Black and Blue: Black Star Security by Cynthia Rayne (16)

Epilogue

Six months later…

A lot of things changed in Annie’s world.

Now, Annie was a permanent part of the team, and she couldn’t be happier. Working for Black Star was even better than the Marshal Service. And she had a man at her side who’d never let her down, under any circumstances.

The business was booming, too. Black Star Security had gotten credit for bringing in two of the three fugitives and West was fielding offers from both state and local law enforcement. He had enough to make payroll and pay off a healthy chunk of the small business loan he’d taken out.

Life was moving on for Becky, too. Mike had been laid to rest, and Becky was dating someone new. She’d met a man at work, and she seemed happy once more.

“Are you sure we can afford this?” Annie asked West.

“Yeah, I’m positive. Things will be tight, but we’ll make it work.” He set a stack of three boxes in the corner of their rented two bedroom house, which was located near HQ.

“I didn’t mind sharing your bedroom.”

“I did.”

She swatted his arm.

“You didn’t let me finish. I hated bein’ quiet all the goddamn time.” He winked and a rush of warmth flooded her. “I don’t know about you, but I’m lookin’ forward to some noisy sex.”

She smirked. He wasn’t the only one.

And then a godawful racket startled them both—off key singing, stomping, and an up-tempo version of Blue Moon of Kentucky sung by Savannah Summers.

It was coming from the roof.

Annie frowned. “What the hell….?”

Both of them tore out the front door and down the front steps to see King, Zane, Nox, Mack, Stormy, and even Huck on the roof. A tall ladder stood beside the porch, and a boom box sat next to their stamping feet.

“What the fuck are you doin’?” West called.

“It’s a roof stomp,” Huck called over the racket. “It’s an old Air Force tradition to celebrate special occasions. Welcome home!”

Annie laughed. She hurried over to the ladder so she could join the team and celebrate her new life.

West was right behind her.

Singing the Blues

Former Navy SEAL, Thomas King, lost his wife in the most painful way imaginable. Now, he’s a member of the Black Star Security team, and when King’s favorite singer, Savannah Summers, is nearly killed, he steps up to be her bodyguard.  It’s a dream come true for King. He’s been her biggest fan for years, and her music helped him through the darkest time in his life.

There’s only one problem. She’s even prettier in person and King doubts he’ll be able to keep this professional.

A Brush with Death

Savannah Summers is afraid for her life. Someone is trying to kill her, and they got pretty damn close to taking her out. Savvy doesn’t have a clue who wants her dead or why. And she doesn’t know what to make of her large and in charge bodyguard whose hellbent on protecting her.

Will this be her swan song? Or can King neutralize the threat? And will they be able to keep their hands off one another?

Black and White

“Two hundred!”

With a Herculean groan, King set the kettle bells down, grabbed a towel and wiped his sweaty face. After showering, he headed downstairs to the kitchen, seized a cast iron frying pan and made himself scrambled eggs, veggies, and some sausage while the coffee brewed. It was a little after four in the morning, and the house was quiet, just the way he liked it.

After he finished making breakfast, he headed into the living room and ordered Google Home to turn on the TV. They had a massive flat screen television which took up a large portion of one wall. He sat on the sectional sofa, propped his feet up and shoveled the food into his mouth. Due to his six foot plus frame, King required a lot of fuel. Workouts always made him ravenous.

He flipped through the channels, until he found the news, and half listened as the reporter droned on about the stock market. King nearly choked when a headline flashed across the bottom of the screen. Singer, Savannah Summers, injured in an attack. After thumbing up the volume, he leaned forward, listening intently as the anchorman spoke.

“According to the hospital spokesperson, her injuries were minor, and she is expected to make a full recovery. The singer has canceled the European leg of her world tour and is reportedly heading home to the United States. Her publicist has declined to answer questions about the incident. Instead, she read a written statement, saying Summers will be resting and recovering with her loved ones.”

Meaning she was headed to Kentucky? Her folks lived in the area and Savvy had a house near them, too.

The reporter moved on to another news segment, and King frantically flipped through channels, seeking more details, but they were frustratingly few and far between. He grabbed his phone and checked Savvy’s social media channels, looking for updates, but all he found was well wishes from her fans. He posted one himself before he tossed the phone down with disgust.

Since her security team had failed her, maybe she was in the market for a new bodyguard?

Like, say, Black Star Security?

Savvy wouldn’t have gotten hurt on his watch, that’s for damn sure.

Bellowing for West, King took the stairs two at a time. They had to contact her publicist and offer their services.

No, offer his services.
