It Was Always You by Scarlet Ellis (7)

Leo

Jessie was angry with me.

Since we kissed, she had barely spoken a word to me. She put on the show, just like she was supposed to. Held my hand out of the studio and all the way to the chauffeur driven car that was waiting for us. But on the ride back to the house, she said nothing and kept her face turned from me.

Now, she zoomed past me and straight to the kitchen. I followed her, hoping I hadn’t ruined everything.

She looked beautiful, even when she was angry. I’d always noticed that about her. She clambered around the kitchen, banging shut cupboards and slamming pots and pans together and eventually she dumped a load of pasta in a pan to boil.

“You don’t have to cook right now, Jess. We could go out and have dinner somewhere nice.” I suggested, standing by the kitchen door.

“No, Leo, I don’t want to go out. I don’t want one more person staring at me in shock. I would like to have some inkling of normalcy in my life.” she snapped.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“What’s wrong? You kissed me, Leo! That wasn’t a part of the script. That wasn’t supposed to happen!” she raged.

“I know, I’m sorry. It just felt like the natural thing to do in that moment. I should have warned you.” I said.

She was shaking her head in anger.

“I just…you took me by surprise. I didn’t know what to do!”

“I’m sorry, Jess. It shouldn’t have happened. I know I crossed a line here.” I tried. The last thing I wanted was to piss her off.

“Maybe we do need some rules,” she suggested. She stood over the pan of pasta, while her small shoulders heaved with emotion. I ran a hand through my hair. I knew she would eventually come around. We couldn’t exist like this without rules. I knew I’d slip up.

“Maybe…yes,” I said.

She was staring at me now. Some of that boiling rage had dissipated, and in it’s place was irritation.

“Don’t worry, Leo, I’m not going to back out of the plan now. You’ll get your company.” she whispered, holding her chin up high.

I swooped towards her, deciding at the last moment that I shouldn’t be touching her.

“It’s not about that. I care about the company, I want it, I’ll go crazy if my uncle doesn’t pass it on to me. But Jessie, I don’t want to ruin what we have either. You are just as important to me.” I said.

I reached for her hand.

Kissing her had felt like heaven, and I wanted another piece of that. She let me hold her hand.

“Don’t say things you don’t mean, Leo.” she murmured and I stepped closer to her.

Our bodies were now an inch away. I could smell the sweet scent of her perfume, I could feel the warmth of her heaving body. Jessie’s ears were red, her green eyes were boring into me, searching my face.

“I’m not making this up, Jess. You are important to me, and I don’t want to do something that would push you away from me. If you want to establish rules, then that’s what we’ll do. And I promise you, I will never spring another surprise like that on you in public again.”

I lifted her hand up to my lips and kissed her fingers. Another thing I’d never done to her before. What was happening to me? What made me so bold?

Was it because she was sleeping in my bed? Because she was my wife?

“I don’t want rules, Leo.” she murmured.

I saw the way her lips parted, how her eyes sparkled. When I kissed her earlier, she’d sunk into me. The taste of her mouth was still on my tongue and I felt another electrical charge take over me.

“Good because then I can kiss you.” I growled.

My hand found the back of her head, holding her firmly in place. Neither did Jessie move, nor did she make a sound. She kept staring at me with her mouth hanging slightly open. I gave her enough opportunity to push me away. I didn’t want to surprise her. This had to be her choice too.

When I leaned into her again, she moved towards me so our bodies met. I could feel her breasts pressing up against my chest. My lips lightly grazed hers at first, and then she moaned softly. It was the cue I needed.

Our lips met and we opened our mouths together. I wrapped another arm around her waist, pulling her closer to me. My tongue slipped into her mouth, and she moaned again.

I could taste her, breathe her, touch her anywhere I wanted. But I didn’t. I kept my hands firmly planted where they were. Her hands were splayed on my chest, she was tightly pressed to me and kissing me back. She angled her face from side to side so I could reach her better.

I knew she could feel my cock moving in my pants and she moved against me. In ten years, we had never even come close to doing this and now in one day; so much had happened!

I pulled my mouth away from her, leaving her breathless. She was looking up at me. Even though she didn’t sound the words, I knew what she was saying. She wanted more. Just like I did.

I grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up, flipping her over my right shoulder.

She squealed, but then she giggled and I carried her to my bedroom, kicking the door shut with my foot.

I dropped her on the bed and her body bounced softly on the mattress.

“What are we doing, Leo?” she spoke finally, lying there on my bed, chewing her lower lip.

“What every other husband and wife does.” I replied and tore the tie away from my neck.
