Pursuit: A Bad Boy Romance by Cristal Pierre (91)

Chapter Four

“Hello Lindsey,” said the man.

Lindsey was unable to move; she couldn’t even talk. All she could do was stand still enough that she wouldn’t pass out onto the floor.

He smiled at her, a seductive and disarming smile, “my name is Jayden. Thank you for saving my life last night.”

“Huh,” said Lindsey, still unable to create full sentences.

She knew he was telling the truth. Something inside of her had clicked as soon as she had touched him the night before. All she had to do was look into his eyes to know he was true and honest.

“You shouldn’t be standing, you’ll rip your sutures,” she finally said to him.

He looked down at the sutures and smiled, “okay.” He sat on the floor, waiting for her to speak again.

Like a switch going off in her head, she realized how uncomfortable he must be naked. She went to the laundry room off the kitchen and pulled down a button up flannel of her fathers and a pair of his jeans.

“Um, here,” she said awkwardly to him, trying her best not to look at his massive manhood.

“Sure,” he said smiling and rising to put the clothing on.

She turned back to him when he was done, “I’m sorry, but who are you? Why did you save me last night? What are you? I need some answers dammit!”

She was breathing hard; everything was spinning as she sat down.

“Okay,” said Jayden.

Looking up and glaring at him, she said, “do you even speak English? I can’t get more than one word out of you!”

Jayden raised an eyebrow to her but continued to smile. He moved so he was standing in front of her where she was sitting. Then he sat on the floor in front of her so that their eyes were level.

“My English is perfectly fine actually. I speak it along with four other languages. My pack likes to move around a lot so we all pick up different languages. It’s been my experience, that when someone finds out that werewolves are real, a few minutes of silence is more comforting than trying to force the information on them.”

Lindsey sat there like a fool with her mouth opened. A werewolf?

“If I know my lore, you guys only change at night, when I left this morning you were not a human, I would have noticed,” she said, her eyes drifting to where the jeans were bulging out.

He smiled at her once more, “you are very smart. My kind can only change, or shift, when we have the strength to do so. This morning, I did not have the strength to shift but for us to be in our animal form during the day is unnatural. While we can control what state we are in with the moon out, we cannot become our animal selves during the day. When I shifted this morning, it was very slow and painful. Like your body trying to heal itself but you have no more energy to do so. Does this make sense Lindsey?”

The way her name rolled off his full lips made her body temperature rise instantly. She nodded her head.

“Lindsey?” He said, looking at her more intently now than he had before, “you saved my life. It is the code of my pack and my honor that I will be loyal to you forever now.”

Her head snapped up, “what?”

He looked at her with confusion, “what’s wrong?”

“Listen, I don’t want your loyalty or protection or whatever okay? I helped you because you saved my life. You saved me from being raped,” she said, her head hung down.

Jayden slowly rose up to his knees and took her face in his hand; the touch sent a flame of desire through Lindsey that she had never felt before.

“Lindsey, you were bait,” said Jayden softly.

“What?” She asked him, stunned.

“My pack received word a few months ago from a friend that Dr. Beyer was trying to capture a werewolf. While we aren’t sure how he found out about us, we knew the threat was real. The man who contacted us had been a friend for many years. Dr. Beyer is a sick and sadistic man. He knew that I was watching him, but he always had more men with him then I could safely take down with him. The bastard knew that I wouldn’t let you get hurt.”

She looked at him in shock, “why? Why me? Why not Amy or Kelly?”

For the first time, Jayden looked nervous, “because of the friend who told us of Dr. Beyer and his dangerous experiments. I promised him I would protect you if Dr. Beyer got to him, and he did.”

It took her several minutes to make the connection. When she did, she looked at him in awe, “no.”

He nodded his head, ‘yes’.

“You mean; you mean my father was killed by the doctor because he helped you?” Asked Lindsey, tears had begun to fall.

“Your father was a great man. You need to know that he loved you; he loved you so much that you have had a wolf guarding you your entire life. He loved you so much; he vowed to protect you, to keep you safe by never contacting you. Your boss isn’t the first man to hunt us. Over the years, your father protected us from men like him. Now I am honored to protect you, I am bound to you for saving my life,” he finished softly.

She was speechless. The tears were running down her face now. Lindsey spent her whole life resenting her father. He had never been there for her, and now she was finding out that he was protecting her. It was just too much.

“Lindsey?” Said Jayden, looking at her with concern.

She looked up to him and saw the sadness in his eyes.

“You knew my father?” She asked him, her voice hoarse and quiet.

Jayden smiled softly, “I did. He was a wonderful and smart man. He wasn’t without fault, though, without you in his life he enjoyed drinking and more often than not, he would end up in a bar fight. He was always ready to protect others though.”

She smiled at him, but it was a sad smile. She couldn’t imagine living alone all those years without your family. Loving them and knowing that they hated and resented you. Lindsey was filled with regret.

“Don’t cry darling,” said Jayden as he wiped away a tear from her face.

“He was a good man, he would be proud of what you did last night,” said Jayden.

“Thank you. Thank you for telling me all of this. I wish I knew the man he was, but I am happy that he was doing something good,” she said to him.

“You know, I heard stories of your beauty, but I never imagined you would be this amazing,” said Jayden, a blush passing over his face.

She raised an eyebrow at him, “what do you mean ‘stories’?”

He blushed again, “as I said, you were always protected. When you went to college, the stories started to come in from those who would watch over you. Stories about your golden hair and enticing hazel eyes and everything else,” he said looking at her.

His eyes lingered on her full breasts. Her mother was short, and so was Lindsey at only five foot three. She made up for it though in her perfect build. She had an athletic build from years of hiking. Her skin was tanned year round because of her father’s Spanish heritage. As she watched his eyes linger on her chest, she started to blush. She bit her lip looking at him; he was delicious looking.

“Well, I suppose if I have to be bound to someone, I am happy it’s you,” she said with a smile.

The look of pure joy on his face made her laugh. She rose from the chair and went to the sink, she needed a stiff drink. She felt his eyes watching her, just like the doctors did. This time though, it didn’t bother her. This time, it awoke a dormant animal need inside of her. She wanted Jayden, and she wanted him now.
