Conviction (Club Destiny #1) by Nicole Edwards (35)

“You look beautiful.” Deanna smiled; her sweet, chipper voice was no different from when she was in the office.

“Thank you. You look stunning yourself.” Sam replied, taking in the other woman. Deanna was wearing a floor length navy blue velvet gown that accentuated her beautiful blue eyes and was a perfect contrast to her gleaming gold hair.

“We did pretty well, don’t you think?” She asked as the two women stood near the entrance, greeting guests as they flowed in and out of the large convention center ballroom.

“I think so. Though, I’m not sure you or I actually did anything at all.” Sam smiled facetiously. “Veronica is a bulldog when it comes to these things.”

“That she is.” Deanna agreed.

“Did one of you seriously refer to me as a four legged animal?” The seductive voice came from behind them, a deep, sensual laugh that caused men’s heads to turn.

Sam turned to see the woman solely responsible for the successful XTX Christmas Party.

Veronica looked stunning in a red satin sheath dress that hugged every curve, her long black hair flowing like a curtain down her back. Sam had seen more than one man do a double take when she walked by.

“I’d say we all did a great job.” Veronica agreed as she gave Sam a quick hug, then turned to Deanna for the same.

“Well, we all know the credit belongs to you.” Deanna smiled her beautiful smile, her eyes searching the room.

“Where’s Tommy?” Sam asked, her eyes following the path that Deanna’s had.

“He’s somewhere around here. You know men, when they get together they like to venture off into a corner so they aren’t cornered into dancing with the one they brought.”

Sam laughed. The man she had come with apparently hadn’t gotten that memo. Logan had kept her on the dance floor for the first half hour after they arrived, only giving her a brief reprieve when Xavier had interrupted. The two men had disappeared somewhere, and Sam had jumped at the opportunity to take a break.

After their arrival, Logan had whispered some seductive words and promises for later, in between his greetings of their guests.

Sam had decided that he liked to see her blush, which he had been successful at numerous times.

Sam’s gaze searched the room, hoping to catch a glance of Logan somewhere, only to find her eyes landing on Alex McDermott, standing stone faced only a few feet away. He didn’t look happy, and his attention was on a woman on the dance floor.

Sam had seen the woman earlier, a beautiful, petite brunette wearing a shimmering silver gown, her hair upswept in some intricate style. They hadn’t been formally introduced yet, but Logan had pointed her out earlier in the evening. She was none other than the famous Ashleigh Thomas, Xavier’s granddaughter, and apparently the woman who got away as far as Alex was concerned.

Logan hadn’t elaborated much past that, but based on the way Alex trailed the other woman’s every move, Sam got the impression there was something between the two of them. Even Dylan Thomas, Ashleigh’s brother, and Sam’s other boss had made reference over the last month or so to Alex’s feelings toward his sister. Generally, they seemed to be said in order to get a rise out of Alex. For the most part, they worked.

“Mind if I steal this beautiful woman for a little while?” The deep, dark voice pierced the air, and caused Sam’s attention to turn toward the man who had just approached.

Logan stood behind her, devastatingly handsome in his tuxedo, the mischievous gleam in his eye making her insides tighten. Sam wasn’t sure how he could still manage to get to her the way he did, but it was unmistakable, when Logan was near, she felt him to the depths of her soul.

Sam took Logan’s outstretched hand and allowed him to once again lead her to the dance floor.

“Do you know how good you look tonight?” He asked when he pulled her up against him, his hand going to the small of her back, just above the back hem of her dress. She’d spent days searching for the one dress that would take his breath away and based on the way he had reacted when he first saw her, she’d succeeded.

The black backless slip dress had a plunging neckline and a thigh high slit on the side, allowing her room to move, while exposing her thigh. The way his eyes continued to dart down to the exposed skin made said skin tingle.

“You can tell me again.” Sam said sweetly, running her fingers into the hair that rested just atop his collar.

“I can tell you so many things.” Logan whispered in her ear. “Like how I plan to strip you out of that dress just as soon as I can and ravage that amazing body.”

“Promises, promises.” Sam teased, her body tightening in all the right places. His voice sent chills straight through her. And despite the fact that she knew he kept good on his promises, Sam still anticipated every move he made. Since the night he proposed, the two of them had spent every waking moment with one another, aside from going to work.

He’d insisted that she move in with him, and though reluctant at first, Sam hadn’t been able to tell him no. Having been worried that she wouldn’t be able to live with another person, since she’d lived most of her life alone, except for with her parents, Sam had been pleasantly surprised at how easy their lives had become.

The day to day routine was the same, only she was able to spend every night in his arms, and wake up every day to his sweet kiss. Expecting some of the newness to wear off, they’d both been surprised at how much they still wanted one another.

“How’s Alex doing?” Sam asked as she twirled around, her eyes landing on Alex who was still standing against the wall, his gaze intent as he followed Ashleigh Thomas around the room.

“He’s got his work cut out for him, that’s for sure.” Logan said, turning his attention to the other man. “Now that Ashleigh’s back, I don’t think he knows what to do with himself.”

“Does he plan on letting her know how he feels?” Sam asked, turning back to Logan.

“With Alex, I don’t know. He’s had a hard on for that girl for as long as I can remember. Since she’s ten years younger, he seems to have an issue with the age difference.”

“Is that right?” Sam laughed. “I happen to like older men.”

Logan pulled her up against him in a possessive embrace. “You mean you happen to like an older man.”

“True. There is only one man for me, Logan McCoy.”

“Damn right.” He growled. “I wish we were anywhere but here right now. I’d make you strip out of that dress while I ravage you with my tongue.”

Sam sighed, her stomach muscles clenching. With Logan, he never ceased to share his every thought. Nor did he ever not affect her on some primal level.

God she loved this man.

~*~*~

Logan held Sam closer, breathing in her intoxicating scent.

She was the most beautiful woman in the entire room, and he wasn’t lying when he told her what he wanted to do to her.

Had they not been at a company function, he wouldn’t be above sneaking to some secluded area and stripping her naked just to see what she would do.

In the past few weeks, ever since she had finally given in to her desires, Sam had become wild. And he loved every fucking minute of it.

Since Luke was still AWOL, only keeping in touch by text every few days, Logan had been busy trying to keep her sated. Even Cole was missing in action. But, Logan was pretty sure they weren’t together, though he wasn’t sure why not.

Since the night at Luke’s house, both men had kept to themselves. Logan figured what happened that night had taken them all by surprise, yet he hadn’t realized his brother wasn’t able to come to terms with it.

Then of course, there was Ashleigh Thomas, the woman whose sole presence was pure torture for Alex. She’d come back to Dallas just a few weeks ago, and since that day, Alex hadn’t been the same. He’d shown up at Club Destiny once or twice, but not for his weekly rendezvous. No, he seemed to have distanced himself from every woman he had ever known. Though he didn’t appear to have the guts to go after the one he wanted.

Logan would be happy to tell him exactly what he should do, but he knew it wouldn’t matter. And it wasn’t his business anyway.

Sam leaned in closer, her teeth nipping at his ear and his cock stirred. “Be careful what you wish for.” He warned her. Company function or not, Logan didn’t give a damn about where they were. He was quite certain he could find them a little bit of privacy.

“Or what?” She asked as she sucked his earlobe into her mouth, her breath warm on his ear.

“Or I’ll give you something to put in that mouth.” Logan whispered, and he felt her answering shiver.

“Would it help if you knew I wasn’t wearing anything beneath this dress?” She asked, her seductive tone shooting straight to his groin, eliciting a growl from deep in his chest.

With the number of couples dancing around them, the music filling the ballroom, Logan was pretty sure no one could hear them, but he was still surprised by her forwardness. “Are you trying to tempt me?”

Logan leaned back so he could look in her eyes; the bright green sparkled in the lights, her smile just as bright.

Despite all of the ups and downs they’d been through over the months, Sam needing time to come to terms with what she wanted, Logan was still surprised at how much she had come out of her shell.

No more was the demure, innocent woman he had come to know. She was a wildcat, a force to be reckoned with, and he loved that about her.

He knew Luke’s absence bothered her, and not just because he fulfilled a need she hadn’t realized she possessed. Still, she was open about her sexuality, and after she made the transition to CISS, he’d seen a side of her that he’d been missing.

She had been holding back on him, though she wouldn’t admit it. The woman who had stolen his heart was so much more than he ever expected and since the day she had married him, Logan had seen a side of her that he hadn’t known existed.

She was temptation personified, a woman who completed him like no other. She was his soul mate, the one and only woman who would ever own him unconditionally.

“I’m always trying to tempt you.” She whispered. “I think you should find us that secluded area, Mr. McCoy.”

“Be careful what you wish for, Mrs. McCoy.” He warned her, holding her tightly against him.

Taking her hand in his, Logan disregarded everyone else in the room and made a beeline for the exit. Pulling her close beside him, he leaned down to whisper in her ear, “You remember your safe word, baby?”
