possible. I’m gathering up everything we’ll need. First, bug spray. Not doing without that. Plenty of food. I made homemade pizza in big quantities. My brother can eat, and so can Red. I know Ty’s friends can, too. S’mores stuff and cookies. Then I add some trail mix and veggies for me. I make sure my ice chest is full of water, juice, sports drinks and pop. Extra clothes, matches, and sleeping bags. Fe and I will have our own tent. That’s about it. I am set. I hear someone at the door and I know it’s Fe. I open the door and sure enough it is.

“You ready to fish all night?” Fe just looks troubled.

“You know I am. I have everything ready except our rod and reels. They’re outside. Oh yeah, I almost forgot my phone. It’s been charging. Let me get it and I’ll be ready. Red has the tents set up already and Ty and his friends will be there later. We’ll have a little time alone so we can talk. You’re going to spill your guts. You’re too quiet and I’m worried about you. So you’re going to spill.” Fe looks like he would rather do anything but talk. I wouldn’t be much of a friend if I didn’t care.

“Ok. I guess it’s time. I hope you’ll still be my friend afterwards. You’re my best friend and I can’t lose that.” I knew Fe was going through something big and I hope I can help him. We get all our stuff outside and go to dad’s shop to get the four wheelers out. We actually live close to town. Right on the outskirts. Our front yard you can tell. We have close enough neighbors. But our back yard opens up into woods. It looks more country back there. We have the best of both worlds. I open the big doors so we can get out and to my surprise dad is standing there. I didn’t hear his bike. I look around outside and I see his truck. “Dad what are you doing here? You’re supposed to be out of town and where is your bike?”

“Got back early and wanted to spend some time with my family. Left my bike at the clubhouse. Needs some maintenance. I will be your fishing partner tonight. What do you think about that?” I think it is awesome. I am a daddy’s girl, so I am always up for extra time.

“Great, dad. I made homemade pizza and some chocolate chip cookies.” Dad loves both.

“Now I know I am glad I came back early. Fe, how are you, son?” Oh, I forgot about our talk. I’ll be sure we have time.

“Actually Mr. Black, I’ve been better. Callie and I were going to talk tonight, but I would like your advice.” My dad looks surprised. I don’t know why. If I had not known Fe for so long I would think he liked my dad better than me.

“Ok. Sounds important. Let’s get everything down there and set up and then we can talk. We should still have time before Ty gets here with his friends.” I’m just glad Fe feels comfortable with dad, too. Fe loves his mom and dad, but he can’t really talk to them a lot. They have a communication problem and they have expectations of Fe that he just doesn’t understand. Glad I have a cool dad. “You two take the four wheelers and I’ll grab the poles and bring my truck.” Doesn’t take long to get down by the pond. We unload everything out by the tents and the folding table Red set up. Our folding chairs are all set up. I put my bag of clothes and towels in our tent. I spray our tent inside and out with mosquito spray and then I spray for ants. Learned that lesson the hard way one time when I woke up covered in the little boogers. Fe and I spray each other for bugs and we are set. Dad throws his sleeping bag in our tent and sprays himself. He grabs a beer out of his cooler and we all set in front of the tent. Dad takes a couple of drinks and looks at Fe. “Ok son, you have our undivided attention.”

“I really don’t know where to start.” Fe seems lost and my he art goes out to him. “I think I’m gay. I mean, I’m attracted to boys, not girls. I mean, oh heck, I don’t know what I mean. I’m confused.” Fe looks like that took everything out of him. I go over and sit beside him in his chair and take his hand in mine. Fe’s face lights up. Oh no, he thought I was going to turn away from him.

“Fe, I love you just the way you are. It doesn’t matter to me, so get that thought out of your head. You are stuck with me, buddy.” Fe turns and hugs me with everything he has, then he turns to look at my dad. Dad takes another drink of his beer and looks at Fe. “Son that is a big statement. How do you know?” Fe looks at me.

“Well sir, I would rather look at pictures of guys than girls. I have a crush on a guy, instead of a girl.” I look at dad and he is considering his words.

“Felix, I think you need to discuss this with your parents. They can help you sort it out.” Dad just doesn’t understand the situation at Felix’s house. “That being said, we are here for you. Our family don’t care who you are attracted to. We don’t judge. You are who you are on the inside. Anything else is not ours to judge. Talk to your parents, they love you. Just remember we are your family, too.” Dad gets up and hugs Felix and Felix is crying. I think he is just relieved. I love my dad. Felix finally pulls himself together. “Thank you both. I thought I knew how you would react, but I worried about it. I tried talking to my dad, but he just wouldn’t listen and kept changing the subject. I’ve had doubts that anyone would listen. I’m just glad I actually said it out loud finally.”

“Felix give your parents time. They’ll come around. You are entitled to your feelings and they’ll adjust. They love you. Be yourself. If you need someone to talk to or a place to go to get away for a while, we are here. It doesn’t matter what the color of your skin is or what religion you are or who you’re attracted to, we are here. Our home is open to you, as always.” I hear a truck and another four wheeler coming and I look over my shoulder at them.

“Can we talk when no one is around? I’d like to keep this quiet for a while.” This is his decision and I understand it.

“Of course. This is your story to tell. Let’s get the rods and fish some.” Dad steps toward the back of his truck and I know the conversation is shelved until another day.
Mason

I didn’t know Ty’s dad was going to be here. I thought I might get to talk to Callie. Not with him close. I don’t know why I even want to talk to her. She’s too young. She doesn’t even act like she likes me. She ignores me at school. Never tries to talk to me when I am with Ty. She’s either got her head in a book or under the hood of that damn car she works on all the time. She stays around her own friends at school and if I try to start a conversation, she either walks away or talks to someone else. I’m used to girls wanting my attention, not running from it. At least I know it’s not because she is interested in another boy. Brad asked her to the carnival last week and she turned him down. Brad is Ty’s best friend. We park next to the tents and we start pulling stuff out to get setup. I see Felix, Callie and Mr. Black going to the pond with their fishing gear. I wonder if she is too girlie to bait her own hook or get her own fish off the hook. I watch her with Felix and I am jealous. She is so comfortable with him. My questions are soon answered. Callie sets her own rig up, but she is using a lure. The girl likes to bass fish and it’s not long until she has her first fish. It’s a pretty good one. At least three or four pounds. She takes it off the hook like a champ. That’s all we needed to see. We are all hurrying to get to the pond. Nothing like seeing someone catch a fish to get us moving. Can’t be out done by a girl. We’d never live it down. We all have a good afternoon fishing. Mr. Black says he will have a fish fry and invite us all over to eat them. We all caught them and we all cleaned them. Even Callie. She wasn’t grossed out by the guts at all. Mr. Black took them home to wash and freeze. He left us here eating cold pizza and talking around the fire we started. It’s not cold, but who camps without a fire. After a while I hear Ty’s phone ring and it’s his dad telling him he is in charge until he gets back. He’s needed at the club for a while. I hear that place can get wild at times, but who knows. I see Callie lying on a blanket beside Felix and they are looking into the sky talking. If I want a chance to talk to her, it is now or never. I walk over and sit down beside where she is lying. “What are you two doing?” They both look at me and laugh. Not what I expected, but ok. “Something funny?”
“Not really.” Felix laughs as he gets it out.

“We were thinking about where exactly is heaven up there in that big beautiful sky? I mean, can you think of anything more beautiful than a Texas sky late at night?” Callie is still looking at it and I slide down beside her.

“You’re right. Nothing any prettier than that, except for your beautiful eyes.” She can’t ignore that. It’s out there. I am flirting and if I get caught I might regret it.

“Is that all you can come up with? We’re looking at the most beautiful sky and you want to turn it into a chance to flirt?” Callie almost seems mad. I can’t figure her out.

“I was just trying to be nice, squirt.” I don’t think she knows what flirting is for. Squirt should make her mad. Good, she needs to feel something for me. “Whatever. Felix let’s move.” With that she is up and gone. Felix hangs back.

“Mason you seem like a nice enough person. Don’t try your charms on Callie. She is not interested. I’m telling you this because she is my best friend. She isn’t like most girls. She isn’t scared of anything. She faces her fears and kicks their butts. She just doesn’t think a boy and girl relationship will work and it is a waste of her time. She had a hard childhood and I don’t know if she’ll ever get over it. She doesn’t sit around daydreaming about getting married and having kids. She just wants to get by. Save your moves for someone else.” Felix is whispering so no one else will hear, and I know it is because he is trying to protect Callie’s secrets from everyone. That explains the sad look in Callie’s eyes that I see at times. “Just let her be.” With that Felix is gone behind her. I sit there on the blanket looking at the sky, and I know then Callie is going to be someone special in my life. I won’t have it any other way. All girls should dream, and I hate the person who took that away from her.

One Year Later…

Tenth grade classes are no different than freshman. I’m just not lost. Same friends, same classrooms, just a different year. Nothing too challenging. As I get off my dad’s bike, I see Mason and his buddies. Jeb and I have become ok friends, but Mason always stares and it is like he is waiting for something. Cru and I just exist around each other. I don’t care much for him and he don’t care much for me. I see Fe and Sarah waiting on me. Hanna must not be here yet. Dad is dropping me off for the first day of school, he says to scare the boys away. He says I’m too pretty for my own good. If he only knew all the boys who have already asked me out. I’m not interested, so it doesn’t matter.

“Ride home with Ty and no lingering in the parking lot.” I have heard it all. It started two weeks ago. You are still too young to date. I can thank Brad for this. He had the nerve to ask my dad if I could date after I already told him no. Ty’s friend is not too smart. Now he’s not even allowed in our house. I have to give it to Brad though, he had nerve. Now I get the fall out.

“Yes, sir. I already told you dad, I am not interested in dating. Brad is just crazy.” I guess dad gets it, because he looks at me funny.

“One day you will Baby Girl. One day. I just want to wrap you up and protect you.” Dad is not doing well with me being a teenager.

“Love you, dad. Have a good day.” I kiss dad’s cheek before he puts his helmet back on.

“I know when I have been dismissed. Later. Stay safe. Love you.” Dad puts his helmet on and leaves me standing there. I move toward my friends. “Callie, wait up.” Mason is yelling behind me. Heaven help me. “What do you want Mason?” I am losing my patience with boys.

“I thought I might walk you to class. You know, the way friends do.” What is up with him?

“Why? We don’t have the same classes.” Lame excuse. Surely he can do better. “Maybe I want to hold your hand.” Not happening buddy. Try again.

“No. See you later Mason.” I take off towards Felix who has a big grin on his face and then I hear the laughter behind me and something about being shot down again.

“Callie.” Will he never stop? I turn and look at Mason.
“See you at lunch. Save me a place.” Why would a senior want to sit with us? “Whatever.” I give up.

Mase

I’m looking for Callie when I enter the lunchroom and I spot her and her friends. Callie is beating Brent in the head with her empty lunch tray and then she punches him in the kidney. Ouch, that’s got to hurt. I push people out of my way and Jeb is right behind me. By the time I get there she has Brent on the floor wailing away on him. Mr. Griggs, our bio teacher, is trying to pull her off, but that girl is pissed. I go over and pick her up and hold her in a bear hug. I am over six-foot-tall and probably out-weigh her by eighty pounds and still it is not easy to do. She is a little hell cat.

“What is wrong Callie? What did he do? Damn girl, calm down.” She seems to come to her senses and I think she is calmed down. Mr. Griggs has Brent. I let her go and it was the wrong thing to do. She dives for Brent and takes Mr. Griggs with her. Jeb steps up, Ty runs in and we get Callie calmed down. That’s when I see Felix and he has a busted lip and looks like he is going to run. When Callie looks over to Felix she goes to him and puts her arm around him.

“Callie, Felix, and Brent, office now.” He looks to Ty. “Ty call your dad.” This isn’t good. Hanna and Sarah come up behind us. I look at them. They have tears in their eyes.

“What happened to make Callie flip?” Ty asks Sarah.

“Brent was making fun of Felix and he tripped him and made him drop his tray. When he fell he hit the side of his face and busted his lip. When Callie heard what Brent said and saw Fe she went crazy.” She does have a temper. It’s not long before we hear the bikes coming. Mr. Black did not come alone. There’s like six of them. All of them looked pissed off. Ty makes his way out to them and they all go into the office.

“What did Brent say?” I’m asking Sarah, but Hanna answers.

“You’ll have to ask them. Not our business.” With that she takes Sarah’s hand and they leave.

“That girl is a hell cat. Wonder what got her back up? That’s not like her. She never gets in trouble.” Jeb is right. I guess we will find out later. So we head to class before the bell rings. We never see Callie or Felix that day. In fact Callie is suspended for three days for fighting. Brent was suspended for a week. The story never gets out what it was over. Just Callie was taking up for her friend. Mr. Black was not happy with her suspension. Everyone heard when the bikes left. I saw Ty later and all he would say is Brent deserved it and worse. That day everyone learned it didn’t matter how quiet Callie was, to not piss her off. After that I was determined to get Callie’s attention. Now I had a plan. The next afternoon I would talk to Mr. Black.

Next afternoon…..

I am nervous as hell. I don’t talk to a lot of dads. Our group mostly just hang out together, not much meeting parents and crap. Especially not badass bikers like Mr. Black. This could go so wrong. When I drive up in the driveway, I see both Ty and Mr. Black’s bikes. I see the doors to the shop are open and I go there first. I see Ty and Callie bent over her car, working on the engine. When they hear me they both stop and look.

“Didn’t know you were coming over Mason. Did I miss your call?” Ty is confused, but Callie is ignoring me again.

“No Ty, you didn’t miss my call. I came to see your dad and talk to him.” This got both of their attention. “Is he around? I need to speak to him.” About that time Mr. Black slides out from under the car on a creeper. How did I miss his legs sticking out from under that car?

“You have business with me son? I don’t know of a thing we have to talk about.” He is looking at me skeptically.

“Sir, I would like to talk to you about dating Callie? Man to man.” His facial expression does not look good to me, but he gets up and wipes his hand on a grease rag.

“Mason Brumley, what are you doing? You did not ask me to date you and I don’t date, or have any intentions of dating, so go home.” Callie is not happy. Mr. Black raises his hand in a way Callie knows to be quiet. “First off son, we can’t talk man to man, because if a man came wanting to date my daughter, who is only fourteen, he would leave in a body bag. I will give you a chance to say your piece but in the house. I need a beer for this.” That went better than I thought. I’ll take it. I hear Callie and Ty both grumbling. We walk to the house with Ty and Callie behind us. We walk in the back door to the kitchen. He points to a chair at the table. He goes to the fridge and gets himself a beer and me a pop. He starts to close the door but reaches back in and gets another beer and another pop out. He levels his eyes to Ty and points to the chair and looks at Callie. “Go get a shower Baby Girl. I’ll order pizza when this is over.” Callie doesn’t back talk, she just does it.

“Ok Mason, talk. Tell me why you think you deserve to spend time with my daughter and you better make it good the first time, because this will be the only time we have this discussion.” I am more nervous than I thought. My leg is twitching all on its own and I can barely sit still, but this is important, so I have to.

“Mr. Black.” He raises his hand for me to stop and I do.

“First off, if you want to date my daughter, call me Chief. That’s my road name in my club and it’s the only name that matters now. Do you want to know how I earned that name? Everyone does. I take care of everyone that needs taking care of. I don’t wait for someone else. I take control and handle shit. I bust heads and knees and more if need be. It would be good if you keep that in mind when dealing with my girl because I will deal with your ass if need be. My uncle gave me that name and I live up to it. My dad isn’t even Mr. Black. That would be my grandfather. I’m BlackPath MC through and through and it would be best you remember that. So is Ty and so is Callie. You fuck with one of us, then you fuck with us all.” Ok. Damn what was I thinking? How did I get here?

“Chief, I know Callie is only fourteen sir, but I would treat her with nothin g but respect. I will follow any rules you decide. You set them and we will follow. I like your daughter a lot and she doesn’t give me the time of day most days. She’s just different than other girls. She’s sweet, smart, and loyal, but she’s also fiery, hot tempered and she likes to fish and camp. I promise to protect her with everything I am.” I think for a second. I think I have covered all my bases. “Ok Chief, I’m done.” Chief looks me up and down. “How old are you?”
“I’m sixteen, but I’ll be seventeen in two months.” He is considering it.

“You had any pussy yet boy?” Holy crap. Who talks like that? I can’t lie to him. “I’ve had sex.” My palms are sweating and my throat is itchy. I barely got that out.

“You won’t be getting any from my daughter. If yo u try I will cut your cock off and stick it up your ass. Are we clear on that?” Chief is making me really nervous now. I have sweat running down my back and my arm pits are soaked.

“No sir. I respect her and wouldn’t try. Besides that, she would kick my butt.” I try to relieve some of the tension in the room. Chief shakes his head. “That she would, but then so would a lot of others, including me. What kind of dating because until my daughter turns fifteen, she will not be dating alone. You can group date. What do they call it?”

“You mean double date? That sounds good. We can go in groups and then double date.” It’s better than nothing.

“The dates will be either with Ty present or Felix. Felix is as much her brother as Ty, so don’t disrespect him or Callie may kick your ass.” This is better than I thought, but then a thought crosses my mind.

“Chief, if you don’t mind me asking, why did decide to let me date her? I mean, I’m not the first to ask. What changed your mind?” Chief looked to Ty and signaled for Ty to leave.

“Ok I get it, but Mason if you hurt Callie I will personally kick your ass. She’s my baby sister and no one hurts her, so if you have things you need to do before the two of you date, then you better get them done.” I know what he’s saying, but I’m ready. I know it will be worth it. As soon as Ty is gone Chief comes closer to me so no one can hear.

“Mason, I see the way you look at my daughter. I see the way a lot of boys look at my daughter. She doesn’t seem interested. In fact, she has told me as much. Most teen girls her age are already boy crazy by now. Trust me, I wish she’d stay my little girl the rest of her life. But she can’t and be happy. I don’t think she’s missing out right now because she is too young, but soon she will be. For some reason I trust you, a little. About as much as I’m going to trust any boy with my daughter. I know your dad. You come from good people. You nor Callie have moms. That’s common ground. Maybe you two can help each other with that. But most of all, I see the fear in your eyes of me and a little fear is good. Especially when it comes to dating my daughter. I’ll tell you, I don’t know if she’s going to be convinced so easily, but if you can convince her, I’ll ok it with stipulations. You follow these rules until she is fifteen, and we will relax some rules and so forth, each year. Who knows, you two might not even like each other. These are the rules. Are you listening? Because I am not telling my daughter these rules. You can, but these are your rules. You are responsible because you are older. Rule one, no one on one dating. Only in groups or a double date with Ty or Felix. Rule two, you can come to our house during the week, but be gone by eight. On the weekend until twelve. Supervised always. If no one else is here then neither are you. Stay out of her bedroom or I will shoot you. Rule three, I catch you cheating on my daughter and it won’t happen again. If you don’t want to date her, just tell her. Rule four, she can ride to and from school with you. Respect my daughter. She doesn’t believe in forever and relationships. She’s too young to be so jaded. Her mom did that to her. That’s it.” Chief gave me a lot to think about, but I can live with it. I stand up and put my hand out to shake his hand. He takes my hand and gives it a tight squeeze. I return my best handshake. We hear a noise and both look up and there stands Callie in her cut offs and tank top. She is looking at us and waiting for one of us to say something. “I’m going in my office to order pizza. Mason you are welcome to stay, unless Callie kicks your ass out.” With that Chief is gone and I am here staring at Callie.

CHAPTER 9

Callie

I can see my dad and Mason have been in deep conversation. Dad said he could stay and eat with us. That’s different. Dad usually throws the boys out before they have a chance to sit down. Guess dad likes Mason.

“Callie can we go outside on the porch and sit in the swing to talk while we wait on the pizza?” Why not? What could it hurt? We walk into the living room and out the front door and make our way to the swing. I sit over in the corner and thought Mason would do the same, but no he sits right next to me and then takes my hand in his.

“Callie do you believe in true love? You know the all- consuming kind.” I can’t believe he asked such a thing.

“Well Mason, not that we know each other well enough to ask such a question, but no. I don’t believe in love at all, or forever. I learned when I was young people only hurt each other. Family is all you can count on. I’m not dating you.” These are my true feelings, so why lie? I hate liars.

“So you trust family? Don’t your dad’s club members consider each other family even though most are not related?” Don’t know where he’s going with this, but we don’t discuss club business. “We don’t discuss club business with outsiders.” He’s smirking.

“Ok. This is just general. I won’t ask specifics. So just in general do you?” That can’t hurt.

“Yes Mason, we are family and love each other.” This is true.

“Ok. Can’t you consider me family and trust me? Just enough to let us spend time together. Get to know each other. Date in groups and double with Ty or Felix. Can you trust me that much?” I start to say something but he reaches over and kisses my lips softly. It feels so sweet. I am dumbfounded. I liked it. I touch my lips with my fingers. They still feel warm. I want to try it again, so I kiss him. It’s just as sweet and soft.

“Why did you kiss me?” Why would he kiss me? I’m not like the girls he dates. I have no experience with boys. That was my first kiss.

“Was that your first kiss? Please tell me it was. I want all your first. First kiss, first date, and later your first make out session. Much later.” He looks sincere, but who knows.

“That was my first kiss and it happened on my front porch. You’re the first boy my dad has let me be alone with. Why did you kiss me?” He has to tell me. Surely he has a girlfriend. Tamera comes to mind.

“I want you to give me the chance to be your boyfriend. You’re different and take my breath away. Please, Callie, give me a chance. I won’t hurt you. I’ll be true to you. Your dad has threatened me with a bullet and Ty said he would kick my ass. Please Callie?” He seems sincere, but I don’t know. Why couldn’t dad just say no like usual?

“What about Tamera? Isn’t she your girlfriend?” He looks surprised.

“I’ll be honest with you, and this is not going to sound nice, but we used to hook up and that is all. I’m not a virgin Callie. Haven’t been for a while now, but I will respect you. Sex isn’t even on the table and I want you to know that right now. I just want you to be mine. Will you be my girlfriend?” A little too much honesty and too much information.

“Does she know she is not your girlfriend? Because I know she tells everyone she is. I really don’t want to know details. Nasty.” Wait, what if she’s pregnant. “Could she be pregnant?”

“No, she couldn’t be pregnant. I always use protection. I would never put anyone at risk like that. She does know she’s not my girlfriend. I don’t string girls along. I was very upfront with her. Let me be your first boyfriend Callie, please.” That kiss did feel good, but me with a boyfriend? What do I say to him?

“What did dad say? Is he ok with it?” Maybe I’ll still have an out.

“He agreed, with rules, and I agreed to every one. I’d agree to practically anything. Just try it out.” Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to have someone to go to the movies with. He is mighty fine. “Mason, I will be your girlfriend, but the first time I catch you in a lie it will be the last. I’m telling you now that I need total honesty. I won’t settle for anything less.” Am I really doing this?

“Damn girl, you had me sweating this. I’ve never had to convince someone to go out with me before. Kiss me one more time before the pizza gets here.” We kiss again and then we see the delivery guy with the pizza. Mason pays for it and we go inside to eat. Dad and Ty come into the kitchen with us to eat. I set the three pizzas in the middle of the table and get paper plates. Ty is the first one to speak.

“So Mason Brumley, you are Callie’s first boyfriend.” Ty is shaking his head. “Leave him alone Ty.” Dad says
“Only boyfriend.” Mason says
“What did you say Mason?” Dad ask.

“I was correcting Ty. Only boyfriend.” Mason says it like he is sure of it. “I will be her only boyfriend.” Ty nearly chokes and dad just gives a full belly laugh. “Whatever, Mason Brumley. Get over yourself.” He can dream on.

The End for Now

This is how Mason Brumley and Callie Black started out. Young, sweet, first love. In my next novella you will find out how Chief became President of the BlackPath MC. What happens to his dad Whiskey, and why Rye and Bourbon left the BlackPath MC.

Until next time…..
