Alpha by Tiya Rayne (24)

Epilogue

The sound of laughter woke me from my sleep. My eyes popped open, and the breeze from the open window blew in warm air. The smell of fresh cut grass and morning dew hit my senses. I heard the laughter again.  I turned my head to find my three sons watching me.

“Mommy, you have to wake up. Sister is hungry,” Adam, my oldest, said.

When I first found out that Alpha and the other super soldiers could communicate telepathically, I was amazed. Then I realized that the entire time I was pregnant with Adam, they had been doing the same with me. Only they weren’t communicating with me directly because I’m not part of their species. They were talking to Adam, who relayed the messages to me. All those times words would pop into my head, it was my son talking to me. Now that I’m pregnant with our daughter, the boys like to talk to her.

“I’ll get up, but where is your father?”

“Outside with Uncle Beta,” Zinan, my second born son, said.

“Ok, I’ll get up in a moment. I promise.”

Zinan grabbed his youngest brother Tri’s hand, and all three boys walked out of the room.

It’s been five years since the day we left my family in that dining room. I didn’t disappear right away like I wanted to. I had to wait a few weeks in order to take care of business. I filed a police report on my missing husband— I didn’t wait two days—and three days later, his barely recognizable body was found in the woods. They said that the body was missing many of its appendages including his hands, nose, and penis. The police believe that because of the severity of the murder that it was a revenge attack from the traffickers that took me. I decided that it would best to have Trevor’s body cremated. It turned out that my sister wasn’t the only female he had on the side. She was devastated to find that out. I wasn’t the least bit surprised. I thought for a moment my sister would go to the police about what happened to Trevor, but I was right, she was too scared shitless.

Plus, by the time I was done with my family, no one would take them serious anyway. Without my monetary support, my father didn’t win the next election. I guess when I’m not paying the right people, no one really believed in his politics. I sold both houses seven days after putting them out. My realtor was kick ass. A year after they lost the house, they were completely bankrupt. The people father owed, had no problem coming for their money. It was a huge scandal when all the shady things my father was into went public. It seems those quiet days in the corner paid off for me. I was able to secretly drop off all the proof the media needed to convict my father on ten counts of embezzlement and other types of fraud. He’s now serving a twenty-five-year sentence in Texas State penitentiary.

Mother isn’t faring too well either. She tried to remarry after Daddy was sentenced and put in prison, but no luck. It seems no one wants to marry a divorcee whose husband has a criminal background. However, I did send her a letter reminding her of all the advice she gave me about marriage. I told her to make sure she was putting out, that’s probably her best bet in finding a man. Last time I checked, she was working a minimum wage job while living back home with her parents.

Monroe never made it to New York. She was so sure that she would be fine after I cut them off. Unfortunately, she was wrong. Trevor had promised her that he had a savings account set up just for her in case something ever happened to him. He lied. There was no money. Even his bank account was in the negative. The only money he had was his life insurance and pension—both went to me, because technically, I was still his wife when he died. For the first few years, Monroe bounced around from one wealthy boyfriend to another. Her good looks kept her afloat. Then two years ago, she was shot and killed by an angry wife that found her in bed with her husband. I didn’t go to her funeral.

Monroe and Trevor weren’t the only deaths since we returned from that hell. Two days before Alpha came to me, Benjamin Parks was found dead in his home. His murder is still unsolved, but they think it’s connected to his involvement with kidnapping and experimenting on women. It was never proven, but the allegations alone destroyed Vita Labs causing it to shut down. The other two deaths belonged to Kimberly and Toya King. Their deaths came right on the cusp of the return of their step-daughter and half-sister, Ashley King. Who had just recently returned home from a long vacation.

We have finally put our time in captivity behind us. All doors have been closed for now. We know that we aren’t always going to be safe. A year ago, I got a message from Asim telling me that our time was up. The government had finally got access to the list of breeders’ names. Thanks to Alpha’s clever planning, the government still believed that all super soldiers were killed in the fire that destroyed the facility. Only the bodies they found belonged to the missing staff members. Alpha knew that Dr. Strong wouldn’t risk reporting the staff missing out of fear of investigation. The super soldiers hid the bodies until they could disguise them in the fire. The only people the government was looking for were the twenty- six missing breeders. However, we aren’t worried. With my inheritance, I bought a large plot of land in the middle of nowhere Montana. We built our own little community. We live off the grid from the real world. We are self-sufficient and rely on no one. Even if by chance the government finds us out here, they will still have to get past our perimeters. If they can do that, well, they will have to deal with our Super Soldiers.

“Are you alright?” my husband, and father of my three and a half children asked.

Alpha and I weren’t really married. We didn’t want to risk leaving any records of us. But to us, and all the people around us, we were husband and wife.

I smiled as I turned to him. “I’m fine. I was just thinking about how happy I am.”

Alpha came over to the bed and helped me sit up. My large pregnant belly often times made it hard for me to move.

“Today is the day. Ashley will go into labor. Gamma is excited,” Alpha said with a smile.

Alpha and I were not the only ones to find love in the compound. Twenty-five soldiers and their mates live here with us. Not all of the Super Soldiers made it out of the compound. Apparently, Dr. Strong’s new serum wasn’t as perfect as he thought. Alpha said that some of them were too institutionalized and flawed. He couldn’t bring the others out into the real world. Half of the super soldiers had to be put down.

“I should get up, she will need me to watch Gavin and Gabrielle for her.” I slung the cover off my legs and tried to stand, but Alpha placed a hand to my shoulder to stop me.

“You should rest. Your little one will be here soon too.”

I refused to let Alpha tell me when I would go into labor. He always knew the exact moment it would happen. He also knew within hours when I was pregnant and what I would have. I wouldn’t let him tell me with the boys, but Adam slipped and told me with their sister.

“Why do I have a feeling it’s going to be today?”

Alpha laughed and placed a kiss on my lips.

“Rest, Morgan. I will bring your breakfast to you.” He went to stand, and I tugged his arm back to me.

“Wait.” I smiled mischievously. “If I’m going into labor soon, that means it will be a while before we get some alone time. I think we should skip the food and spend our time doing something else.”

Alpha bit his bottom lip, his eyes did that glazing thing that let me know he was communicating with his pack. I suddenly heard my front door open and then close.

“Did you just send the boys outside?” I asked him.

He smiled down at me. “I sent them next door to Beta’s and Jessica’s house. I plan on making you scream too loud for them to just hang outside.”

My stomach fluttered with excitement and possibly my mini me communicating with her father.

Alpha laughed. “She’s got us on a tight schedule.”

“Well, let’s make the best time of it.” I pulled him down to me, and before putting my lips to his, I told him, “I love you, Alpha!”

“I love you more, Morgan!”

We were allowed only three hours of alone time before our daughter Bisi came into the world.
