Entwined (Hell's Bastard Book 4) by Emma James (19)

I woke up feeling great, until I realized I had slept much longer than I had set my alarm for—in fact ten hours longer. I never sleep through an alarm. And then the penny drops. Now I’m right pissed off, because I’d only planned on sleeping for a couple hours to appease my woman.

I get out of bed totally naked, except for the moon boot I have to keep on and search about for the clothes I took off, before accepting the ‘nightcap’ Evelyn had handed to me.

My clothes are nowhere to be found.

I whirl around facing the still occupied bed. “Evelyn Castille! How could you do that to me? I can’t believe you drugged me!” I’m bloody grouchy and I don’t care who hears.

“It was for your own good.” Her sweet, sexy voice holds no remorse and I’m trying not to think of her naked under the sheet. “You needed the solid rest and by now”—she’s reaches over to the bedside table and checks her phone—“Edge should have returned… and he has.”

“Didn’t think he would stay away,” I mutter.

“And according to Ghost, he’s brought Miss Catherine with him.” She looks very pleased with herself. I don’t know if it’s because she took control of me, or because I’m standing here fully naked in front of her. “See…Edge had a very good reason for taking off. He thought to bring Miss Catherine safely here.”

She’s definitely feeling very smug about taking control of me.

“Look who gets a gold star.” I can’t help my sarcasm.

“Come on, Boxer, you know you weren’t going to power down by yourself.” My woman thinks it’s all right to drug me. “You’ve been like a lion prowling about, you weren’t thinking straight when it came to Whisper and you were ready to flatten Edge the next time you saw him.” She’s got me there. “I did it for your own good, because I wouldn’t have been surprised if one of Edge’s men didn’t take matters into their own hands, the way you were behaving,” she adds, as a way of explanation for what she did.

“Whichever way you look at it, Reid, that man has got a stake in her life now and it’s not up to any of us to disregard that.” Things are serious, because I’ve gone from Boxer to Reid. “This is all up to Whisper. No matter how much you want to shove Edge out of the picture. You have to know that?”

“I would like to shove—”

“Let it go, Reid. You know deep down that man has every intension of fighting you on this—if it comes down to it. Don’t make yourself the enemy in Whisper’s eyes. Every parent and child goes through the teenage rebellious stage, and you will see that hit you now, if you try to cage her or demand things of her, she’s not willing to give you.”

“How can she even think she has feelings for him? He bleedin’ shot her,” I growl at her. This forced deep sleep really hasn’t changed how I feel.

“There you go assuming things. We don’t know if she does have feelings for Edge. You’re just scared this man is going to take her away from you and it’s making you irrational.”

“He wouldn’t have gone to all the trouble he has, if he didn’t have feelings for her.” I state the bloody obvious.

“I agree. He let you pound on him, let Ghost pound on him and put nearly every cent he had into getting an invite to that sick event. He got shot again while saving her. I don’t doubt he would have taken a bullet to the heart if it meant keeping her alive. But isn’t that the type of man any father would want for their daughter—a man who would stop at nothing to keep her safe?”

Evelyn is a good woman; I know she’s right. I just can’t help feeling threatened and wanting to make it difficult on Edge until he proves himself to me—even though he already has.

Fuck!

Fuck!

Fuck!

I don’t want to like the guy.

“You’ve only been in her life for a short time and she’s only had it good for that amount of time. She’s not lived a normal twenty-one-year-old girl’s life. She skipped dating and went straight to being pregnant. That’s a lot for Whisper to take in and she needs your support more than she needs your opinion of the father.

“Where’s Edge now?”

They better not be together.

I notice she doesn’t answer my question.

“Clothes?” I like to sleep naked with Ev beside me. I can’t very well go storming off looking for Edge bare-assed, and she knows it from the amused look on her gorgeous face. Two can play at this game.

I cross my arms and spread my legs a little wider. “Like what you see?”

“I most certainly do,” she gives me the sexiest smile, her eyes all lit up. The woman has no shame for what she has done to me. “Come back to bed and I’ll make it up to you.”

“My clothes, where are they Ev?” I lower my voice, but I can already see this is going to backfire on me.

“They will be returned once you calm down. I know the perfect way to release all that pent up tension.” She waggles her eyebrows at me which has me choking back a laugh.

My cock has made its own mind up from the look Ev is giving me and the way she’s licking her lips so innocently. I doubt she even knows she’s doing it, the woman is insatiable. “You have no shame.” I try to sound annoyed with her, but my body is losing the fight to go hunt the man down and instead get back into bed with Evelyn.

“Reid…” The little Vixen gets out of bed, in all her glorious nudity. Her nipples are pointed right at me, as she slinks towards me using everything she’s got, and boy she’s got it all.

“Trying to play me, Ev?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about?” Her hips sway seductively.

Oh she knows exactly what she’s doing.

My cock betrays me, behaving like a water divining rod as I meet her halfway, wrapping an arm around her waist, spinning her around until my chest meets her back. I push her forward until her hands slap against the closest wall, finding her wet and ready.

“Reid…” she breathes out excitedly. My ego swells knowing I can pull this reaction from her.

My mouth finds her earlobe, sucking on it, nipping at it.

Little noises of encouragement escape her parted lips as I rub myself across her wet folds. Back and forth, which drives her crazy as she spreads her legs wider, angling her hips to tempt me with more.

Christ, this woman!

“Don’t think I don’t know what you are doing, Ev. For now Edge can wait.” I slide a finger inside her, and then another, pumping them until she’s writhing about. As her moans get louder, my free hand lightly covers her mouth. I slide one finger in there for her to suck on, smothering her noises.

“Christ, Ev, what you do to me.” My fingers are gone and I’m sliding inside her—hard, our bodies moving back and forth as we search for that climax.

Edge, who?
