Tomorrow: Kingsley series book 1 by Haylee Thorne (21)

If you would have told me a couple of months ago that I would meet a woman, obsess over her, and fall head over heels I would have laughed in your face and most likely would have said something offensive. But today, I can’t describe what I feel for her with any other phrase than complete and utter consumption. I have brokered some of the most innovating business deals of the decade and easily tripled my family’s already vast fortune. I have traveled the globe and I have mastered pretty much everything I have ever set my mind to yet nothing, not a damn thing, comes close to the level of satiety I feel having her here with me in my bed where no other woman has ever been. This is by far the most satisfying feeling I have ever had. She sighs in her sleep like she so often does and, as ridiculous as that sounds, it is comforting to me. It is my new second favorite sound she makes, my favorite being the sounds she makes when I am pushing into her. My cellphone is on the nightstand and lights up the dark room. I look over at the clock and see that it is already 7:42 a.m. I cannot remember the last time I have slept this late. I pick up my cell and see a message from Sean. Apparently, there are a couple of detectives that want to speak to me. I wasn’t aware that they made house calls. I am about to message Eric when another message from Sean pops up to inform me that Eric is waiting for me in my office with the detectives.

“That man really does deserve a raise,” I quietly mumble to myself.

I slip out of bed, careful not to wake Raeva. She needs to sleep. I woke her up a few times last night and I think I might have worn her out. Thinking about last night makes me want to climb right back into bed and between those legs but I have people waiting on me and my woman needs her rest. I enter my walk-in closet and pull a pair of jeans from the shelf and put on the first t-shirt I see. When I am dressed, I walk into the kitchen to find that Rose, my housekeeper, already put out my coffee. I pick up the cup and walk into my office.

“Good morning, gentlemen,” I greet the three men in my office.

Eric raises an eyebrow when he notes my casual attire. He’s not used to seeing me this casual anymore. Not since our college days, I would wager. I ignore the question that I read in his eyes as I walk to my chair and take my seat behind the desk.

“Good morning, Mr. Kingsley,” A heavy-set man with an unfortunate mustache says in greeting. “I am Detective Franklin and this is my partner, Detective Taylor.” He gestures over to the lanky guy seated next to him.

“What can I do for you this morning?”

Unfortunate mustache guy starts talking.

“We have reason to believe that your sister’s accident was not an accident at all.”

I am having a hard time focusing on what he is saying. The piece of food that is stuck in his mustache is completely destroying this man’s credibility.

“Are you insinuating that my client has anything to do with what happened to his sister?”

Okay, that definitely gets my attention. My head snaps up and I meet Eric’s eyes. What the fuck, I need to pay attention to this conversation. The lanky detective chimes in.

“No, we are not under the impression that Mr. Kingsley has any involvement in the alleged foul play regarding Ms. Kingsley’s… um… accident.” He nervously looks up at his partner.

I look back over to mustache guy and try to focus on anything but the hairbrush with food above his upper lip. His ill-fitting suit has very questionable stains on them.

“So what is it that you want from my client?” Eric demands.

Unfortunate mustache leans closer as if he is sharing a secret.

“We have reason to believe that someone is targeting your family. We would like to offer you police protection until we find out who is targeting you and your sister.”

My mind immediately jumps to Raeva. If someone is targeting my sister and I, Raeva will be a target too.

“I have my own security team, but I thank you for the generous offer. I would like to be kept in the loop about this investigation though,” I say and smile politely.

I am boiling on the inside. The idea of anyone hurting Mikaela or laying a finger on my Raeva puts me in a murderous frame of mind. Eric has been my best friend for as long as I can remember and he knows me better than most. I know that he has gauged my mood and as usual he has my back.

“Mr. Kingsley will be available to you if you need any assistance. We have his security under control.”

“Yes, of course, but I would like some more information on how exactly you came to the conclusion that someone is targeting my family.”

The lanky detective speaks up again.

“Mr. Kingsley, someone did their very best to frame you for the attempt on your sister’s life. When you were ruled out as a suspect, we had to assume that someone is trying to frame you. And now that they have failed, they might find that getting rid of you another way is easier.”

“I see,” I say as I stand and hold my hand out to unfortunate mustache guy. “Thank you, gentlemen, for taking the time to come see me this morning. I know that you must be busy.”

I shake his hand and then I hold my hand out for the lanky one. I’m relieved to find that they understand my not so subtle hint. Eric takes over and walks the men out. I call Sean into my office. As usual he is already up to speed.

“Sir, I already have a team investigating these claims. I will report to you as soon as they report to me.”

“Thank you, Sean.”

“Of course, sir.”

“Sean, this Clark guy, is he good enough to protect Raeva if need be?”

“Sir, Clark is one of the best in the business. I’ve vetted him myself.”

I nod.

“Okay then.”

Sean tips his hat and leaves my office. Eric comes back and informs me that he has some business to attend to, which suits me just fine because all I want to do right now is crawl into bed and wake up the gorgeous creature snoozing there. I don’t bother walking Eric out. He knows his way around. I say goodbye and walk into my bedroom. I shed the clothes I put on earlier and drop them on the floor before carefully climbing into the bed and pull Raeva against me. I chuckle when she grumbles. She is not a morning person and although her crankiness should bother me, I find it adorable.

“Good morning, sunshine,” I whisper in her ear.

“Ugh…what time is it?”

“It is about elevenish,” I say, kissing the top of her head.

“Crap.” She shoots up. “I am supposed to meet with Jill at home.”

The cover falls off her as she tries to get up, revealing her amazing breasts, and I am immediately hungry for her. I run my finger from her collarbone to her sternum.

“I think that you are going to be a little later,” I tell her.

“Is that a fact?” she teases.

I lean in and take a nipple into my mouth. Raeva sucks in a breath. When my hand slides in between her legs I feel the evidence of her arousal and it only further fuels for my fire.

“I think it is safe to say that the answer is yes,” I say, unable to keep the cockiness out of my voice.

She moans as I slide a finger into her and when I feel how ready she is for me I know that I can’t wait much longer.

“Would you like me to stop so that you can leave?” I taunt her.

“Don’t you dare stop, Kingsley. You got me hot and bothered. I need to come.”

“Your wish is my command,” I tell her.

And I intend to keep that promise, at least a handful of times, before she gets to leave my bed.
