Dodge, Bounty Hunters Book Three: Diamonds aren't the only things women want - sometimes they want revenge. by PJ Fiala (16)

You might be sleeping in the SUV

So, she'd be playing the happy couple with Dodge. Well damn. She wasn't mad, Ford had a solid plan, it was just she...hell she didn't know what was nagging her.

And, what was that "For Adam" comment? Who was Adam? Neither of them explained and she didn't want to seem nosy and ask, but she wondered just the same.

Only an hour or so to go and she had to admit, sitting next to Ford was nice and all, but not as nice as sitting next to Dodge. He filled that space up differently and she'd enjoyed brushing arms with him.

The Beast's phone rang and Dodge answered it through the computer so they could all hear. "Hello."

Gaige answered. "Hi everyone, I've got Lincoln and Axel here with me and they've been able to track down two of the men that were noes on Ian O'Malley's list."

Lincoln spoke up first. "The first person we found was a scrawny little runt named, Boyd Gorey. Boyd got nervous real fast when we asked about his meeting with Mangus and what he'd be able to tell us. He's not over 5 feet, 4 inches tall and my guess is he isn't big enough to be on Mangus' team. He insisted he didn't know who we were talking about and damned near pissed his pants when Axel leaned down real close and told him we'd be following him around unless he talked."

Axel could be heard in the background chuckling. With that scar running down the right side of his face, he knew just how to form his lips to make himself look positively scary.

"Anyway," Axel continued. "What we were able to weasel out of the little runt is they are looking for men to run loads between various locations down south and back to Lynyrd Station. We believe you'll be finding some interesting things down there in the Ozarks."

Dodge spoke next. "Did he happen to say how often he'd be running back and forth?"

Lincoln answered his friend. "Weekly."

Dodge nodded and sat back in his seat. "What about the other guy?"

"Right, David Boyce." Lincoln responded. "David met with a fatal car accident last week. He was out of town on a deserted road and ran down into a gully. DOA."

Dodge sat forward again. "Was there anything suspicious about the accident?"

"A lot. Rory, a good friend and a detective with Lynard Station PD, is looking into it for us, but I thought you might have some better connections with some of your contacts. Anyone you can call who might be able to speed up the info flow from the state?"

Dodge ran his hand along his jaw. "Yeah. I'll give Bobby a call tonight. Send me what you have please."

"You got it."

Gaige spoke again. "You all are only about fifteen minutes out now, so we'll sign off. Hawk and I are going back out first thing in the morning to check out the entrance area. We believe he found it, we just can't figure out how to open it. Lincoln and Axel have two more noes to find tomorrow so we'll all report our findings once we have something."

Josh spoke up, "Sounds good. Once we check into the hotel, we’ll check in one last time for tonight. Talk to you later."

Dodge reached forward and disconnected the call. His cell phone chimed then and he opened his text and read. She couldn't see the words he was reading, only the glow from his phone. He turned in his seat and looked at Ford. "I think Jared should try hacking into the records on this. For some reason, there's a slowdown of information coming through. I wonder if Mangus hired someone at the state level to hide information or severely slow it down."

"I'll text him. He can get into anything."

Her curiosity was piqued. "Who's Jared?"

Ford responded as he texted. "He's a friend of ours from the Army. He's a conspiracy theorist and fantastic information gatherer. He's got a data base that would impress the FBI and he manages to get intel that we'd never dream he could get."

She looked into the rearview to see Josh looking back at her. He smiled, which he didn't do often. "I think this is going to be a great partnership."

Dodge turned to Josh. "You like under the radar intel?"

"I like money. We get money when we successfully finish our missions. We stay aboveboard as much as we can, but bottom line is... we get our missions done to our clients' satisfaction. We don't break laws to do it, but how we gather our information isn't on the table."

Wyatt laughed next to her and it was impossible not to giggle. She liked the money, too. It made her feel powerful and free. She was supporting herself, by doing something she loved. She wasn't cut out for anything else in the civilian world. There might come a day, but she was saving money in wads, and soon she'd have enough that she could live on her investment accounts forever. She'd found a great financial guy who managed her money and he knew her goals. To amass enough money that if she was injured and couldn't work ever again, she'd be set for life. She was almost there. This job promised to help her realize that goal. Their customer on this job was a man whose daughter had been killed by one of the Santarinos. It worked out well that he was a billionaire in France and was paying them handsomely for this job. Bonus that she also wanted to stop Mangus to avenge her brother. When Gaige had told their client that piece of information the deal was done. He loved that they had a personal stake in this game. And after expenses they'd all earn a bit over a million dollars. Double bonus.

Josh slowed the SUV and pulled into a hotel parking lot. "Wyatt, run in and see if they have three rooms."

"Yep." Wyatt jumped out and she looked at Josh in the mirror again her brows furrowed.

He looked away without a word. She always stayed with him when they were on the road. With five of them on this mission that would mean she'd have her own room, which she didn't like mostly because it isolated her from the guys. She didn't like the special treatment, and she didn't like that she'd be considered separate from them.

Ford's phone chimed and all he said was, "Jared's on it."

Dodge nodded in the front seat and she heard a bit of a chuckle from him.

Wyatt came back out to the SUV, "We're in."

He walked to the back and Josh pushed the button on the dashboard to open the hatch. She slid out of Wyatt's open door and Dodge stepped out of the vehicle at the same time. She bumped into him, mumbled, "Sorry." Then quickly stepped to the back of the SUV to get her bag. The four of them walked into the hotel while Josh pulled into the parking lot and parked. She hovered in the lobby while Wyatt checked in three rooms for them. Ford and Dodge stood a few steps away, both of them looking badass. They were such a contrast. Ford was dark. Coal black hair and eyes darker than hers and Josh's. They looked like they were bottomless holes. Dodge on the other hand had sandy blond hair, worn short and green eyes that looked like green grass in the summer. Both were tall and broad and anybody would be totally stupid to try and piss one of them off. As bounty hunters she bet they always got their bounties.

Josh walked in and bumped her on purpose with his hip. "We can sleep comfortable tonight, Jax. Stretch out and enjoy the rest, we don't know where we'll be sleeping tomorrow. I'll bunk with Wyatt and the bounty hunters can room together. We'll all have space to stretch out and relax, tomorrow is going to be a long day. Kingsdale is 45 miles away and it doesn't look like there's much there. Depending on what time we get done, we may be pulling into some fleabag motel if that town or one nearby has one. We can't come back here...policy, right?"

"Yeah. I just don't want to be treated differently. You know."

"I do. You're not. Enjoy it, tomorrow you might be sleeping in the SUV. I’ll call in and let Gaige know we’re here."
