Happy Ever Afterlife Part 1 (Afterlife saga Book 9) by Stephanie Hudson (28)

27

It was four days later when Draven made good on his promise, surprising me that it took him that long. Not that I was impatient, but just that usually when Draven said he was going to do something, it was normally as soon as Supernaturally possible.

However, during this time Draven managed to keep me plenty busy as it seemed he had got it into his head to take me sight-seeing every one of those four days.

We went to other castles, drove along the stunning coast with its dramatic cliffs and spectacular views. We also visited cute picturesque towns, went hiking, at which Draven found great amusement as it clearly wasn’t my forte. But one of the best trips out was when Draven drove us to Edinburgh for the day, which took a few hours to get there.

We went in Edinburgh castle where Draven would protect me against the flood of tourists and at the same time giving me a personal lesson on its history but only the fun stuff that I wasn’t sure if many people knew. Like how it was built on an extinct volcano and that Castle Rock had actually been inhabited for around 2865 years, although Draven assured me it could have been more.

He also told me how St Margaret’s Chapel was one of the oldest surviving buildings in Scotland and how the Scottish crown jewels were lost in the castle for over 100 years. I laughed when he told me this, saying,

“I am surprised that hasn’t happened to you yet, considering how old you are… I am not sure I would even remember my first name after all that time, let alone where I put my crown,” I teased making him roll his eyes at me.

“What, it’s not like it gets used very often, maybe other people will forget it as well,” I said in jest. However, instead of the laughed reply I was expecting, Draven just pulled me back against him when we were waiting in a queue for a drink. Then, as he wrapped an arm around my belly, he whispered a promise in my ear,

“Then I will have to start calling you this in bed just before I come inside this hot little body I own.”  Then as if to prove his sexual point, he lowered his hand so that his fingers were just skimming the edge of my waistband, toying with the lace of my panties.

“Catherine,” he hummed in my ear and I nearly choked, coughing back a gasp as the lady behind the food stall shouted,

“Next!”

Now this made Draven laugh.

I had to admit that over the past few weeks, I couldn’t remember a happier time. I don’t think I had laughed, giggled, chuckled, smiled and teased so much in my life. Of course, the sex had to get mentioned which, with Draven, was always amazing no matter what he did to me. But seeing as our sex life had never been in question before, then this time, it was all about the smiles.

Because if there was one thing in our relationship that had always been lacking, it was spending quality time together, just being a couple. Going out on dates, whether it be to a restaurant, or a simple walk in a park somewhere. Hell, our first meal out together was after my crazy serial killing ex had stood me up, so it was kind of tainted because well, we weren’t exactly together then…oh and you know, like I said, the ‘killer ex’ thing.

But now, just getting the chance to do all the usual stuff, even if that just included the simple things like our picnic, it didn’t matter because for the first time, I was actually starting to feel like…

Well, like Draven’s wife.

And right now, as he walked me into our bedroom with his hands covering both of my eyes, it just felt like another one of those times.

“You ready?” Draven asked me and the excitement in his tone was an endearing sound.

“I was ready the second you took my hand in the library,” I told him, because if we weren’t out at the crack of dawn and only getting back when it was dark, then this was where we spent most of our time. Something about Draven having work done and ceilings restored in other parts of the house.

I had even teased him, asking why he couldn’t just fix it himself, you know, with his mumbo jumbo superpowers. To which he hadn’t looked overly impressed with my description, as I got another raised brow directed my way and a stern,

“Keira.” Which basically said it all. Okay so it didn’t, which is why I asked him again, this time rewording my sentence to say,

“Oh, mighty God of mine, why not just grace us with your strength and otherworldly talents and fix the damn ceiling yourself?” Which finally had him laughing.

His answer had been a simple one,

“Because I am no artist.”

And as it turned out he was right, his drawing skills sucked. I know this because for some reason I got it into my head that I needed proof of this. So that night at dinner, I had Mack find me a pencil and paper, and forced Draven to draw random things. Needless to say, that after drawing a bird that looked more like a plane with eyes, a beak and only one leg, I knew it was a lost cause.

He was right, he sucked, as in big time and I don’t know why but this made me ridiculously happy. He asked me why and I told him,

“Because you’re annoyingly good at everything! Hell, I teased you the other day about knitting for a hobby, but I bet if you took it up, you would be whipping up baby blankets by the dozen, so yes, I am happy to see you were right…sorry baby, but you can’t draw for shit.” I said after reaching over and kissing his cheek as he chuckled at my funny comment.

And to prove this statement I looked down to see the last thing I had asked him to draw. I stared at what clearly looked like a penis and snatched it from under his palm. Then I held it up in front of him and said,

“Really Draven? This is your banana?” Then I pointed to the bulbous head he had drawn at one end and he replied with deadpan seriousness, informing me,

“That’s the bananus.” At this I snorted a laugh and couldn’t stop myself from blurting out,

“Sounds more like you just gave a banana an asshole to me!” To which he threw his head back and burst out laughing and this made even more so, when we turned to see Mack had come in the room the second I had said it.

He held up his hands and said,

“Ah dinnae want te know.” Then swiftly made his exit. I turned back round to Draven with a look of horror and said,

“Please don’t tell me he just got the wrong idea and now thinks I want to introduce fruit into our sex life?” Now this had Draven roaring with laughter and yes, even to the point where he had to wipe the tears from his eyes.

Something he had to do again when he saw my face drop in utter shame, when I woke next morning to the sight of a fruit bowl sitting at the end of the bed.

“Draven, you little shit!” I had shouted before throwing an apple at him, making him catch it, bite it in that sexy way, before throwing the apple aside and stalking towards me.

That morning sex tasted like apple and there wasn’t a banana in sight…well,

There was Draven’s.

But getting back to my surprise and the reason he had found me with my nose in a book in the library.

“Let me see!” I said excitedly reaching up to pull his hands from my eyes. Then once he did I squealed with delight.

“It’s a TV at the bottom of our bed!”

“Well, unfortunately I had to get rid of the fruit to put it there, I hope that’s okay…Oww,” he moaned, teasingly rubbing his arm after I had playfully hit him.

“So, didn’t fancy it in the drawing room then, yea?” I asked with a grin.

“Oh, there is one in there too,” he said, and I beamed up at him before confirming this was true and getting a little high pitched at the end.

“There is?!” He nodded down at me giving me a soft smile.

“Of course, there is, you had me at ‘I want’ remember.” Hearing this sweet reply made me throw my arms up, reaching his neck so that I could pull him down for a kiss. Then once I had finished showing him how thankful I was, I decided to tell him.

“You’re too good to me, thank you honey,” I said tenderly over his lips, making him groan against me.

“So, if we have one downstairs, why one for the bedroom as well?” I asked turning back to the ultrathin and no doubt mega expensive TV that was now at the end of our bed.

“Well, you mentioned that if I wanted to watch it with you curled into me naked, then I would have to get one for here as well…so this one is actually more for me,” he said with a wink making me giggle.

“I also have another surprise for you,” he told me and then took my hand, led me to the bed and told me to get comfortable. So, I did as I was told, kicking off my slippers and arranging the pillows so that they would be comfortable. I then watched as Draven walked to the door, opened it and said,

“Alright Mack, you can come in now.” I frowned wondering what he was up to this time and I had to bite my tongue against warning him that it had better not involve fruit. Thankfully, it didn’t but it did involve food and not a bit of it healthy.

Draven had obviously taken my words about getting a TV very seriously, as Mack walked in our room pushing a trolley that looked as if he had first robbed it from a Cinema. It had everything on there, from bowls of popcorn, nachos, striped bags of sweets and a wide array of chocolate bars, including the legendary Cadbury’s Crunchie bar. I nearly wept with joy.

Of course, I thought nothing could top this, that was until Draven produced something hidden under his jacket on the chair. When he brought it closer this time I squealed before launching myself at him. He caught me as I jumped off the bed, wrapping my legs around his waist and peppering him with kisses.

“I love you!” I shouted making Mack chuckle as I threw the DVD over my shoulder so that it would land on the bed. Then Mack left the room muttering something about being easily pleased, which was all in good humour, but neither of us were really listening. Not as soon as my little kisses had turned into very intimate kisses, that required my hands either side of Draven’s face, so I could tilt his head and deepen the kiss.

He didn’t need to ask me if I was pleased because I showed him and this time doing so in an even more intimate way…one that still required my mouth.

Oh yeah, he got that I was happy pretty quickly and the reason why, because there now sat on the bed waiting for us, was my second favourite love story of all time.

The love story of Jane Eyre.

And my first favourite love story…

But of course,

It was our own.
