Not So Casual: Part 2: Bre & Collin #2 (Power Play Series Book 14) by Kelly Harper (11)

Chapter Fourteen

After they finished, Collin returned to the men’s locker room to get dressed and give her some privacy. Bre found her luggage waiting for her, just as the house staff had promised. Not for the first time, she wondered how nice it must be to have people waiting on you hand and foot every minute of every day. Then again, it might be pretty creepy and invasive… Bre was definitely a fan of keeping things to herself. How else was she supposed to have all of her fun?

She pulled on a simple outfit: her high-waisted capris with a navy blouse. Bre wasn’t one of those girls that followed all of the latest fashion trends, but she did appreciate that most of her outfits could be worn comfortably around the house or taken out to a happy hour.

After putting herself together, Bre wheeled her luggage to the hall just outside of the gym and left it there. The house staff had told her they’d see that it got back to her room. She wondered if they had someone hiding just around the corner, spying on them and waiting for her to leave it out. Despite how nice it was, maybe this mansion was actually starting to creep her out.

Collin was already waiting for her, wearing dark slim-cut jeans that were rolled up at the bottom with brown leather loafers and a white button-up with sleeves rolled past his forearm. It occurred to her that his outfit almost perfectly matched hers, in that it was casual enough to wear around the house or could be paired with a blazer and turned into something much fancier. Perhaps they were more similar than she’d like to admit.

He gave her an uneasy smile and Bre was instantly desperate to break the tension between them. Their little sex session in the shower obviously hadn’t dispelled all of the weirdness from what happened in the pool.

“We’ve seen quite a few sights today, haven’t we?” she said, breaking the silence.

Great job. That didn’t sound forced, at all.

“Yeah, it can be overwhelming at first.”

“You can say that again,” she laughed.

He grinned at her. He really needed to stop that.

“Kind of sad that you can actually get used to living like this.”

Bre shook her head.

“I don’t think I could ever do that. I don’t know what it’s like to grow up with… how would you put it?… financial security. You Wall Street guys are on another level.”

“I’m with you,” he said. “You’d have to ask Logan about all of that.”

That was surprising. Bre had always assumed that Collin had been one of those preppy guys that had grown up with money. Maybe not a lot, but not nothing. She had guessed his parents were lawyers, or doctors, or something along those lines.

“I thought you came from some family money or something…”

“I wish!” he said, boisterously. “That would have made life a lot easier.”

“Did you go to school in New York?”

He shot her an incredulous look and for a brief instant she was worried that she’d overstepped herself again.

Please…

She considered it for a half-second before remembering their previous discussion.

“Boston?” she guessed.

“Close enough,” he confirmed. “Harvard.”

She gave him a confused look.

“I thought you said you didn’t come from money.”

“I don’t,” he said. The smile on his face waned. “But, that’s probably where we should leave it…”

Bre gave him a hard look.

“This is because of your rules again, isn’t it?”

“You’re catching on.”

She shook her head, disbelievingly.

“Your rules are stupid.”

Collin actually looked hurt by the comment. He put his arms around her waist and hugged her close.

“Look, the weekend is almost over. Before you know it we’ll be heading back to the City and this will all be behind us.”

Bre felt thoroughly deflated. It was like Collin couldn’t have said anything crueler if he’d tried. Yeah, they were two people having a wild weekend of crazy sex, but why did it have to be just that? She was tempted to try and press the issue right here and now, but she chickened out. If they only had one more night together, she didn’t want to spend it fighting.

“Right…” she sighed.

“Is something wrong?” he asked, frowning.

Bre shook her head quickly and tried to wave him off.

“It’s nothing.” His frown deepened so she quickly added, “I’m just not looking forward to going back to work on Monday. That’s all.”

“What’s going on at work? Are you having trouble with something?”

Bre pulled herself together enough to give him a sideways look. She didn’t even think he knew what she did for a living.

“Who’s the one getting personal now?” she teased.

Collin faked a scandalized look. His boyish charm shone through. Damn him.

“Oh, how dare me!” he said, dramatically. “But, in my defense, I did tell you where I went to school…”

Bre shrugged like it made no difference to her.

“Don’t blame me if you can’t follow your own rules.”

The laugh Collin let out came from deep in his belly. It instantly made her feel better.

“Fair enough. I suppose you’re right.”

They smiled at each other for what could have been an eternity. It felt amazing. And just when Bre realized how good it felt, she wanted it to end.

“So… what else is there to see in this huge place? Maybe we can catch the sunset over the pool?”

Collin hugged her just a little tighter.

“Actually, I had something else in mind… I have a feeling the pool is going to be crowded with all the new guests that showed up, and I’d much rather keep you all to myself.”

Bre cocked an eyebrow and gave him another sideways look.

“What did you have in mind?”
