Rocking Perfection (Reckless Release Book 3) by Cassandra Lawson (26)

Chapter 34

Cami

After meeting with the police, I hit a drive-thru and headed home. Crunchy tacos were one of my guilty pleasures, so I didn’t even bother pretending I was settling for something I didn’t like. When I finally climbed into bed, I slept for ten hours straight. Ten hours of sleep may not sound like much to people who sleep well, but I’m not a good sleeper. I’ve always had a hard time shutting my mind off and tend to wake up several times at night. For me, ten hours straight is the kind of thing I almost want to announce on social media. Instead, I settled for stretching and letting out a contented sigh.

I felt much better than I had the day before. I was still achy from my fall, but my head was no longer pounding. I had no appointments or hospital visits, so I was able to take my time. All I had on my schedule was my cooking lesson with Xander. After fixing myself a light breakfast, I decided to text him and check my emails before I took my shower.

Cami: What time would you like to get together for your cooking lesson today? I’m off, so my schedule is pretty open.

While waiting for a response, I scanned my emails and sighed. There were five from Mitch. Blocking his number had only caused him to change tactics for contacting me. My finger hovered as I tried to decide if I should even open the emails. The police had asked me to let them know if I heard from Mitch again, and they would likely want to know the details of the emails.

Cami,

You should be getting a little surprise delivered. Before you say anything, I arranged it before we broke up, and it was too late to cancel by the time I remembered. Keep it, and remember I’m always here if you need me.

Love,

Mitch

I rolled my eyes. If he only wanted to let me know about the delivery, he would have only sent one email. The email was to bait me into communicating with him. When he didn’t get a response in the time frame he expected, he sent another email.

Cami,

Did you get my email about the gift? It would be nice if you’d at least respond to me.

Love,

Mitch

Cami,

I know you’re at work, and you always check your emails at work. Just because you’re trying your hand at being a groupie whore, doesn’t mean you have to be rude. At the very least, you should let me know you haven’t started sending my emails to your spam folder.

Mitch

I cocked my head to the side. The spam folder was the perfect place for Mitch’s emails. I’d be sending all future emails there. For the time being, I still had two more emails to read. On the positive side, Mitch was always brief.

Cami,

There’s no reason to act like a child. Refusing to answer my emails? Blocking my number? After all I’ve done for you, I deserve better than this. I hope you’ll see how ridiculous your behavior is by tomorrow morning.

Love,

Mitch

I rolled my eyes again. It was easy to recognize his game, and I wasn’t willing to play along.

Cami,

What the hell? You sent the police to my house? I’ve never threatened you. I didn’t hit you. Why would you do this to me? Can you even imagine how embarrassed I am by this entire situation?

You owe me a big apology.

Mitch

“What an asshole,” I muttered before reading Xander’s response to my text.

Xander: I’m all yours today, babe. Just let me know when you want me to come over. How’s your head?

Cami: My head is much better today. I slept great, and I’m ready to start the day. How about noon?

It was just after nine, and I still needed to shower and let the police know about Mitch’s emails. Mitch had been much nastier in the last email. He might just be upset about me suggesting to the police that he could be a suspect. If I was innocent and someone told the police I might have tried to seriously injure them, I’d be angry. That explanation would work better for me if Mitch hadn’t already been harassing me.

Xander: Sure. Are you up to going out tomorrow night? Harley wants to go to the VIP room at The Project to hang out with the new security team members. Everyone will be there.

Cami: Sure. It’s my Saturday at the office. I have patients until eight, but I should still make it there before anything exciting happens. I deserve a night out. We can go over details later.

Xander: I’ll see you soon.

I looked at the emails again and decided to shower before calling the police. It was unlikely the detective who’d given me his card was sitting at his desk, waiting for me to call. I figured I might as well get ready before I had to wait for a call back from the police.
