Jack pushed the button and listened to the end of the recording a second time. Then his eyes came up to mine, surprise making them wider and darker than they normally were.

“He could have just as easily killed you, Remy.”

“I know.”

“You could be lying in some parking lot somewhere, beaten to within an inch of your life,” Brent said.

“I know.”

“You shouldn’t have done it.” Jack shook his head, staring at the laptop that held the recording. “Even I wouldn’t have done something that insane.”

“You said we needed more evidence, but you guys clearly didn’t have any ideas.”

“Where did you get the papers, Rem?” Brent wanted to know.

“Violet made copies. They were in her duffle bag down in the safe room.”

“What did you hand over to that cop?” Jack demanded to know.

“Copies of the copies. I have the originals in a safe downstairs.”

Brent laughed as he, like me, watched the look of admiration and complete disbelief wash over Jack’s face. I wasn’t sure what he was struggling with more, the idea that I’d managed to pull it off or that the plan was more brilliant than anything he’d done.

“Is it enough?”

Jack sighed. “Yeah, Remy, it’s enough.”

“Then he’s going down?”

“I have a friend in Homeland Security. I’ve already emailed him a copy of the video.”

I smiled hugely, my jaws sore the moment it bloomed. I turned to Brent and he nodded, moving his hands in a mock round of applause.

“Now you see what I’m capable of. I can take care of myself.” I turned back to Jack. “Now will you allow me to be a part of Stone Security? It’s the family business, for God’s sake!”

Jack studied me for a long moment, cursing softly as he did. “Yeah. I don’t see how we can keep you out after this.”

“I totally agree,” Brent said.

“But you have to tell Leonard he’s demoted.”

I burst into the safe room a short time later and jumped into Bo’s arms, kissing him all over his face. He laughed as he tilted his head, trying to catch my lips with his.

“To what do I owe this?” he finally asked.

“It’s over, babe. We’re free.”

He set me down on my feet and studied my face. “What did you do?”

“I got West on tape admitting to money laundering, to threatening to have me killed, to gaslighting Violet, to setting you up. He’s going down, Bo!”

He touched my face, took it between both his hands and tilted it back so that I was staring up into his eyes. II knew I should have called Jack when I saw you in my office. You took the button camera, didn’t you?”

I nodded.

“And you went to see him?”

“I did. And he had me searched and then searched me himself, but he never found it.”

“Where did you hide it?”

I was wearing a new blouse, one without as many missing buttons, but it didn’t matter. I hadn’t worn the button on my blouse. I opened a few buttons on the blouse and pulled it apart, brushing my finger on a ribbon flower hot glued to the front of my bra, right there in the center between my full breasts.

“He never even saw it. Too distracted by my boobs, I think.”

Bo stared at me for a long moment and then he leaned his head back and roared with laughter. “That is my girl!”

I laughed, too, the rush of adrenaline that had come with the whole thing, especially the success of it all, intoxicating. It was better than a whole case of beer. But so was Bo’s touch and when he reached for me again, I didn’t care about where we were, who might walk in, or anything that had happened these last few hours. I just wanted him.

He lifted me up and my legs automatically wrapped themselves around his waist, my shoes flying from my feet. We kissed like it was the first time, our mouths fitting together like they’d been made for each other. His hands slipped over my thighs, coming under my skirt with a purpose. My panties were thin, not the sensible kind my mother had always encouraged me to wear. They fell away with very little struggle, twenty dollars down the drain just like that. But then his fingers were dancing that dance he’d taught me last night and I was lost once again.

Would I ever get enough of his touch? Would it ever be too familiar? Would it ever become routine?

I wasn’t sure, but I couldn’t wait to find out.
