Down on My Knees by Conley, Samantha (9)

Isaac - August

Wiping the sweat from my brow, I look at the pool, trying to decide if I want to take a dip before we eat. We’re celebrating being back from tour at Derek’s parents’ house, grilling out and taking in the warm rays. But my gaze keeps getting drawn to Camryn. For the life of me, I can’t keep my eyes off her. Her hair looks like living fire with the sunlight beaming on it. The royal blue suit she’s wearing leaves nothing to the imagination, cupping her magnificent breasts to perfection. The skirt thingy wrapped around her waist only accentuates her hourglass figure, and the way it ties on her hip shows a lovely amount of toned thigh.

Instead of smiling and laughing with her friends, her head is bowed, and her arms are crossed over her soft belly as if she’s protecting herself. Seeing her act this way is infuriating. She’s such a strong woman, but apparently, her ex-douchebag boyfriend and the bottle blonde hanging all over him have a way of tearing her down.

The girl is the exact opposite of Camryn—short, petite, stick thin with an obviously surgically enhanced chest, and wearing a suit that looks like it’s held together with dental floss. One wrong move and the whole party is going to get a show.

Nursing a beer, I stand next to Jason while he seems to be eyeing the girls himself. And it’s not Kristen he’s eyeballing, but the beautiful, petite brunette of the group. Interesting, but not exactly a revelation. I always thought he felt more for the fragile woman than he let on—especially after the way he acted at Christmas when we were in New York. No way a man who isn’t serious about some chick would turn down pussy like that. No, Jason is focused only on Mallory.

Which brings me back to my predicament. I haven’t been laid in months. Months. And the opportunity has been there. Oh man, has it been there. Not that I haven’t been tempted, but if I want to be with Camryn, I must show her I’m a changed man, not the manwhore I always was. I’ve become fast friends with Rosy Palm and her five sisters. But after getting back from tour, Camryn was hurt, putting the kibosh on any plans I may have had. Then her brother stayed with her for a couple weeks after the accident, which was a cock blocker. Any time I spent with Camryn meant her brother was at our side. Aside from a couple sneaky kisses, nothing else happened.

Noticing Jason staring intently across the pool, I glance at Camryn, her head downcast and shoulders slumped. Jason and I head for the girls to form a barrier between them and the hatefulness. What the fuck! That’s Camryn’s sister? I couldn’t have heard that right. There’s no way someone would talk to her sister that way. But Blondie proves me wrong.

Oh, Camryn, you sure you should eat that? It’ll go straight to your hips. Oops…too late.

I hope you don’t give everyone a free peep show when you bust out of that top. You’re brave wearing that in public, sis.

It does make a little more sense since Bryson said he and Camryn aren’t close to their sister. If I grew up with that shit, I’d tell them to go fuck themselves and forget that I had a sister.

Camryn excuses herself and heads away from the group into the house, frantically blinking back tears. I stand there debating whether to follow her or let her regroup on her own. The girls start talking, but I’m not paying any attention.

After a few minutes, I decide to fuck it all and head to find my girl. Adam walks over toward Derek alone, and I realize her sister has disappeared too. Shit!

Hurrying into the house, I head toward the hall bathroom drawn by harsh whispering. Why the fuck did I hesitate to follow Camryn? Remorse slithers down my spine at my delay.

“You think he wanted you, you fat whore? I was fucking Adam before he left your lard ass.”

“Just stop, Addy.” The tears in Camryn’s voice cut me like a knife.

“No, you need to learn your fucking place. You will never be as good as me. You don’t think as soon as the guy you’re with sees me he’s not picturing me when he’s fucking you? No, they see what you are. A fat, lazy bitch.”

“Please stop.”

“Please stop,” Blondie mocks. “You’re fucking pathetic, and you always have been. Where do you think Adam was all those late nights, Camryn? Huh? He was in my bed getting the ride of his life. I got to hear all about how frigid you were in bed. I’m sure I wasn’t the first girl he cheated on you with. You couldn’t possibly hold the attention of any man.”

Fuming, I slam my hand on the door, and the room goes quiet. I hear the snick of the lock, then her sister is standing in front of me, eyeing me like a fucking piece of meat.

“Sorry, just a little sisterly reunion.” She smirks. Looking over her shoulder back into the bathroom, she continues. “We’ll be out in a minute.”

“No, you’ll get the fuck out now,” I order.

“Excuse me?” she retorts, cocking her head to the side like she can’t believe what she heard.

Leaning on the doorframe, I crowd her. “Get. The. Fuck. Out. Now.”

“Who the hell do you think you are?” she asks irritated.

“The man kicking your ass out of this party.”

“You can’t do that.” Crossing her arms under her boobs, she flicks her long blonde hair so the ends land in her cleavage. I’m sure that shit worked before, but not with me, bitch.

“Fucking watch me.”

“Whatever. I’m done anyway. Turning back into the room, she faces Camryn. “Don’t forget what I said, sis,” she says like it’s a curse.

She shoves past me and heads down the hall. I push the door open, and Camryn is sitting on the toilet seat with her head down.

“Red—”

“Please, Isaac. I just need a few minutes.” When she looks up at me, tears are pooling in her eyes.

“Camryn, please.” I gather her up in my arms as the tears start to fall. Holding her sobbing to my chest, the tears quickly soak my shirt as I rub her back. I don’t know what the hell to do, so I do the only thing I can and hold on tight.

After a few minutes, her forehead resting on my chest, she asks, “Can you give me a minute to freshen up before I head out there? I probably look like a raccoon.”

“You look beautiful.”

“You can’t even see me.”

“Doesn’t matter. It’s you.” I kiss the top of her head, the scent of coconut filling my nostrils.

Giving a watery laugh, she steps back before looking up at me. I wipe my thumb across her cheek. “I take it back. You’re breathtaking.” Leaning down, I brush my lips across hers before she can utter a protest. “Take all the time you need. I have some trash to remove.”

Walking back down the hallway, I head toward the pool. Spying the little bitch wrapped around Adam like a damn vine, I stalk toward her, dodging floats and kids along the way. Grabbing Adam by the arm, I jerk my head to the right and move him away before I speak.

“You need to get that piece of work you brought with you out of here. Now.”

He looks down where my hand is wrapped around his arm before glaring at me, he says, “What the hell?”

“Do you know who she is?”

“Addy? Of course. I’ve been seeing her for a couple weeks.”

“And the fact that she’s Camryn’s sister?”

“Come again?” he asks

“Camryn’s sister. You know, the girl you were with for years.”

“Jesus, she never mentioned being related to Camryn.”

“And Camryn never mentioned a sister?”

“She rarely talked about anyone except her brother. I knew she had a sister, but that’s about it.”

“Well, let me tell you, Adam. I can’t believe the way your girl was talking to Red.”

“When?”

“I went in the house and overheard what she was saying. She told Camryn she was fucking you before y’all broke up and that you were talking shit about Camryn to her.”

“I sure as fuck didn’t! I just met this chick a couple months ago when I was in Houston.”

“You may need to check and see what kinda girl you’re spending your time with. And you need to get her outta here before Red comes back out.”

“I need to talk to Camryn. I never cheated on her.”

“Not now. It won’t help. You just need to get that poisonous bitch out of here.”

“Consider it done.” He claps me on the back. “And thanks for looking out for Camryn. We may not be together anymore, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about her.”

Turning away from me, he moves back to a very pissed off Addy before taking hold of her arm and leading her to the side gate. She starts throwing a fit, and the curses coming out of her mouth would make a sailor blush. My respect for Adam goes up when he puts a shoulder in her belly, hoists her over his shoulder, and carries her scrawny ass out the gate, blonde hair waving like a flag behind her. I can’t help but smile at the cheer that goes up. Camryn wasn’t the only one ready for her to go.
