Glint (Phoenix in Flames Book 5) by Catty Diva (6)

Chapter 6

Saved

He looked across the aisle where George and Sandria sat looking worried. Thankfully Berri and his family had somehow gotten off the planet. It would have been easier to make a list of those not involved in the conspiracy to take this world and others away from the Mazlans. These foolish people had no idea what they were getting into to.

The Thespers might say they would let them rule themselves, but he didn’t see an ounce of benevolence in these creatures. If they managed to gain power, they would drain this world dry. Viewers would become little more than slaves to the allies they had hoped to pair up with. Foolish greedy people, that’s all they were.

If he were Razar, he would seriously think about pulling all his people and resources and letting this world fend for themselves. He knew the problem with that was it gave the enemy a foothold. Allowing them a place in Mazlan space would not be good. These Thespers were violent to the extreme and savvy when it came to war.

Razar was good, especially if you considered he’d had little battle experience. It looked like that might change in the foreseeable future. Delay it? Maybe, but eventually it would come. His people would be drawn in as well, even though they only wanted peace. To hold their resources back would be unthinkable.

If the Mazlans fell, they would all be lost. Even now as the shuttle headed toward the station where Thespers or their henchmen lay in wait for them, he had no regrets about serving the Mazlans so they could prepare for war. The regrets he did have were over those two lovely females sitting across the aisle from him.

“The station is in sight. Do we have a plan?” George asked.

“Sandria is in her robe and can slip away.” He handed Sandria his com for access to the ship. “While she escapes, we will hold the Thespers back and keep them busy.”

“Agreed.” George said with no second thought. She was a warrior.

“I will send help.” Sandria said. She realized there was no point in all three of them dying. It was even possible she had a plan of her own.

“The shuttle is coming in to dock. Do as we have decided. Hurry, Sandria and you will get clear.” Sandria nodded and George gave him a fierce look. He’d wanted to see her fight, just no like this.

It served no purpose to see her battle to the death in a fight she couldn’t win. At least they would save Sandria from a fate worse than death. That, it seemed, was the best they could do. The shuttle came to a full stop and people began to unsnap their safety harnesses.

“Everyone please remove your safety harnesses and gather all your belongings. Exit to the door closest to you in an orderly fashion. Thank you.” The copilot directed.

Sandria slipped into the crowd unnoticed as Glint hung back with George. They would be looking for a man with a lovely lady and a boy. He was thankful one of them would escape. Everyone was off except them and the shuttle crew was giving them looks. Nodding at George, he stepped forward with her behind him.

He saw the males waiting for them at the edge of the area where the crowd disembarked. There would be no help from the crowd even if they disapproved of the actions of these males. George stepped in behind him as he approached the door. To deny he felt fear would be a lie, but his fear was more for the lovely female he had hoped someday to mate.

As he exited the shuttle, the dangerous males that worked for the Thespers moved into position to prevent their escape. Once they were off the shuttle, his female moved into position beside him looking as courageous as he’d ever seen anyone look. Pride swelled inside him even as sorrow rolled over him.

They took a couple steps forward and the males took steps toward them. “Drop your weapons and get on your knees.” A loud voice instructed.

The males surrounding them looked at around as he did. These were not males he knew, but he recognized the black uniforms with a gray design. They were the special forces of Razar’s military. One of the males near them started to turn to shoot and dropped to his knees, a hole perfectly in the center of his forehead.

The Special Forces males moved in and many of the enemy immediately surrendered. They weren’t paid enough to give their lives in the service of their employers. “Sandria works quickly.” George joked.

It was obvious this was not Sandria’s work. This had been in place before they had even left their rooms. Perhaps Berri had warned Razar. If so he would buy him a drink. An officer approached.

“Glint?” He asked.

“Yes. You are?”

“Samuel. Razar wanted me to tell you George shares better than you do. She kept him informed of the information she had found. This allowed us to move into place. Night Song is waiting for you. You’ll be taken to Oison to debrief.”

They followed Samuel. Most of this team were humans, no surprise since the Mazlan numbers were small in comparison to humans. Even with phoenix in the military, the area Mazlan space encompassed was huge. Razar paid well enough to get only the best and brightest. The number of them he had to choose from was immense since the Earth’s military had collapsed.

While Razar protected Earth, he did so from a distance. Keeping peace on Earth was in the hands of those left living on her. It was sad that the planet had gone to hell, but at least some of her people had found refuge among the Mazlans. For now they were on a Mazlan shuttle headed to the Night Song. Apparently Sandria had already found these guys and was on a shuttle ahead of them.

The Night Song was Razar’s newest most high tech spy ship. She could also disappear and she had plenty of the latest weaponry. She was smaller than the other warships, but fighting wasn’t her main job. This sophisticated ship was made to slip in and out of anywhere to rescue people who were trapped like he, Sandria, and George had been. The ship was stealthy and managed to gather information everywhere she went.

Looking ahead in space, he saw nothing, but he knew she was there. Just before they entered the bay, the air wavered and he saw a hint of the ship. Once inside he saw everything clearly. “This ship rocks.” George whispered.

“It has tech we bought off the Zelfors. They have the top of the line electronics, computers, and communication equipment.” Samuel replied. “Razar wanted you to look at it to see if you could run it. The guys assigned there right now are barely adequate.”

George suddenly was full of energy. He could feel the excitement coming off her. It had been his hope they could have talked for a while. That didn’t look like it was going to happen now. “Where will we stay?”

“We only have two rooms and everyone else is doubled up. The ship is small. Divide up as you prefer between the three of you.” Samuel said.

He turned to look at George. “What do you prefer?”

“I guess I’ll hang with you. I’ve gotten used to it.” She replied. It was his hope he could convince her to get closer to him now that the mission was over.

“One of the rooms has two queen beds.” Samuel said.

“Glint and I will take that one and let Sandria take the other.” George said. Dare he hope he was growing on her?

Once they arrived they were escorted to their bedroom. “When would you like to be escorted to communications?” Samuel asked looking at George.

“Let me grab a change of clothes and take a shower. Do I need to call for an escort?” She asked.

“That would be best. There’s a buzzer inside your door. Ring whenever you’re ready.” Samuel said as they stepped into the room he’d opened. Turning, he hurried away.

There was no telling what was going on down on the planet. All the team that had saved them had left with them. He’d bet a dollar that Razar was about to send troops to keep the peace and ferret out spies on Bell View. Too many of those that had begged him to help them had now turned against him.

Only two choices were left, abandon them or occupy the planet. The last choice was best if he didn’t want to give the enemy a base in Mazlan territory. As far as he was concerned, he was glad to be out of there. His eyes moved to George who was looking at him.

“I guess you’ll have a break until we hit Oison.” George observed.

“In my dreams. It will be no time before they come up with something for me to do. Mark my words.”

George nodded in understanding and grabbed some clothes out of her bag before rushing into Thirty minutes later she came out of the bathroom fully dressed smelling of soap. “I guess I’ll go now.”

When she left he was alone with little to do. Maybe he wouldn’t mind a task assigned to him if she was going to be gone most of the time. For the next few hours, he watched a movie and rested on the bed thinking of George. It was almost a surprise when she came back.

“Done for the day?” He asked.

“I am. Want to get supper with me?”

Just like that, the first date, sort of, and she had asked him. They headed down the hall as he followed George to the cafeteria. The food smelled wonderful, better than usual on a warship. They got in line and the food available looked much better and had a larger variety than he normally saw.

“Ladonna and Patty took over running the cafeterias for Razar. All the guys are much happier. The food is healthier too.” George whispered.

“That was a smart move.” He admitted. Long overdue too.

They filled their plates. Even George ate more than usual. They sat with Sandria who was already at a table. Eating, they also carried on small talk until they were done with their food. At that point they walked to their rooms together until they reached Sandria’s first.

“Good night you two. Behave yourselves.” Sandria said as she slipped into her room.

“Like we could get into trouble here.” George said with a snort. It was obvious she didn’t understand what Sandria was referring to.

Moving down to their door, he opened it and she walked in ahead of him. “Samuel said we were meeting up with the Night Ghost. It will take us to Oison. The tech on this ship is amazing. He said they are putting the same systems on all the ships and on Oison.” George informed.

“I’d heard something about that. It seems the Thespers have more advanced tech than we currently do. That’s why Razar is desperate to get it done. Problem is we don’t have people that can run it.”

“I can. It is similar to some tech I used on Earth.” George admitted. “They bought it on the black market and it was very hush hush. It was no picnic to figure out but they put me on it full time and I wrote instructions for its use. I bet I can still access them.”

“If you could and you updated it, Razar would be a happy guy.” He teased.

“I think I can do that. Tomorrow, I’ll see if I can.” George said.

“What are we going to do tonight?” He asked.

“What do you want to do?” George asked innocently.

He couldn’t help himself. She stood close to him, close enough he could smell her delightful musky scent. Pulling her into his arms, he kissed her softly tasting those sweet lips he’d been driven crazy by for so long. If she pushed him away he would stop, but she didn’t.

Her lips opened under his tongue’s gentle exploration. The flavor of her mouth was spicy and sweet. It made him want more so his hands started an exploration of their own. George moaned as her arms wrapped around him and her body moved against him.

She pulled back her wide eyes staring at him. “What happening here?”

“I feel something between us. I’m drawn to you and I’d like to explore that if you’re alright with it.”

George blushed a bright pink and she looked at the floor bashful. “I’ve never been around a guy romantically before.”

“I can take it as slow as you want.” She nodded and he pulled her back into his arms.

This kiss was just like the first one. It made his heart beat faster and his breathing speed up. Somehow he hoped to convince her to be his before they got to Oison. If they were mated before they got there, Razar would reassign them so they would be together. Usually a newly mated female could leave the service, but George was too talented for Razar to lose.

They snuggled as they watched a movie and when it was bedtime, he held her as they went to sleep. It wasn’t like they hadn’t slept in the same bed for two weeks. Only this time he held her as she slept. Possessive feelings washed over him as he went to sleep.

A few days passed and George had been working with the two communications officers several hours a day and updating the instructions on using the new equipment she had pulled off her old online account. He had also been working part time researching some of the leading citizens on Bell View and a handful of other planets Razar had determined were a concern. He didn’t mind working since George was busy anyway.

Their relationship had progressed, but not as quickly as he’d hoped for. They touched and kissed a lot, but hadn’t moved to the naked stage. When he thought about her, he ached and his cock was rock hard. It was his hope that tonight he would break through any reservations she might have and finally show her good they could be together.

“What is all this?” George asked when she entered their rooms.

He’d set up a romantic meal for her. The food was on the table with a candle in the center and bouquet of mixed flowers near it. That candle was scented and the perfume was sweet and light.

“This is for me?” She asked.

“I hoped you would like it.”

“It’s beautiful.”
