Between The Spreadsheets by Nicky Fox (22)

Epilogue

Dylan

This pink tornado came barreling though my life and upended everything. She’s a force of nature and I love her more than she knows. I looked forward to those days in the old office. I’d annoy her just to get a rise out of her. I knew exactly what I was doing. This girl made me crazy. She’s too good for me. I just couldn’t help myself. I needed something, anything from her, even if it was wrath. I laugh at how mad she used to get at me.

Looking at her now, she’s pregnant with our second child and playing with our toddler in the kitchen. They’re making cookies with pink and white chocolate chips. It’s adorable. We don’t know if we’re having a boy or a girl yet, but I think it’s a boy. She’s carrying this one a bit different and her cravings are completely the opposite of what they were before. I love being here for all of it.

Our little Rose is just like her mama. She loves the color pink and will only wear dresses. I feel so sorry for Birdie. Rose puts her in the most ridiculous outfits. We even caught her putting lipstick on Birdie one day. That pig loves her to death though. They sleep together. Birdie used to be attached to me, following me like a lost dog. Not anymore, I’ve been totally forgotten, well not completely. She still likes a belly rub every once in a while.

Rose takes ballet classes. I can’t help smile when I see her at practice in her little tutu. She has the same light brown hair as her mama. She has my eyes though. I’d like to think there’s a little of me in there somewhere. I really don’t mind having a smaller version of Andy. It’s double the fun around here.

Andy made all this possible. I remember our relationship changing when she came to work for me. Yes, I thought she was a princess, but I found out how caring and weird she is. I love her weird. It’s definitely my kind of weird. She plays video games better than I do for Christ’s sake. I love little things like that about her.

It seemed like every day we worked together I’d found out another little treasure about her. I wasn’t kidding when I said she moved around like she was dancing. It’s really like a ballet watching her. That day it hit me and I had to get out of the office and get some fresh air. I hadn’t ever felt that way about anyone, ever. It was like an emotional overload. I tried to keep my distance after that for a while, but Andy’s charms never cease.

And after I had a taste of that sweetness, I was a goner. The way I took her that first night, I was completely out of control. I had no choice but to make love to this woman. God, I wanted to feel her soft body against mine. I wanted her hands all over my body. I’d dreamed of that moment for years, since I first laid eyes on her that day I visited her in HR.

She was a petite little thing organizing all these boxes in her new office. She’d thrown up some girly pictures and a colorful pillow. It looked a lot better than it did before, that’s for sure. No way in hell was I going to tell her that. I watched her for a moment.

Her light brown hair fell in her face. She pushed it back and I saw these luscious lips I just wanted to devour. Even the little sigh that fell from her lips gave me a hard-on. I just stood there like a dope ogling her. Her tight pencil skirt didn’t help matters either and she wore a little pink polo that matched the shade of her lips. Don’t even get me started on her black heels that I wanted wrapped around my waist.

She finally looked up at me with a questioning look in her eye. I figured she probably caught me staring. It put me on the defensive and I said some things I shouldn’t have and then she returned with some venom of her own and that’s how our beautiful relationship was born.

I look at her now, swollen with my child and shake my head at how I got so lucky. I’m just some kid who was good with numbers, who happened to work at the accounting firm she got hired at. I’ve tried to figure out this equation of how we even happened. I guess it’s the one equation I can’t figure out. She’ll be forever my unsolved. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life trying figuring her out.
