Glint (Phoenix in Flames Book 5) by Catty Diva (8)

Chapter 8

Oison

Mated! He couldn’t believe he’d found his one. They were now together after weeks of trying to convince her to be his. The trip would have been shorter, but they stopped along the edge of Mazlan space at several planets, stations, and populated moons to pick up passengers. These must be people of military significance or political importance. Then again, Razar did things differently than most leaders.

This time with his mate was wonderful. They were now getting to know each other on a physical and spiritual level. “Tell me more about your people.” George demanded.

He told her the tales of the old days when Phoenix had been hunted on many words and how they’d split up and spread out so much, they couldn’t find each other anymore. “So now we can’t say how many of our kind there are. We’ve searched with no success.”

“That’s so sad. They’re probably afraid if they come out into the open they’ll be hunted again.” George observed.

“That may well be true. We hid for thousands of years.”

“How long before we get there?”

“You’re like a young one.” He said, but he was ready to arrive also.

They finally made it to the Mazlans ruling world. Things had been different once their relationship was established and George was slowly coming out of her shell. Her hair was down which he loved. Right now she wasn’t even wearing the hat that she used to hide beneath all the time. She was in uniform, but now she wore one that fit like it should.

Razar and Lista stood there as they exited the shuttle greeting those who came from the ship. He motioned them over. “I hear congratulations are in order.”

“Yes, we’ve mated.” He replied. Lista hugged George who looked surprised.

His mate wasn’t the most hands on person so that was to be expected. She was coming around, but she would move at her own speed.

“George, we’re so glad to meet you. I was wondering if you could do us a favor.” Lista asked. “There’s a new human female that will be arriving soon and she’s been through a lot. She doesn’t know anyone and while I’ll do what I can, I’d like her to have more than just me to look to for advice.”

George nodded. Lista just looked at her. “I will help. I’ll need to meet her.”

“That works out well because here she comes.” Razar said.

The woman looked about George’s size but she work coveralls like the mechanics usually did. She also wore a hat much like the one George used to wear. Her sunglasses further camouflaged her and he couldn’t really tell what she looked like.

“Teresa!” Lista said loudly and the woman approached them.

“Lista?” Her voice was soft.

“Yes, I’m so happy you’re here. This is Glint and his mate George. She is also from Earth like the two of us are. She’s agreed to help if you have any questions or concerns. Oison is new to her too so maybe you can explore together.” Lista said.

“I’m sure once we get our work done we can look around.” Teresa said.

“What do you do?’ George asked.

“I’m a spy.” Teresa said looking around to see if anyone heard.

“My job is similar to yours. I’m a communications office.” George admitted.

“That’s interesting. I didn’t think the Mazlans had any tech heads.” Teresa observed.

“You never know what a military unit has. They keep it secret.” George noted.

“Well now that we’ve spilled all our secrets, why don’t we inside and have some refreshments?” Razar asked.

“Where’s my babysitter?” Teresa quizzed.

“You mean Flicker?” Razar wondered.

“I do. I’ve been with him nonstop the whole trip here. It feels almost weird not to have him following me around.” Teresa declared.

“I gave him some time off. He hasn’t had any in a few months and he went home for a break. He’ll be back in a week or so.” Razar explained. “Whenever you leave the guest housing, you only need to go to the guard house and they’ll assign you an escort.”

“Alrighty. At least I’ll have some time to myself in my room.” Teresa said. She didn’t really sound all that happy about it. He wondered if his friend may have found his one.

“Glint can escort you and his mate to the housing. They’ll have you on the list and get you into you quarters. We won’t do anything until the morning after you’ve rested.” Razar assured.

“We’ll go right now.” He agreed. Taking his mates arm, he motioned to Teresa and they headed toward the guest housing which was within easy walking distance.

The building loomed ahead. “Is that it?” Teresa asked. “It looks like a modern hotel on Earth.”

“It’s even better with its high tech additions. There’s a spa, a pool, and a game room as well as a restaurant or cafeteria. You can eat at either without charge. The cafeteria is good for a quick meal. Their restaurant is a gourmet experience. I believe you’ll enjoy the food. You can also order clothing and personal care products by calling the desk.”

“Sounds almost too good to be true.” Teresa commented. “Will you two be working while you’re here?”

“Part of the time. Our assignments are being set up and we don’t know how long we’ll be here. What about you?” George asked.

“Oh, I’ll be working the whole time. When the job is done, I’ll be settling here.” Teresa confirmed.

“I’ve heard so much about this place. It’s so different from Earth. You need to be careful around the ocean though because these huge creatures can get you if you stand too close. The dessert also has many large predators.” George informed.

“Lista told me about that too. She had personal experience. I bet that scared the shit out of her.” Teresa giggled.

“Would me.” George admitted.

He just walked beside his mate and listened to her and Teresa chit chat. It pleased him that George was making a friend. Lista was trying to help Teresa, but it would help George as well. He wasn’t sure his mate had ever had a female friend before. Had they stayed on the ship with Ladonna, he was certain they would have become friends.

That night after doing all the usual things to settle in, they went shopping for everything they needed and ate out at the nicer restaurant. The evening had been pleasant and they were tired when they turned in but they went to sleep knowing they would meet with Razar the next day.

Razar met with them the next day. “I’ll let you set your own schedule based on two rules. Most out of date first and convenience is also calculated in. You will go from ship to ship and Glint will go with you. He’ll handle your team.”

George got to work on her schedule immediately and he was amazed at how organized she was. He had enough to do helping to select her team and determining what each member would do. His mate got her schedule done long before the team was selected and organized. She filled in her time doing things with Teresa.

They did become friends and he hated that his mate worried so much about her new friend. A few days before they deployed, Flicker came back to Oison.

“How are you doing Brother?”

“I’m doing well enough. I heard congratulations were in order?” Flicker mentioned.

“I’m mated. She’s a wonderful female. What about you?”

“Razar put me in charge of this Earth female. The woman drives me crazy. I’m not sure how I feel about her. She’s beautiful, but hard to understand.”

“Just stay calm and let things happen however they will.”

He didn’t see Flicker or Teresa after that because they left to begin their task of revamping the fleet’s communications systems. It was alright, he knew he’d see them again and he wondered if they’d be mated when he did.
