The Judge (Secret Garden Novel - book Book 1) by Katherine Laccomt (22)

Madison

For the last four weeks, I threw myself at my work at the club. We made renovations, added new shows, new employees, new disappointments...

After spending two weeks in Leesburg, I returned to New York and focused all my energy on the Secret Garden. For a month now, I’ve been struggling with my heart, watching Noah parade around as if I’d never been a part of his life. The first few days, it wasn’t easy to see him from afar, but to see him being touched, and hugged by other women, it was excruciating. But I pushed through, I’ve been broken once, I won’t let anyone brake me again.

When we bumped into each other, he just nodded and moved on. I still received news alerts about him circulating on the web, increasingly handsome and, desperately, painful. As the days went by, it got easier, but not less painful.

Today, I decided to do some shopping after I left the club, I need new pants and there’s only one store that sells my favorite brand. It’s not easy to find pants for me, these wide hips are hard to shop for, I always have to adjust it. Thin waist and extremely wide hips, a tough combination. At least I’ll get to distract myself doing some windows shopping and eating at that delicious downtown bakery.

I go into the store and am greeted by my favorite sales girl, she always gives me great discounts, things in this store are expensive. I haven’t slept in two days and the signs of exhaustion are starting to become clear, a strange feeling is hanging around my chest, it must be tiredness. I go to the dressing room with some pants and try each one. I loved them all.

As I’m leaving the dressing room, I see Carly and another woman coming towards me. I hide so she won’t see me and so I’m not forced to punch her in the face, I always try not to punch pregnant women, even if they are lame bitches. I sit back in the dressing room, that’s big enough to be a bedroom, and I wait for them to close the door, so I can get out of here. Then, I hear a very interesting conversation.

“Let me get this straight. You drugged the good judge and didn’t take advantage of the situation to have sex with him?” The woman asks.

“I tried to masturbate him, I even tried a blowjob, but I think I overdid it. I was afraid that one pill wouldn’t be enough, so I gave him two of them. At the end, his dick wouldn’t stand for nothing. I scheduled the insemination for tomorrow, God willing,” Carly replies.

And I’m shocked by what I hear.

“Don’t you think that’s too risky? Noah thinks you’re already in the third month of your gestation, isn’t it too late to be inseminated? How are you gonna explain a 12-month pregnancy?”

“Yeah, I’ve waited too long to do this insemination. I thought that when Noah learned of the pregnancy, he’d be thrilled, and we’d get back together. He is such a family man, I thought I’d become the queen again, we’d have sex and that would be it. But that didn’t happen. Afterwards, I had sex with several guys that looked like him, but I didn’t get pregnant either. Finally, I went to this doctor who did some dirty work for Richard before. I offered him some money, and he agreed to help me. He’ll perform the insemination, and be my doctor throughout the pregnancy, that will last only seven months. Then, he’ll come up with some illness or something to explain the rest. Noah will be so mesmerized with the child that he won’t notice anything else.

“Is he worth all that effort?” The woman asks.

“His money is worth it,” the bitch says, without flinching, “Noah is a millionaire.”

“I didn’t know that magistrates did so well ...”

“They do, but Noah’s fortune comes from the investment group he and his friends founded while they were in college. They did so well that, on the day of their graduation, they had enough fortune to retire.”

“Wow. And how is he in bed?”

“For those who like sex, Noah is perfect,” she pauses and goes on, “He knows how to get a woman in bed and the dick is huge. I’m just not the crazy-for-sex type, all the sweat and effort. To me, sex is a way to get things done. Noah doesn’t turn me on anymore ever since I found out that house was not in my name.”

“Changing the subject, that Congressman O’Donnell is my wet dream. If I get my way with that man, there would be, like, nothing left.”

“I prefer Benjamin. I cornered him twice in the mansion, but the bastard didn’t go for it. He is loyal to his friend, and now he hates me.”

I’m completely stunned by everything I’ve heard that bitch say. How far have we come, me in a dressing room, listening to this bombastic revelation, with my hand in my mouth to avoid making any sound. I take a deep breath and get out there, I stand guard in front of their dressing room, where she’s still talking to her friend. Let’s settle this, CarLame.

As soon as the two little demons come out, they see me, sitting in a luxurious armchair.

“Look who we have here, Miss Bitchskank Porter,” I say, smiling.

“Show some respect, white trash. Now, tell me, is the money you make at the brothel enough for you to buy anything here, Madison? A luxury whore, is that it?”

I smile.

“Luxury Whore is a good way of putting it. What about you? Well, we could call you Crazy Bitch, but I’m not sure, what name would you give to a woman who drugged a guy to suck on his cock?” She turns pale. “That was low, even for you Carly. Drugging the guy so that he would have sex with you is the peak of being a skank and desperate. Because, let’s face it, you’ve hit rock bottom if you try to masturbate a guy while he’s passed out,” I’m starting to laugh, “And the worst part, not even after drugging him, you’ve managed to get him hard.”

She tries to smile but fails.

“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, I’ll tell you. You drugged Noah, made a move on Benjamin and now, you’re planning on insemina....”

“SHUT UP!” she screams.

“Let’s see what the good judge will think about all that.” I pick up my purse and head for the door.

She comes after me, screaming that I couldn’t do that. Poor thing, I can do anything I want! I see that the traffic light is about to turn green, so I run cross the street. Before I reach the other side, I hear tires screeching, I turn around in time to watch as the car throws Carly on the ground.

Oh my God!

I run to her, I can see that she is awaken, but she’s crying. Her friend, in shambles, starts screaming for help. Carly looks at me, smiles wickedly, puts her hand on her belly and shouts:

“My baby. Please, save my baby!”

I’m outraged. The woman has just been run over and still she keeps up with the charade.

“There’s no baby, you crazy bitch,” I tell her.

Then, when I think nothing else can surprise me, life shows me the opposite.

“Oh my God. Why do you hate me so much, Madison? Did you want me to lose my baby? God, you’re a monster!”

“No…” I try to argue, but people start to come up to me, and the two crazy women still say it was my fault.

Two women insulted me, and a guy thought it was best if I walked away so as not to aggravate the situation. I get dizzy, how did that bitch manage to turn the tables on me like that? I hear the ambulance, it gets there quickly and tends to her. I stand there, puzzled, looking at the whole situation and wondering what I should do. Finally, I decide to go to the hospital that she was probably taken to, I won’t let that bitch come out on top.

I call a cab and head for the nearest emergency room. As soon as I get there, I ask about her and I make my way to her room to see she was being examined. Watching from afar, I can see that Carly is well, she and her friend are talking to a nurse for a long time, as if they were plotting something. That’s odd. I feel like I’m spying on a witches’ gathering. A chill goes through my body. God no!

As soon as the nurse leaves, I walk over and I’m clearly not welcome.

“What do you want, Madison?” Carly asks without patience.

“I came to ask how a person can be so cruel. You’re not pregnant, I heard you talking to your friend, and yet, you’ll keep up the act.”

They look at each other and smile. Carly turns to me.

“And you’ll be a very important part of my plan to get Noah back.”

“How?” I think I just went deaf again.

Carly starts to cry and ask why. Guys, the woman is crazy. She continues to ask Why I wanted to kill her, getting the attention of everyone around. The scrawny friend hugs her and asks me to have compassion on a woman who may have just lost her child because of me.

“NO!” I answer in desperation.

Noah chooses this exact moment to arrive and the whole situation it’s weird. My heart tightens.

“What’s wrong?” He asks her, while looking at me.

“Oh Noah...” She cries desperately. The scene is shocking, the woman should be an actress. “I got run over and I think I lost our baby,” Noah goes pale.

“My God! There is no baby,” I say before I can filter my thoughts.

Carly shouts, “Why did you do that, Madison? This child is everything to me. Why do you want us to suffer like this?” she points at me, “She threatened me, and I left the store, I was distressed, I didn’t see the cars...” she cries again, “Now I’m here...”

Noah looks at me, “Did you threaten her?”

“Sure... I mean… No! Not this kind of threat ...” Everything was so confusing. I wasn’t sure of what I was saying anymore.

The crazy friend steps in, “I was there, and I saw her threatening Carly, who left in a hurry, to get away from her, and ended up being run over on the street.”

He turns to me, “Why, Madison?”

“There is no child. I heard her...”

The nurse from before comes back and drops the bomb.

“Unfortunately, you’ve lost the baby.”

Everything around me goes into slow motion. Carly’s scream, her friend comforting her and the pain in Noah’s eyes. He runs his hand through his hair, goes to Carly, and holds her tight. He says sweet words to her, promising to do anything to make her happy again.

I can’t believe what is happening, God must be very angry with me. I think I was one of the nails that nailed him to the cross, it can only be. He comes towards me, pulls me out of the room and I try to tell him what really happened.

“Noah, she was not pregnant ...”

“Enough, Madison! Please, enough,” he says in a low voice. Noah was devastated. “I don’t want to believe you’re so cold that you wouldn’t feel compassion for a man who just lost his unborn child.”

“Noah, give me some credit...”

His pain is so great it’s palpable.

“Give you the same credit you denied me?”

“That was different...”

He chuckles in disgust.

“It was different because it benefited you. I’m aware. Please, Madison, have mercy on me right now, okay? I won’t hold it against you, the fact that she lost her baby running from you. And, yes, I know you, I know that you tongue is sharp.”

I hold his shirt and say, “Noah, no. Please... Let me...” The disdain in his eyes, immediately makes me let go of him, I take a step back. He hates me...

Oh My God, the love of my life hates me ...

I leave the hospital completely wracked, I look up the sky and see that heavy clouds are closing in. I start to walk and, like me, the sky also cries. The cold rain contrasts with the warmth of my tears. God, what have I done?

I walk aimlessly until I have no more tears to cry and my clothes are completely soaked. I sit on a bench in the middle of the park and someone shouts that staying under a tree in a thunderstorm is dangerous, lightning could hit me. I smile, who knows, maybe I’m lucky enough for that to actually happen. Dying right now, to me, it wouldn’t be so bad!

No Sir! I’m not going to let that miserable bitch get the better of me. It’s not right, for him to suffer for a child that didn’t even exist. What the fuck, Madison! Wallowing again? Let’s put an end to that Bitch’s plans. Rebecka ... Rebecka will know what to do, I hope...

I walk over to her house, which is a hell of a long way, I knock on the door and one of the maids comes to the door. She lets me in and I wait for Rebecka in the hallway, since I’m soaked. Soon, Becka shows up.

“Madison. Oh Lord, You’re all wet...”

“Becka, you gotta help me. Noah hates me because I killed his baby. But it’s not true... You have to believe me!”

She runs her hand over my forehead to see if I’m hallucinating due to a fever.

“Easy now, Maddie. First of all, let’s get you changed.”

Becka asks one of her maids for some tea and takes me up to her bedroom. She helps me take off my clothes and gets me under a hot shower. When I get out, I realize that I’m trembling. I dry myself, wrap a towel in my hair and see the clothes Rebecka brought me.

As soon as I leave the bathroom, she’s waiting for me, sitting in her white armchair, with a tea tray beside. I sit in front of her.

“Feeling better?” she asks me kindly. I nod. “Now, tell me what’s all this, about Noah hating you?”

She hands me a cup of sweet and delicious tea.

“I-I was in the dressing room when Carly and a friend came in, I hid because I didn’t want any trouble. Then I overheard their conversation,” I pause and stare at her. I want Rebecka to see the truth in my eyes, “She said she drugged Noah, that they didn’t have sex, and that she scheduled an insemination procedure for tomorrow, because she wasn’t pregnant yet. When they left the dressing room, I was waiting for her, and I told her I’d make sure Noah found out about everything. Carly started screaming, and ran after me, and then she got run over by a car.”

Rebecka had her hand on her mouth.

“Oh my God, Madison...”

I give out a desolated smile.

“At the hospital, she screamed that I wanted to kill her unborn child. A nurse came in and confirmed that she lost the baby that didn’t even exist. Noah thinks that I caused the death of his child and I saw the hatred in his eyes,” I kneel before her, and my tears are pouring down again, “Rebecka, I would never do that. I’m not a monster. Please, tell me you believe me. Help me get Noah out of this, he’s mourning a child that never existed.”

She pulls me into her arms and holds me tight,

“I believe you, my dear. And we’re going to save Noah from that woman. We will.”

She led me to the bed, covered me and stood beside me. I was finally feeling sleepy.

“Thank you for believing in me. What are we going to do?”

She smiles, “You’re just gonna sleep and rest for a while. I can handle the rest. Sleep now, Madison, sweet dreams...”

And I fell asleep...
