Love Won (Winning at Love book 1) by Gillian Jones (35)

A Little Kino Goes a Long Way

“Welcome to Laser Quest. My name is Devon. Before we begin, do we have any newbs here tonight?” the teenager asks. We’re all sitting on benches in the holding room. It’s dim, and there are bloody fluorescent colours splashed everywhere.

Eastlyn and Kami are sitting across from Keaton and I, and I’m having a hard time concentrating on anything else but East. After frosting the cake, we’d all gathered around Keaton and sang “Happy Birthday” like a bunch of children. I had to laugh, as such is life with Katie Hatfield, so we all know and accept the drill. Once we polished off most of the Captain Underpants cake (don’t ask, I have no clue), we piled into Philip’s and Kami’s cars and here we are.

“We’ve never played,” Kami pipes up, pointing between herself and Eastlyn.

“Great. I’ll run through a few tips and tricks for you, then I’ll assign teams and get you all suited up and playing as soon as I can, so bear with me.”

“Sounds good,” Keaton says.

“First things first: you will sweat. It’s hot as hell in there, so, ladies, you might want to tie that hair up.”

“Great, exercise on a Saturday night…” Kami says, shooting Keaton a look, and he just smiles.

“I know how much you like a good work out, Kam. Seven days a week.” He winks and she harrumphs, rolling her eyes.

“Okay, let’s get started. Number one: learn the layout. I suggest taking a quick walk around the floor to see if you can find a few spots that will give you a wicked vantage point, but also some cover and protection. But I always like to remind people: playing too safe is boring! So, after thirty seconds, if you haven’t shot anyone it’s time to move on. Find the action,” he says, his voice booming with excitement, and we all laugh and agree that we’re here to play, not hide.

“Two: the upper levels are great if you want to shoot targets from higher ground or need a break, but, again, can be boring because you’re not right in the game’s action.” He grins and looks around at us all, making sure we’re still with him.

“Three: don’t always stay upright. Walk like a crab, crawl, or slither on the ground. It will give you the best protection, as long as you remember to keep moving. Standing in one place like a chump will get you shot!” he says, and Philip yells out how he likes this kid.

“And, finally: if you see someone aiming at you, and you can’t escape, try turning sideways.” Devon nods, pleased with himself. “Any questions?”

“Yeah, can you be on our team?” Eastlyn asks, a huge smile on her beautiful face.

“No, but if you need me, I’ll be right in the other room,” Devon says.

“You won’t need him,” I say, sidling up beside her as we walk into the adjacent room to suit up in our gear.

“Oh boy, this oughta be fun, caveman.” She bumps my shoulder and rolls her eyes at my Neanderthal comment.

What? It’s true. I’ll be everything she needs in there, especially since I plan on testing out that kino shit.

Walking over to the red vests, me, Kami, Keaton, and Eastlyn suit up. We agreed to be with the girls since we aren’t as hardcore players as the others, and, let’s be honest—as if I’d let her be on a different team than mine.

“You ready to kick some ass?” I ask Eastlyn and Kami, who are struggling to hold their guns comfortably from the looks of it.

“Sure am,” Eastlyn says, holding up her laser rifle, pretending to cock it. “All locked and loaded.” She’s too fucking cute.

“Let’s go, Rambo.” I nudge her to walk forward to join the others.

“Each game lasts twenty minutes,” calls Devon, “and the team with the most hits wins. Each numbered vest is assigned with a player name. That way, at the end, you’ll be able to see which players ranked highest.”

“Get ready to eat my dust, Graves. I’m a sharpshooter,” Eastlyn says, before smacking my ass and taking off once Devon activates our vests and the game officially starts. My cheeks hurt from smiling. I can’t wait to find her and mess with her in here.

“You know you’re not supposed to shoot me, right? Eastlyn?” I call after her.

But she’s already gone.

*

Spotting her in front of me, I slink along the wall so she can’t hear me when I make my move. I see a blue team member approaching her and take it as my cue.

“I got you.” I rush up, banding my arms around her, my gun in ready-position to defend her honour. I pull her back into me, and we land against the wall as I shoot the blue guy, his vest lighting up with the hit, and he scurries away. Holding her tightly, I lean down to her ear, lick the shell, and then mutter softly, “You were almost shot. Be more careful, Sprinkles.” Then I grind my dick against her ass, showing how the smallest touch of her affects me. “I saved your life,” I add, before rubbing my hand over the globes of her ass. Then I pay back her earlier smack, and run away to the sounds of her cursing me and laughing.

*

I see her about to come around the corner where I’m hiding. As soon as she’s visible, I run up and push her back against the wall, pinning her with my legs, causing her to moan and whisper my name. I press my gun to her stomach and she drops hers, choosing to wrap her arms around my neck, holding me tight.

“You’re going to make us lose, if you keep this up,” she says, rubbing her core along my rigid cock. “Did I mention how much I like laser tag?”

I see her face light up in the darkness, and my heart skips a beat, knowing she’s enjoying our little side game as much as I am. Before I bolt again, I rub my hand along the seam of her jeans right over her pussy. “Gotta go, babe. Stay safe.”

*

We’re deep into the third game. I’m having trouble finding my Rambo until I hear a round of giggles and look down to see Kami hiding along one of the walls, peeking her gun over a ledge. That’s when I spot her. I stand rooted for a few seconds, watching Eastlyn and Kami trying their damnedest to shoot one another—even though they’re on the same team. Seeing them having fun makes me smile. I’m just about to head down and sneak up on both of them, needing to feel my girl against me one more time, and maybe even break the kino rules a little and just kiss the hell out of her. Even if it means surrendering the four of us to the opposing team before our game ends.

I shift on my feet, ready to pounce, when out of nowhere, I see Keaton. He must have almost the same idea, but it isn’t Eastlyn he’s moving in on, it’s Kam. Hearing Kami squeal, I laugh, making it up to and in behind Eastlyn just as the lights turn on to signal the end of the game.

“You look sexy as hell, all sweaty and breathing heavy,” I say, pulling her back into my chest as I walk us to the equipment room, my hard cock rubbing against the sweet curve of her ass the whole time.

Once Kami and Keaton—the last ones to emerge from the course—join the rest of us, I’m not surprised to hear that our red team didn’t win a single game when the scores were announced. I, myself, was too busy playing my own game to bother really making much of an effort except where Eastlyn was concerned, so I take the ribbing from the others like a champ. As for Rambo and her mad shooting skills, I think she was lucky to have maybe made one shot, but I’m pretty confident she’s not too upset with the outcome either.

By the time we’re ready to leave, I’m not sure which game we’re more sweaty from, theirs or ours.
